Sorry if there's already a thread on this.

I saw they've been released today, and went to have a look. I think they both look lovely! They surprised me a bit though, as they're a bit more intimate than other royal engagement ones.

Disclaimer: I'm a raging royalist Grin

I think she’s standing there in a £50000 dress and there’s people going hungry tonight-other than that yeah they look nice

RestingGrinchFace · 21/12/2017 20:55

I like the one where they are sitting but the other two look quite awkward-they look unsuccessfully posed to look unposed. Not that they necessarily are posed-sometimes photographers just pick very awkward angles.

Ragusa · 21/12/2017 21:02

@SouthySa raah! Not just me who's a miserable grinch then :) it makes me sick to think of people with so much and others with nothing. And to pose for photos showing off your privilege: ugh. Just, you know, do it quietly. Get married at Slough registry office. Go for a couple of nights in a bnb. And donate the money saved to St Mungos or something.

Introvertpants · 21/12/2017 21:03

I thought they looked cheesy, fake and a bit American Xmas card like the episode in friends with the couple's Xmas card.

BigChocFrenzy · 21/12/2017 21:04

They look very happy together
Lovely photos
As an actress, she'll know exactly how to pose professionally, but I don't think that makes anything look fake.

Good luck to 'em both Flowers

MrsAJ27 · 21/12/2017 21:07

I think they look lovely together ❤

FreeNiki · 21/12/2017 21:12

Couldn't care less

user1468353179 · 21/12/2017 21:13

I was shocked that her dress cost 50k+. They have so much money.

Fekko · 21/12/2017 21:15

No way! How, just how? I thought that Ivanka trumps oven ready turkey dress hit a new height in ostentatious frocky-horror.

TheKop · 21/12/2017 21:15

Hmmm, the photos look very ‘American’ to me - very posed and not believable.

lizzieoak · 21/12/2017 21:17

Jeffy, perhaps they meant its chemically straightened. When she was younger she had the kind of curly-kinky hair you’d expect on someone w a black mum.

I wish women wouldn’t do that - why is it so awful to have curly hair? I think the way people’s hair is naturally usually looks best.

Babababababybel23 · 21/12/2017 21:22

Obviously the pictures will be nice. They are rich. It's hardly gonna be a picture taken sitting on a park bench Grin

Nanny0gg · 21/12/2017 21:22

Too Hollywood iyswim.

Hope they'll be as happy as they look though.

BalloonSlayer · 21/12/2017 21:22

The one at the bottom of the BBC article isn't Charles and Diana's engagement photo - it's just one taken on the TV interview day.

This and this were official engagement photos - much more relaxed and happy looking I think. I'd go as far as to say that Diana looks pretty smug in the blue one.

I remember well that the one where Diana is in white had Charles standing on a box to make him taller than her(they were actually the same height) - this was because it was to go on a stamp and there had to be space for the Queen's head.

JeffyJeffington · 21/12/2017 21:24

Ok well I was asking as I have mixed race hair which I’ve had in a variety of styles throughout my life- I currently leave it curly as it can’t be arsed with straightening- but frankly how is relaxing your hair more fake than straightening with straighteners or wearing extensions Hmm

EdithWeston · 21/12/2017 21:25

I don't like the heads together one, as it looks clunky and her eyes are closed. Nor the "perfume ad" one as it looks stiff. Especially when compared to the naturalness/intimacy of the Cambridges engagement pix.

The one where they are sitting is nice though.

(But, OP, I think YABU as there was already a thread about this outside the Royal Family, and I don't think we need more outside the actual topI'd)

shhhfastasleep · 21/12/2017 21:27

There's a big debate about whether black or mixed race women should continue to straighten their hair to conform to the ideal which is contrary to natural style. Michelle Obama has recently started wearing her hair in a natural style that she "couldn't " have as First Lady.
I hope if they have a daughter they will go with a more natural style.

lizzieoak · 21/12/2017 21:30

Jeffy, it’s all odd to me. I’m white w somewhat curly hair, which I never straighten (I’ve had it done a couple of times out of curiosity when getting my hair cut).

I can’t be arsed, I think it’s bad for your hair, and it seems sneakily anti-some kinds of beauty to me. If you have curly hair and don’t straighten it it’s seen as unkempt and unprofessional etc.

Photos of her when she was younger she had great hair and now it’s all slick and tamed. I like my just fell out of bed French don’t give a damn hair :)

As for the photos, the body language is a bit odd (as in the interview). She’s hanging on him, plucking at him and he’s barely returning it.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 21/12/2017 21:30

The photos look lovely & if she/him want to spend their own money on couture clothing then that's fine by me.
However I they they've made a bit of a faux pas with the dress, as the cost of it will rankle with many folk considering the hard economic times we live in.
I'm surprised they weren't advised not to use the dress in the photos or at least have 'borrowed it'.
I bet H&M got a bit of a telling off from her Maj.
Hope Meghan remembers the under £10 rule for family Christmas presents. A massive block of Cadburys Dairy Milk will go down well with the GMIL Smile

JeffyJeffington · 21/12/2017 21:31

a few sweeping assumptions there! I like choice and variety in the way I do my hair....

Fekko · 21/12/2017 21:33

I think Kate hit the right note wearing reiss clothes.

JeffyJeffington · 21/12/2017 21:33

Sorry a few sweeping assumptions in this post There's a big debate about whether black or mixed race women should continue to straighten their hair to conform to the ideal which is contrary to natural style

lizzieoak · 21/12/2017 21:35

For what it’s worth, I also think curly perms tend to look wrong on women w naturally straight hair. Got my judgy pants on today!

RoseWhiteTips · 21/12/2017 21:37

I think I am the hair “mentioner”. Lol
To clarify, her hair is naturally curly - as teenage photographs show - so why not leave it natural. She clearly straightens it and straightened hair never looks good on any one, in my view.

JeffyJeffington · 21/12/2017 21:37

Hopefully you guys all go completely au naturel then....no make up, no hair removal....exactly as god made you Hmm
