to think there should be a strict ban on trans-identified men in women's sport

We recently had a MAN winning silver medals at the World Weightlifting Championship, at the expense of women.
He could have had gold but appeared to throw the winning lift:

Now we have a journeyman male (194cm tall) volleyball player from Brazil (world's leading volleyball country), who had to go off to random places like Indonesia to find work, walking into the women's Superleague, and outscoring the best female player (and double Olympic champion) on his team 25 points to 9: www.facebook.com/voleibolfemininobauru/photos/a.578277125569830.1073741828.578250175572525/1601320639932135/?type=3&theater

The (male) national team coach says he wants him on the women's team, and he could compete at the 2020 Olympics.

This is a man who couldn't even get a club place in Brazil (out of 10 teams) as a man, now he is one of the the best 'women' in the country, by reason of his male physique.

AIBU to think this is wrong and transitioning males should be
excluded from women's sport under all circumstances?

Honestly it’s crap. Women have spent ages working their arses off to get a bit of recognition and funding for their sports which they have just as much passion for and put just as much work into as the much better rewarded men do.

And now finally they’re getting there and it’s being taken away from them. Geez if I were a sportswoman I’d be well pissed off.

bambambini · 26/12/2017 22:26

There has been tests/research to ensure that males who id as women/girls don’t have wn advantage. I don’t buy it, i want women’s and girls sports to be female only.

cheating 'Tiffany' just broke the all-time women's scoring record, against the strongest women's club in the world including three Olympic gold medallists.

Women's sport is going to be totally decimated by this over the next generation. It's worse than the 70's and 80's where any woman not from the Soviet bloc needn't have bothered turning up in certain sports.

noeffingidea · 01/02/2018 11:42

Or by 'woman's sport' I should say the chances of actual women having a fair chance of winning.
Oops, mustn't be transphobic.

I played competitive volleyball on a pretty high level for many years and the thought of a male with a man's strength, height and jumping ability spiking on a women's net (2.24 m, men's are 2.43 m high) makes me wince.
I've frequently played in mixed social games but you always play these with the higher net.

pisacake · 01/02/2018 12:44

Ooh sorry he's not Tiffany, he's Tifanny. As in Ti-fanny. Yes, really.

Jacques rugby is one of my top examples of how the insanity of this pervades all levels of sport. It's not just about women never getting on the winner's podium again (though that is crazily unfair and will have a massive impact on women's participation in sport). It's about safety too. DS plays under 11s (still mixed at that age) and there are three very talented girls on his team. What happens when they're adults and find themselves confronted with a 6'3" transwoman in the opposing front row (and in the amateur game there are no blood tests so even if one believed 10 nmol/l levelled the playing field, which I don't, there's no guarantee that the player would have made any effort to reduce their testosterone levels). What's a woman supposed to do? She'll have the choice between walking away from the sport she loves or facing potentially life changing/life threatening spinal injuries.
