If that is true then we need to build a sovereign country that is also economically self reliant.

What will the economy be built on? It's not going to be manufacturing - in many areas we just cannot compete with the USA or China. One of our main successes was in banking (but we have lost that advantage by leaving Europe). Which area do you suggest a small country outside of trading blocs would do well to invest in?

How about exporting Royal paraphernalia?

Starlight2345 · 19/12/2017 15:18

all I can say.. maybe the politicians could treat us like grown ups and give us the facts in the first place maybe it would never of happened . but it did. people get panicked by change but were so unhappy with how things were wanted things to change. says it all really.

Entitlement and DontTheyKnowWhoWeAreIsm?

It's all made in China though.

I agree that politicians told barefaced lies during the campaign; see £350million to the NHS. But I also think the electorate should have a sense of civic duty to do a bit of research for themselves. None of it is a secret. It's all online, in print, readily available. There are plenty of explainers that are digestible without needing a postgraduate degree in European studies or needing to consult documents packed with mind-numbing EU technical jargon.

VladmirsPoutine · 19/12/2017 15:56

The rather unfortunate aspect is areas that voted predominately to leave will actually suffer the fall out more than areas that predominantly chose to remain. I absolutely empathise with the feelings disenfranchisement and hopelessness of those regions but the blame lies squarely at Westminster's doors. Not the EU's.

I am by no means a dyed-in-the-wool Europhile and I think the EU has many flaws but on this one issue of Brexit alone I just don't think it was executed appropriately from conception.

Humpsfor20yards · 19/12/2017 16:21

we need to build a sovereign country that is also economically self reliant. People voted to leave the EU because we want to stand on our own two feet

Tell us about our economically self reliant economy, Julie.

Most brexiteers seem to want to destroy financial services- our most lucrative industry- what industries are you expecting to put in its place? What are we going to produce?

Is this general brexiteer thought- or just Julie?

Humpsfor20yards · 19/12/2017 16:44

Oh pissedoff, you know the rules.

Brexiteers are victims.

Do not deviate from this narrative.

Julie8008 · 19/12/2017 17:15

If you think the UK is a small unproductive country needing to be supervised by France and Germany then fine I accept your pessimism. Fortunately its not the majority of voters opinions, so move out of the way and let Leavers put their money where their votes are and turn Brexit into a prosperous UK.

If we are wrong and dont manage it then we will raise the white flag and surrender to our betters in the EU.

Humpsfor20yards · 19/12/2017 17:17

Just tell us some of the things we are going to make money from when we are self-sufficient. You must have some ideas, no?

JacquesHammer · 19/12/2017 17:18

so move out of the way and let Leavers put their money where their votes are

Most reasonable suggestion yet. If it all goes to hell in a handcart and the economy tanks, Leavers can cover the cost. I mean if they're that confident....Grin

LoveInTokyo · 19/12/2017 17:21

It's almost as if Julie doesn't realise she's talking complete shit...

Julie8008 · 19/12/2017 17:25

Just tell us some of the things we are going to make money from when we are self-sufficient

Not falling into that trap, because any idea can have pros and cons, and all remainers ever do it bang on about the cons of everything. If we were so small and pathetic why would the EU be scared we might become a beacon for others to leave the club?

JacquesHammer · 19/12/2017 17:33

Not falling into that trap

Roughly translated as "there's no idea whatsoever"?

And that's why this debate is nothing but circular, because those who are telling us we have to get behind Brexit actually can't give anybody any concrete suggestions as to what the plan is.

Super

JacquesHammer · 19/12/2017 17:34

See I see the Leave campaign in general as very similar to me when I visit the supermarket without a shopping list.

I spend shit loads, get stuff I don't really need and actually end up with nothing of use whatsoever

Bigthoughtswoman · 19/12/2017 17:38

It wasn't a democratic vote, though, was it. For one thing it was an advisory referendum not a binding one. And for another, one side was outright lying about what would happen. That's not democracy

Everyone who wanted to was given a vote ? How isn’t it democracy ??

So sick of this going on and on...snowflakes !!
Biscuit to the whole thread....bah humbug !! Etc etc etc...

LoveInTokyo · 19/12/2017 17:41

You obviously haven't RTFT, but just as a heads up, when you say "snowflake" I think "you are clearly an idiot whose opinion isn't worth listening to". Same goes for "remoaners", "remainiacs" and other silly words like that.

Julie8008 · 19/12/2017 17:46

Roughly translated as "there's no idea whatsoever"?
Or more correctly translated as "there is no answer that will ever satisfy remainers".

And that's why this debate is nothing but circular

L: "We are leaving the EU"
R: "No arrgh, it will never work"
L: "We are still leaving the EU"
R: "No but no but arrrgh"
L: "We are still leaving the EU"
R: "No listen to me, no"
L: "We are still leaving the EU"
R: "No I say no, I forbid you to leave"
L: "We are still leaving the EU"
R: "You are a shit"
L: "We are still leaving the EU"
R: "Arggggg I dont want to"

And so it goes round and around.

Humpsfor20yards · 19/12/2017 17:50

'remainers moan too much so I'm not going to tell them the brilliant ways the uk is going to be a self sufficient economy post-brexit'

Grin

Surely some leavers must be embarrassed by Julie's posts or do you all believe what she comes out with?

Julie8008 · 19/12/2017 17:51

See I see the Leave campaign in general as very similar to me when I visit the supermarket without a shopping list
Yes some people are like that with shopping.
Others like me stay within my budget. And what ever ingredients I come home with I figure out how to make them into meals. Often discovering new things to eat and stretching myself to learn new things. Win win.

JacquesHammer · 19/12/2017 17:53

Julie - where have I abused you?

Or are you doing that tiresome thing yet again where you lump all "remainers" into a homogenous mass?

I'm genuinely interested in your suggestions as to how the economy will work. Unfortunately you appear to have none.

Julie8008 · 19/12/2017 17:54

Humpsfor20yards Its not my job to spoon feed you information. Get outside your comfort zone and read some of the visions of prominent Brexiteers. I am sure you can spell googol?
