To have refused to pay extra at the hairdresser?

Went to hairdresser today. Chatted about what I wanted with the hairdresser and then got taken to the sink by an assistant who shampoo'd my hair twice and then conditioner before taking me back to my seat with the hairdresser.

The hairdresser was combing my hair and said "ooohhh it smells lovely, Sarah did you use a treatment?" And Sarah replied that she did...

Next thing I know, I'm being charged £12.50 for a 'treatment' that I didn't ask for and that I didn't want. In fact, I'm not even convinced I had it at all!

WIBU to refuse to pay for it? The hairdresser made out that I was!

YANBU!

Gerbil17 · 21/12/2017 18:27

No yanbu. Its not right to add things on without asking if youre willing to pay for ir anyway!

Fellia · 21/12/2017 18:28

Ugh I’ve had this before. I just paid but really wish I hadn’t! YANBU

Regularsizedrudy · 21/12/2017 18:29

This has happened to me before but I’ve been to cowardly to say anything! Yanbu!

19lottie82 · 21/12/2017 18:29

YANBU what did they say when you refused?

Of course YANBU. You never asked for it. Why should you pay for it.
I don't think you'll get anyone saying YABU.

NickMyLipple · 21/12/2017 18:35

She said "we always charge for a treatment" and I looked at her and said that I didn't ask for it and I didn't know I had even had it - as I said, I'm not convinced she even did a treatment.

What even is a treatment anyway?!

My hairdresser was running over with a client when my dye was on. She said to me I'm running behind are you OK to sit with a treatment on for 15 minutes. I said yes. She still didn't charge me! Yanbu to refuse to pay when you didn't ask for it!

Wishingandwaiting · 21/12/2017 18:37

Same happened to me

Only it was £20!

rookiemere · 21/12/2017 18:39

YANBU.

When they offer conditioner I'm always very careful to check that it's standard conditioner and not some sort of a treatment. Apart from anything else, I find the hair washing chairs ridiculously uncomfortable so I'd not want to prolong my time in it.

Good for you for refusing to pay for it. Absolute scam.

DownTheChimney · 21/12/2017 18:41

The only treatment you had was the cheeky fucker treatment Grin

MrsFogi · 21/12/2017 18:43

YANBU you didn't get asked if you wanted it or told how much it was. I hate this trend of offering "treatments" that as far as I can see are no better than a second conditioner for the cost of buying an entire bottle.

FullOfXmasCheerOfCourse · 21/12/2017 18:51

YANBU, they should make it quite clear that they are offering a treatment that you will have to pay for. I wash my hair and dry it before I go and then turn down the offer to wash my hair first.

DailyMailReadersAreThick · 21/12/2017 18:52

YANBU and good for you for refusing. You may be the only AIBU OP that isn't a pushover. Grin

GrrrHotdogs · 21/12/2017 18:54

YWNBU (obviously)

Anyone that pays for this type of thing without saying anything is unreasonable and a pushover.

Sounds like a nice little extra for them. YWNBU. You’d think they would value their clients instead of alienating them. How dare they?

Viviennemary · 21/12/2017 18:57

£12.50. Shock. Yes you were right to refused. And you should report them to Trading Standards. That's bad practice.

VivaLeBeaver · 21/12/2017 18:57

Yanbu. Hairdresser did this to my 16yo dd who id left with what I thought was the right money. She was too scared to ask why it was £10 more than normal and thankfully had money on her debit card. But she had to go without lunch. Shitty thing to do to a kid.

Namechangetempissue · 21/12/2017 18:58

When I have a treatment at the salon I use, I get a short head massage and it is left on for 15mins or so. It isn't just a more expensive conditioner! YWNBU to complain, they should have asked if you wanted it done.

pictish · 21/12/2017 19:00

Yanbu and they can fuck right off.

RoseWhiteTips · 21/12/2017 19:01

As a pp said, report them to Trading Standards. That’ll sort them out.

Fluffyears · 21/12/2017 19:01

They asked me if I wanted a deep conditioner then tried to charge me. I refused as they had offered it but not told me it was an extra cost I thought it was complimentary. It’s a scam, like when they sell you overpriced products to make your hair nice. It always look nice when a professional blow dries and styles it, it’ll never sit the same for you.

expatinscotland · 21/12/2017 19:02

This is another reason I don't use salons. They charge too much and then scam you, too. No idea how they stay in business. YANBU. Good on you for refusing and I'd report them to Trading Standards, yes. They probably plonked on some Tres Semme from a huge bottle. Your salon is a CF.
