AIBU To Not like Blue Christmas lights? (Light-hearted)

I really do not like them and yet where I live they have become very 'popular'.

I love original yellow fairy lights, no chaser, no flashing, no colours as such -no bright white.

Never mind, each to their own! X

YANBU

They are too blue.

Dustysparrow · 13/12/2017 13:29

Blue lights only work if there are other colours mingled with them. IMHO.

KipperBalloon · 13/12/2017 13:43

YADDDNBU. They're horrid!

I currently still have a set of incandescent lights on my tree but no spare bulbs. Each Christmas I pray they will work when I switch them on, but I know eventually my time will be up and it'll be LED or nothing. Does anyone know if you can still buy incandescent lights anywhere? I'm really unhappy with whoever decided to outlaw old fashioned bulbs.

BlindYeo this is me! I still have incandescent lights on our tree. If you check out eBay you may be able to find some spare bulbs for your set. I've been stockpiling spares to keep mine going as long as possible. Grin

Also, (if it's multicoloured lights you're after) these might do the trick in the long run? I'm planning to buy some to put away for when my incandescent set finally die. www.lights4fun.co.uk/i/q/PL17011/100-multi-coloured-led-traditional-christmas-tree-lights

HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE WITH THE FIERY PASSION OF A THOUSAND WARM WHITE SUNS.

SistersOfPercy · 13/12/2017 13:49

Don't mind them indoors, but where I live has certain unsavoury parts and can never decide whether it's festive or a riot going on.

BearSoFair · 13/12/2017 14:43

I had no idea so many people didn't like blue lights! We always have blue and white lights on the tree, not flashing/chasing though as the cats then see it as an invitation to climb...

Didiplanthis · 13/12/2017 14:47

Also hate them but unfortunately bought some by accident too far away to return and too tight to not use them !

FoofFighter · 13/12/2017 14:48

Hate them, can't seem to focus on them properly then I start feeling nauseous.

ElizaDontlittle · 13/12/2017 14:54

I didn't know they were initially got Hanukkah - you always learn something on MN.
I don't like flashing lights at all. Migraine inducing. There are some on the Christmas tree in our church and a friend and I always subtly switch them to the solid on setting if we are in the band. But blue is not Christmassy and flashing even worse.

Knittedfairies · 13/12/2017 17:04

I hate them: they look like gas jets to me!

Shufflebumnessie · 13/12/2017 17:22

DH & I both agree that blue lights make our eyes go funny - as though we're seeing double! I don't like the brigh white ones either. Both are cold looking and I just think Christmas lights should be warm and inviting. Personally I like the warm white (sort of yellow / orange glow) and warm multi-coloured ones.

RestingGrinchFace · 13/12/2017 17:26

YANBU, they are hideous. It's like someone tried to make real Christmas lights, warm, soft, twinkling but failed and ended up with cold, harsh, seizure inducing flashing instead.

DailyMailReadersAreThick · 13/12/2017 17:28

Pity the poor lovely trees ruined by blue lights Sad

bluescreen · 13/12/2017 17:41

I am glad you started this thread, so I don't have to. They are everywhere round here. Coming back from a very cold walk just now I saw some in a neighbour's window and wondered if the y came home thinking: "Oh, home! It looks so warm and welcoming!"

Wh0KnowsWhereTheTimeG0es · 13/12/2017 22:48

I love them, you can keep your boring white lights, multicoloured with plenty of blue all the way for me.

Grilledaubergines · 13/12/2017 23:11

Dislike blue and white - very cold.

Yellow is warm and inviting to me, and coloured is beautiful and 70s/80s reminding and takes me back to childhood.

UnderCaffeinated · 13/12/2017 23:37

All I like it warm white lights, that don't flash or move in anyway. I think that multicoloured or blue is just tacky, and I hate all of them moving, I'm a majorly fussy bugger.

BathshebaKnickerStickers · 13/12/2017 23:39

You are wrong, my tree is beautiful

I don’t want to like them as they’re wrong, just wrong, but I really love themSmile

AreThereAnyUsersnamesLeft · 14/12/2017 05:15

yes I think you are right goose

mathanxiety · 14/12/2017 05:52

Not a very lighthearted remark, but imo this thread could be hurtful to Jewish families.

How ok is it to post so vehemently how much you hate it, despite knowing that some readers of your comments may be celebrating Hanukkah today, with their blue-lit tree?

CocaColaTruck · 14/12/2017 06:00

Because I think they look awful, I'm allowed an opinion. It isn't racist to dislike coloured lights, if that's what you're implying. Grips needed.

mathanxiety · 14/12/2017 07:27

In the context of persecution of Jews throughout history, and the way Jews often had to hide their Jewishness or face dire consequences, that is a very ignorant stance to take.

Jews may or may not welcome vehement statements on how appalling you find colours associated with the celebration of their holiday. Some statements here may come across as quite hostile, particularly those posted after the association with Hanukkah was pointed out, given the long history of persecution.

Dixiestampsagain · 14/12/2017 07:39

I’m pretty sure that people can give their opinion about colours without the accusation that they are offending Jewish people! Talk about twisting things!! I’m also fairly sure that blue lights at Christmas have only become a mass produced ‘thing’ in the last 10 years or so.

StripySocksAndDocs · 14/12/2017 08:15

Think l'll wait for actual persecution and insult before I get offended and call antisemitism.

I actually recognise the username mathanxiety, which is unusual for me. I've a feeling it's been attached to other bizarre and ott posts (just can't recall what!).

Happy Hanukkah
