To think my sister is being a cheeky fucker?

Cheekyeffingsister · 20/12/2017 13:57

We have a family whatsapp group and a few weeks ago we all put lists of present ideas for ourselves/our dcs and everyone said what they would get to avoid duplicates.

Dsis sent hers over, ‘does she think we’re all minted’ says dp whilst looking at her list. Nothing under £75 for her or her dp/DCs. We’re not well off by any means (her present is more than what I’ve spent on my own child) but she had called me and said ‘oh I couldn’t find what you wanted but saw some beautiful things you’ll love while in House of Fraser so got you and dp a £150 voucher towards them’ so based on that I felt I had to get her the pricey presents as couldn’t believe she’d spent so much! (Our presents we sent we’re all under £20)

Now 5 days before Christmas she has sent a message to the group whatsapp ‘Hi guys, just to let you all know we didn’t budget that well for Christmas and Sam asked for an Xbox last minuite so we won’t be doing presents for anyone this year. Hoped to get the kids something but don’t think we’ll have time now. See you Sunday x’

AIBU to think she’s a cheeky fucker? I know I’ll get called grabby and you don’t give to receive etc but to me it seems she’s sent us all pricey things, acting like she’s doing the same then waited until everyone will have bought things to say actually she’s not getting us anything!

I’m more pissed off that she said she’d get one of the things on DDs list and now i can’t find it to arrive before Xmas.

Disclaimer as not to dripfeed - she has form for this kind of thing.

She's probably trying to work out what to say as she's been caught out lying and being a general CF. She thought she'd engineered a brilliant gift grab but now she's been thwarted by OP.

Did you decide to keep the chandelier CF wanted OP?

TacoFlavouredKisses · 21/12/2017 22:10

RTFT tayto

showmewhatyougot · 21/12/2017 22:14

Hopefully she may learn from this, although I'd be very embarrassed if it were me & was actually having money issues, but let's be frank, xbox ones are on offer for £99, your "gift" alone was £150, she never had any intention of getting you gifts!

some people are so entitled!

Have a nice Christmas x

ChevalierTialys · 21/12/2017 22:18

Expect she'll get pretty passive aggressive on christmas day when she realises you really meant it about only doing cards, what an excellent response! Grin

MissesBloom · 21/12/2017 22:47

Xmas day is going to be fun Grin
In all seriousness if she had been that short on money she wouldn't have suggested all the pricey gifts. I don't buy it that she's just suddenly (this close to xmas) taken stock of her budget and realised she over spent.
And if she isn't a cf then she won't kick off about not getting a gift from you, she'll be relieved (although it's not likely as she has cf-ish-ness written all over her!!)

Sparklyglitter · 21/12/2017 22:52

Do not give whatever you bought her and either get a refund or spend it on your family - she sounds utterly selfish!

manicmij · 21/12/2017 23:17

What a nerve. Get refund for anything you can that you have bought for her and partner. Chance to say the least.

WendyWhale · 21/12/2017 23:25

Jesus wept - place marking for her reaction Grin

DO3271 · 21/12/2017 23:28

I just don't understand greed like that. She is an entitled woman. I hope you get refunds on everything and would like to know what happens Grin

Flumplet · 21/12/2017 23:34

Well done OP. I am looking forward to hearing her response - keep us updated!!

expatinscotland · 21/12/2017 23:42

I love it when people don't let others fuck them over and rip the piss out of them! Well done for keeping it simple, too. Just stick to that. Never justify anything to these CFers. She kicks off on Xmas Day you just remind her that you agreed no gifts.

hks · 21/12/2017 23:42

i'd make sure they didnt get anything either = i'd keep , return or sell the gift you got for them

My brother /Sil forgot my daughters 13th recently even though she had mentioned it in a conversation the week before. not even a card , phonecall or text !! next year i will be doing the same

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 21/12/2017 23:50

Good for you not pandering OP. And next time she suggests expensive gifts please just say that's over our budget. I've got a CF in my family, but your sister really is something else!

Wineandpyjamas · 21/12/2017 23:53

Oh I love this! Have got so overly invested in this now. Well done for not letting her walk all over you and well done your DP too. I'm amusing myself by trying to envision her CF reaction to your text! Can't wait for an update.

WhatCanIDoNowPlease · 21/12/2017 23:58

Has she seen the whats app message?

DeepanKrispanEven · 22/12/2017 00:04

There's not much she can say in reply to that, is there? She can hardly throw a hissy fit about not being given presents when she's announced her intention not to give any. I guess she could make a bit of a fuss on behalf of her child, but she's still not in a strong position.

DavidBowiesNumber1 · 22/12/2017 06:09

I know it's all sorted now OP, since you've (quite rightly) called her out on her CFery, but another thing I'd have had an issue with was the fact she said there was no time now to buy presents for your DC....she would have time to put some money (£75 per DC perhaps?!) in a card to present on Christmas day so NO REASON AT ALL to leave your DC out.

As for the phantom £150 vouchers, I'd offer to buy them off her, at a discount, if she's so strapped for cash now...... Grin

TheObserverOne · 22/12/2017 08:04

I can’t wait for the update on xmas day!

Letseatgrandma · 22/12/2017 08:21

Dsis sent hers over, ‘does she think we’re all minted’ says dp whilst looking at her list. Nothing under £75 for her or her dp/DCs. We’re not well off by any means (her present is more than what I’ve spent on my own child) but she had called me and said ‘oh I couldn’t find what you wanted but saw some beautiful things you’ll love while in House of Fraser so got you and dp a £150 voucher towards them’ so based on that I felt I had to get her the pricey presents as couldn’t believe she’d spent so much!

What I really don’t understand is why you would spend so much on someone who already has form for being a cf-why would you do that?!

Gilly12345 · 22/12/2017 08:43

I agree with everyone else your Sister is one cheeky f&&&&&, you can choose your friends but unfortunately not your family. I particularly agree with chicaguapa just to see her reaction, that would make my Christmas.

Aeroflotgirl · 22/12/2017 09:19

Why does it take mum's net to help you realise that, your sister is being s cheeky bint. And you spent £150 on her alone just because she told you. Are you always so compliant to her! She had n intention of spending that on you, probably lucky with a £1 box if Malteesers from her! That list would have got my back up.and made me so annoyed. I definitely would not have followed at all, and deleted it. I would have gotten her a token present, and small gifts for the kids as a result.

Aeroflotgirl · 22/12/2017 09:35

The silence from her, is that she's probably annoyed she's been played at her own game, and she's moaning at your parents.

Turquoise123 · 22/12/2017 09:56

Return presents for her and husband - which is polite and friendly so as to fit in with them- but give presents for children.

Christmas would be so much better without presents when will we all learn eh?

Anasnake · 22/12/2017 09:59

Her silence speaks volumes

TT10677 · 22/12/2017 10:25

Oh yes what shirleyphallas said. Say no presents is fine with us too.
