Clear up an argument for me....
Do you fight back?
Or
Hand over what they want?

Hand the shit over.

It's just stuff.

SnowannaRainbow · 20/12/2017 22:19

Hand it over. No phone/purse/whatever is worth getting stabbed for.

PinkHeart5914 · 20/12/2017 22:19

Hand it over! Nothing in a bag or whatever is worth getting hurt for

ZigZagandDustin · 20/12/2017 22:20

You're supposed to hand it over. You simply never know the mental state of the mugger or if they've a knife or a needle.

Someone once grabbed my handbag from behind at speed and I reacted by violently wrenching it around and throwing the grabber against the wall. It was my fucking sister! I was unexpectedly in her city, she saw me randomly walking along and did it as a joke! I really slammed her!!

glow1984 · 20/12/2017 22:20

I would hand it over

I’m not fussed about my phone; I only care about the photos, and they’re all on iCloud.

I never carry cash on me, so they would be really disappointed. :D they’d literally walk away with £4 and every loyalty card in the world lol

Aroundtheworldandback · 20/12/2017 22:20

Dh bought me some jewellery for a big nasty birthday recently- he’s hoping I get mugged for the lot! Definitely hand it over.

lessworriedaboutthecat · 20/12/2017 22:20

Hand it over as the posters above have said money and stuff aren't worth getting hurt over.

midnightmisssuki · 20/12/2017 22:21

ive been mugged. I just let them take my bag. i was in such shock i actually didnt move and they took the bag off me.

PurplePillowCase · 20/12/2017 22:22

handover
or (what a policeman advised in a security training at work) keep a few coins in a pocket. let them drop to the floor and run.

Greenshoots1 · 20/12/2017 22:22

hand it over. Absolutely nothing in your hand bag is worth putting your life on the line for, ever. You have no idea what could happen if you fight back

DaisysStew · 20/12/2017 22:22

Depends how skint I was and whether or not there were irreplaceable things in my bag. The sensible thing to do is just hand it over though.

midnightmisssuki · 20/12/2017 22:22

^^ one of the reasons why i dont carry a handbag or a wallet anymore. Dont use my rings. Always in flats so i can run if anything were to happen again.

NoNoCharlieRascal · 20/12/2017 22:23

I was told to throw whatever they wanted to the floor at their feet. Gives you time to run while they pick up.

Reality would most likely be cry, hand it over and cry some more.

Hand it over. Everything can be replaced.

Greenshoots1 · 20/12/2017 22:24

I've been mugged, he was a slow runner, I am a fast runner, I could have caught him. I ran in the opposite direction. I might fantasise about catching him and handing him over to the police if it happens again, but I 100% know I did the right thing letting him go and not challenging him

Ellisandra · 20/12/2017 22:24

Well, of course just hand it over.

Reality when I got mugged (for a laptop bag) was that there was no thinking time.

I was pulled to the ground with a coat over my head and pushed the bag off me as fast as I could, literally whimpering "please don't hurt me" over and over.

WhatHappensInVagas411 · 20/12/2017 22:25

Throw what they want one way and you run the other!

There were 4 of them, btw - and I was on the ground before I knew what was happening. But even if it had been 1:1 and face to face, I'd just hand it over.

Feckitall · 20/12/2017 22:28

DD was mugged by 2 guys when she was a teenager...she is a second dan black belt in karate...she flattened them...both dumped on the floor..

Nicknacky · 20/12/2017 22:29

Who is saying you should fight back?

Ellisandra · 20/12/2017 22:29

Agree with Hesterton - you just don't know. I'd have said I'd quickly and calmly give them what they asked for, then run. I might have guessed I'd freeze though. I wouldn't have guessed I'd start begging them not to hurt me in a voice I doubt they could even hear. I was embarrassed about that at first, if I'm honest. I'm not now - my reaction wasn't my "fault" and the crime certainly wasn't.

PaintingByNumbers · 20/12/2017 22:29

Run away always seems a good idea?
I chased a mugger once. Then I caught up with him. Then I realised it might not have been such a good idea. Adrenalin makes you do weird things.

mrsharrison · 20/12/2017 22:31

Depends if they have a weapon. Some arse went for my bag after mounting the payment on one of those mini motorbikes. Instinctively i held on and we had a tug of war where he nearly came off before he gave up and rode off.
I chased him calling him a cunt and throwing a can of beans at him from my shopping bag.
Still makes me laugh thinking of it.
