To think Poundland ad is not “genius” and is actually a bit I appropriate?

Most comments on Facebook are proclaiming it “genius.” I don’t think a sexual innuendo is that genius TBF.

Plus why is it a woman lying on her back with a t shirt saying “power” and a man standing over her dominating her. They could have at least chosen another sexual innuendo.

Also difficult to explain to kids.

Or have I got the wrong end of the stick?

Yuck. Inappropriate to use toys for sexual innuendo to depict a porn scene.

OK it's it's 'just' an advert but it's all part of the big picture of the incessant pornification of women.

MissionItsPossible · 21/12/2017 15:46

Why would anybody be trying to explain this to kids!? Hmm

Morphene · 21/12/2017 15:46

Its a good job children don't have access to the internet when it actively pushes sexist images all the time isn't it? Otherwise we might be in for yet another decade of normalized sexual harassment and rape for our daughters....

GetAwayFromHer · 21/12/2017 15:47

It's not funny. I think I'd judge anyone who thought it was.

BlazingPaddles · 21/12/2017 15:47

I think it's rank. The kind of oh so hilarious thing that's best left in the 1990s.

BrownLiverSpot · 21/12/2017 15:48

Hadn't seen that advert yet, is it a real one? I don't like it, I find it tasteless and not funny.

Maudlinmaud · 21/12/2017 15:49

For those who find it funny, can you explain why? Is it because a childrens toy has been used in an inappropriate manner?

IrkThePurist · 21/12/2017 15:49

Thats grim. Its not funny, and its not harmless either.

BlazingPaddles · 21/12/2017 15:50

It has got you all talking though! Job done.

Someone always say this!

It's only 'job done' if the ad increases sales. I wonder what Twinings think and whether they signed off on it. Seems to jar with their branding.

LizzieSiddal · 21/12/2017 15:50

If it’s just a harmless joke then why is the female doll wearing a feminist top to be degraded in? It’s quite pointed.

Hear hear.

It’s crass, mysoginistic and nasty.

WhatATimeToBeAlive · 21/12/2017 15:50

I get it, but it's not remotely funny. Pretty gross really.

ChanandlerBongsNeighbour · 21/12/2017 15:50

I think it's awful. Just awful. Not funny in the slightest and really inappropriate. I would say I am quite relaxed and do find some 'toilet' humour amusing but this just really shit. And not even immediately obvious what the 'joke' element even is! Truly terrible.

holdinoniknow · 21/12/2017 15:51

Eurgh. Really vile.

GetAwayFromHer · 21/12/2017 15:51

Yes, well, it's certainly made me not want to go to Poundland, Might bump into some of you saddos who think this is what passes for funny/good advertising

DiegoMadonna · 21/12/2017 15:51

I'm not offended in the slightest but it's also not funny in the slightest.

gamerchick · 21/12/2017 15:51

As all that elf crap goes it’s pretty funny. If something makes me cringe I welcome a piss take out of it.

BlazingPaddles · 21/12/2017 15:52

I've only just noticed the t shirt. That makes the whole thing even more unsavoury.

speakerwoofers · 21/12/2017 15:53

I looked at the rest of the Poundland Facebook page and it’s all sexual innuendos around the elf and the barbie. I don’t find it funny but I understand that some Poundland shoppers do, and some of them are harmless. But this one gets my back up the most because of the implication thet the elf is literally degrading female “power.”

Pumperthepumper · 21/12/2017 15:53

It’s grim. And of course it’s misogynistic- she’s wearing a feminist tshirt!

DotForShort · 21/12/2017 15:53

I think it's vile and not at all funny.

LloydSpinjago · 21/12/2017 15:53

The choice of top on the doll is a blatant mock of the #metoo and sexual harassment cases in the media IMO

How is it?

Aki99 · 21/12/2017 15:54

yawn

Bananalanacake · 21/12/2017 15:54

I didn't know what teabagging was and I'm too scared to check on Google Shock

k2p2k2tog · 21/12/2017 15:55

Not offended - but it's definitely inappropriate.

Fits with the brand though, downmarket, cheap and tatty.

Idreamofalandrover · 21/12/2017 15:55

If you don't know what teabagging is then dont even Google space docking
