To tell fibs for a soup recipe

Last week I was out for my works Xmas lunch. Overall the lunch was pretty decent, but the starter, lentil soup, was out of this world. It was the most amazing soup I've ever tasted! Seriously I almost cried.

The past week I've thought about the soup every night, thinking of how i can get my hands on the recipe.

If I simply phone the restaurant and say OMG your soup was amazing please give me the recipe I'm certain they'll say no.

Is it wrong to say I had a funny reaction to the soup please give me a list of all the ingredients (preferably with quanititesGrin)?

Or could I say I'm coming to your restaurant and I have funny allergies what's in your lentil soup exactly?

Help I need this recipe! The restaurant is a long drive from my work and home so DH will be like I'm not driving ☓ miles for a bowl of soup.

If I don't get this recipe I will regret it forever. Santa if you're up there i take back my request for Dreamgirls tickets please can you get me this recipe!

Do a favourable Trip Advisor review to soften them up.

crackerjacket · 13/12/2017 14:03

HAVE THEY REPLIED YET?

FlaviaAlbia · 13/12/2017 14:03

PositivelyPERF ha, Home had the most amazing beef bourguignon I've ever had one time I was there. None elsewhere, even in France, has compared to it. I wish they'd do a recipe book.

Also, I'm going tomorrow Grin

GeekyWombat · 13/12/2017 14:05

Agree with favourable Facebook / Trip Advisor review!

GinnyWreckin · 13/12/2017 14:06

Am I the only one who asks to see the chef? Blush

notyourmummy · 13/12/2017 14:10

Mmmmm... Lentil soup, salivating whilst waiting for updates here!!

SchadenfreudePersonified · 13/12/2017 14:10

My 'secret' to a decent lentil soup is one of those really cheap packs of cooking bacon.

Same here.

I LOVE lentils. They are the food of the gods.

GeekyWombat · 13/12/2017 14:11

I’m eating Christmas soup now. I wasn’t even SUPPOSED to have lunch today! (Very large breakfast and then cake while tending poorly DD)

QueenArseClangers · 13/12/2017 14:12

Guess what I’ve got on the simmer thanks to you OP? Grin

AntoniaCaenis · 13/12/2017 14:14

Shameless placeparking and hopefully receipe pinching

Madreputa · 13/12/2017 14:15

Often when I eat something I am able to tell all the ingredients that have been used in the recipe and recreate it.

QuimReaper · 13/12/2017 14:17

Can those of you who have amazing lentil soup recipes post them for me, pretty please?

OP, was the dish marked as vegetarian? They might not give you the recipe if it's supposed to be veggie but the secret ingredient is gammon stock Shock

UterusUterusGhali · 13/12/2017 14:18

Lunch service should be over by now.

YourVagesty · 13/12/2017 14:19

Have they replied yet OP? Have they, huh huh?!

PositivelyPERF · 13/12/2017 14:20

Also, I'm going tomorrow grin

Sobs into tinned veg soup. 😢

Hope you have a lovely meal. It has an amazing selection of menus, doesn't it. From the 'traditional' meat eater's menu to the vegetarian, vegan and even slimmer's menu. That's it, I'm booking a table. Now wishing I had a mumsnetter scarf. 😁

blueskyinmarch · 13/12/2017 14:20

I love lentil soup. I am hoping for a new luscious recipe courtesy of this thread!

PositivelyPERF · 13/12/2017 14:21

Blimey I sound like an advertisement. 😄

MrsPepperpot79 · 13/12/2017 14:22

Shameless placemark for a recipe!

crackerjacket · 13/12/2017 14:23

@ Geeky

Christmas soup? What's that exactly?

crackerjacket · 13/12/2017 14:24

(way too invested in this thread)

Blackcatonthesofa · 13/12/2017 14:30

It's been aaaaages since I made lentil soup. Please share the recipe if they'll give it to you.

Patricia123456 · 13/12/2017 14:31

Sounds great! Hope they reply

BigApple11 · 13/12/2017 14:43

Please share all the recipes!

Mary1935 · 13/12/2017 14:45

Delia smith has a great recipe for lentil soup - it's really wholesome. You add chopped white cabbage 10 mins before the end. I will make it for lunch at work next week instead of salad!!!! It's a bit cold for that wouldn't you agree.😋

Soupreme · 13/12/2017 14:45

Apologies for the delayed update but so far no response Sad. Not even a 'thanks for your email...' acknowledgment. Maybe I should phone up instead? Or is that to desperate?

Here is a link to the restaurant
www.mabiehousehotel.co.uk/

I'm half inclined to take the recipe by force - with a crusty french stick for a sword and a rustic sourdough loaf as my shield. Who's with me!!

...Forgive me I'm delirious from lentil soup withdrawel
