Hi all, this is my first AIBU but I'm having a panic.
Non vegan mates over this eve, they always make every effort to accommodate us when we go there but this is their first visit to ours since we are vegan.
Shall I suck it up and cook a corpse or stick with a vegan menu? Would you be offended to eat vegan at a friends as a meat eater?
Thanks in advance if you reply. Could do with a few views...

I'm an omnivore and not only would I expect to eat a vegan meal at a vegan friend's house, I'd secretly hope they would serve up something amazing to inspire me to eat more meat-free dishes. No need to offer meat IMHO.

LOL @ "corpse" Grin

Originalfoogirl · 15/12/2017 16:54

the difference here is you don't eat meat at EVERY meal you eat, and am sure you enjoy vegetable, pules, beans, etc as well as meat dishes?
I have meat with every evening meal. I can’t stand beans or pulses and i’ve never yet seen a vegan or vegetarian meal where I thought “mmmmm, sounds lovely”

Italiangreyhound · 15/12/2017 16:58

"corpse
kɔːps/Submit
noun
1.
a dead body, especially of a human being rather than an animal."

Try not to cook a corpse. A vegan meal would be lovely.

Blackteadrinker77 · 15/12/2017 16:59

I have vegan friends and they have never served me meat. I would never expect them to either.
Some of the favourites they make me is chickpea and potato curry, flaxseed pizza, they use violife pizza for cheese which is lovely.
Lentil soup, lentil meatloaf, nut roast, vegan raw snickers.

There must be some foods you like which aren’t meat or dairy. Your whole evening meal can’t be meat.

honeyandginger48 · 15/12/2017 17:01

Vegan food can be amazing. I'm vegetarian and wouldn't know where to start cooking meat (unless it's just heated up in the oven, and even then it would probably be overdone and inedible.) I'm sure your friends will love whatever you cook for them. It's you they're coming to see!

FluffyWuffy100 · 15/12/2017 17:01

I can’t belive anyone would expect a vegan friend to cook them meat.

I suspect that most Vegas don’t have many ‘I only eat meat and if ta not meat I ain’t eating it’ friends anyway.

ReturnOfTheMackYesItIs · 15/12/2017 17:02

Cook vegan. I probably wouldn't bother with a pudding unless it's fruit - I've never enjoyed a vegan pudding but that might just be me.

AtLeastThreeDrinks · 15/12/2017 17:04

Ahh sad it’s so last minute, I made the best vegan cheesecakes the other week for a visiting friend and everyone (meat eaters included) said they were better than the real thing! Here if you want to try in future,

I eat meat but we’re massively cutting down and I love cooking veggie or vegan when we have people over, it’s a great way to introduce people to new foods. I don’t mean that to be patronising – my friends cook exciting new things for us, too! Hope they enjoy the feast.

scrabbler3 · 15/12/2017 17:05

I'm a pescetarian. I'd feel awkward if a vegan friend who'd been kind enough to invite me, cooked fish/cheese/eggs for me.

I went to a phenomenal vegan cafe in Bath recently. If they cooked for me every day I'd be vegan no problem!

Enjoy your get-together!

PurpleDaisies · 15/12/2017 17:05

Which one is that scrabbler?

PurplePillowCase · 15/12/2017 17:06

yabu for the corpse comment.
yanbu to cook a delicious plant based meal.

NoFuckingRoomOnMyBroom · 15/12/2017 17:07

Cook a corpse Grin Please don't do that-I'm a meat eater but have never, to my knowledge, tucked into a corpse.
As long as the food is good it shouldn't matter if it's Vegan.

Welshmaenad · 15/12/2017 17:07

When I go to dinner at my vegan friends I look forward to the creative vegan dishes he makes. He does a bloody awesome cashew cream curry. No way would I expect him to cook me meat.

numbereightyone · 15/12/2017 17:11

I often cook vegan food despite not being a vegetarian. This week we had a wonderful nut roast. I would never expect to eat meat at a vegan's home.

speakout · 15/12/2017 17:13

I wouldn't want to eat meat at a vegan's house.

It would probably be rank.

Charolais · 15/12/2017 17:14

I haven’t eaten meat since 1974 and I see it for what it is - a chunk of some poor dead animal. I couldn't imagine having that in my kitchen, in my cookware and plates....yuck. To me it is revolting. I often cook for meat eaters and they seem to like what I cook because they keep coming back for more. lol.

minipie · 15/12/2017 17:16

OP if you were "that vegan" you wouldn't have asked this question or even considered serving animal products for one second!

I thought cook a corpse was funny (I'm a very unsqueamish omnivore).

Agree that dessert is trick but there's some very good vegan ice cream and chocolate out there so maybe cooked fruit, vegan ice
cream, toasted flaked almonds or chopped chocolate scattered over... mmm

Originalfoogirl · 15/12/2017 17:18

There must be some foods you like which aren’t meat or dairy. Your whole evening meal can’t be meat.

Are you suggesting a suitable meal would be just to serve potatoes and veg?

JacquesHammer · 15/12/2017 17:20

It would probably be rank

Wow. Are you always so simplistic? Why would it be rank?

AuldHeathen · 15/12/2017 17:22

Definitely vegan. Some people might be offended but do it anyway. See below.

This reminds me my SIL told me - when in my vegetarian house, having eaten some of our food! - that vegetarians should always cater for meat eaters by cooking meat. I was briefly rendered speechless. I‘d actually forgotten this till now. I was thinking of inviting them up over the next few weeks and don‘t want to. Aargh! Btw SIL has been in our family nearly years and l was veggie before that.

speakout · 15/12/2017 17:25

How can you cook a piece of food without tasting, caring about the process, or even feeling disgusted while you touch it or move it about the pan.

The best tasting food is cooked with heart, not resentment.

I wouldn't want to eat meat cooked by a vegan.

mustbemad17 · 15/12/2017 17:26

Eagerly awaiting photos of this feast! I'm a meat eater but I wouldn't expect any of my vegetarian or vegan friends to cook meat for me. I loved the cook a corpse line, it is exactly the sort of humour me & my veggie/vegan friends share. And no, they aren't the judgemental, hardcore lecturing types. We wouldn't be friends if they were!!

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 15/12/2017 17:31

I would be very happy to try your Vegan cuisine.
I don't think there's any need to cook meat.
For your guests it'll be something different, a treat !

SunnyCoco · 15/12/2017 17:31

OP I thought wine wasn’t vegan due to being refined via fish bones etc
Is this wrong? Thanks
