AIBU To Not like Blue Christmas lights? (Light-hearted)

I really do not like them and yet where I live they have become very 'popular'.

I love original yellow fairy lights, no chaser, no flashing, no colours as such -no bright white.

Never mind, each to their own! X

Either multicoloured or white for me. Can't stand the blue or even worse red lights

IrianOfW · 12/12/2017 15:03

Agreed. They are cold.

Lights should be like starlight twinkling on frost (ie white) or yellow-white like firelight/candlelight showing through windows.

So there.

However as my children tell me I am a miserable old cow, we now have coloured lights as well (not blue!)

The blue lights are even uglier than the full works on a house front. Only warm white is beautiful - or - no lights at all, just greenery.

RoseWhiteTips · 12/12/2017 15:07
  • or no lights...
Cyclewidow46 · 12/12/2017 15:08

I absolutely hate the blue lights!
Not festive at all.

Fiona1984 · 12/12/2017 15:10

We have some lovely copper coloured lights, but they are indoor ones, they look lovely and cosy, like firelight :)

SugarPlumFerry · 12/12/2017 15:31

YaSOnbu. I always think they make the street look colder and more miserable on cold grey days (too far south for snow here) and also a little bit messy looking I do love multicoloured lights though and warm white lights too. Makes everything look jolly and cosy Xmas Smile

TheDevilMadeMeDoIt · 12/12/2017 17:23

I don't like them at all. The tree should be warm white lights and red, green and gold decorations.

But I can't help thinking that in a few years time, when they're out of fashion and it's all warm white, and the aforementioned red, green and gold again, there'll be people who are children now complaining that 'it's not Christmassy!! It should be blue lights at Christmas!'

GlomOfNit · 12/12/2017 18:38

They are bloody awful and make me feel miserable. I think it's the general association with blue-light emergencies. But they're cold and harsh and so unChristmassy. I growl at the houses that have them up outside!

In fact, all sodding LED lights should be banned on grounds of being too bright, brash and headache-inducing. And the multi-coloured all look the same regardless of brand or set - same four colours. I just bought me some soft, push-in bulb fairy lights by Pifco and they have soft PINK lights included! Remember those?

KurriKurri · 12/12/2017 18:50

The hosue directly opposite me has them and when they com eon in the evening they shine an eerie blue glow into my hallway (I have glass panels in my door)
Also my dog hates them - as soon as they come on he goes to the door and barks Grin

I don't say anything because my opposite neighbour is the loveliest person so I reckon she can have whatever lights she likes even if they aren;t my cup of tea.

I'm reading this thread by the blue lights of my Christmas tree!

If i was Prime Minister I would outlaw them as my first job

Festive Could you put yourself up for the job, I'll vote for you!

ToadOfSadness · 12/12/2017 19:20

I quite liked them when I first saw them, early 2000's and all previous ones had been red, green, white & yellow. I never got any though.

Then they made me think of the Tesco lights and I went off them.

Mine are white, if I bother to put them up.

NC4now · 12/12/2017 19:21

Blue flashing lights are for police cars and ambulances. They have no place on a Christmas tree.

Hubblebubble64 · 12/12/2017 19:23

Another one who hates blue lights, cheap and cold looking.

PinkFlamingo888 · 12/12/2017 19:25

I do not like them and as someone else said I hate them even more when I’m driving and people have blue flashing lights outside their house as I always think there’s an emergency vehicle.

Rarotonga · 12/12/2017 19:29

YANBU. I love blue, and always buy pretty much everything in blue. The blue Christmas tree lights were a mistake and lasted about a day before I bought some nice soft warm white ones. Much nicer!

flojo73 · 12/12/2017 19:29

YANBU!!
I love Christmas lights, but I think the bright blue flashing variety are horrible.

Littlewhitedove · 12/12/2017 19:33

YANBU. They hurt my eyes, they are so harsh. For me, blue lights are for the emergency services.

MrsHathaway · 12/12/2017 19:34

Over the road have blue and orange flashing. Every time I wander past the front door I momentarily think there must be an emergency vehicle outside.

I don't mind blue, though. It's definitely wintry (if not strictly Christmassy). I'd just rather static than flashing.

DMCWelshCakes · 12/12/2017 19:48

I really don't like any lights that flash. And blue is NOT Christmassy.

I can see where they'd work as Chanukah lights if they were with silver decorations etc. But on,y if they don't flash!

Justabadwife · 12/12/2017 19:55

I have blue lights, on a white xmas trees with pink, blue and silver decorations. 😨😨 warm white just looked silly and I forgot my artificial tree was white as we had a real tree last 2 years (with no lights, because our neighbours had a house fire because of the xmas tree and it terrified dd) in January im buying a new tree and decorations ❤

Jupiter15 · 12/12/2017 20:13

YANBU

goose1964 · 12/12/2017 20:21

I'm convinced that I read once that the first led lights were blue because they did not have the technology to make them white, that happened a few years later by which time a lot of people had bought blue ones

SpicedGingerTea · 12/12/2017 20:28

Yanbu.

Warm white here.
