AIBU To Not like Blue Christmas lights? (Light-hearted)

I really do not like them and yet where I live they have become very 'popular'.

I love original yellow fairy lights, no chaser, no flashing, no colours as such -no bright white.

Never mind, each to their own! X

Billy they're really not...sorry. :( They look like ambulance or police lights.

Nothing festive about them at all.

pictish · 12/12/2017 06:06

I don't like them either. They're cold and unfestive.

Sorry...that's a clicky link to a buzzfeed article about blue Christmas lights.

Dh once made noises about getting some but I made like the lights and gave him a cold, hard stare.

MadisonAvenue · 12/12/2017 06:18

YANBU. They look so cold and make me think there's been a police incident.

mathanxiety · 12/12/2017 06:21

YABU.

They started as Hanukkah lights here in the US, so you're all right that they are not Christmassy, but they are in fact festive. We get them in more lavender-ish blue shades here. Some are downright gorgeous. Pale blueish LED lights are not nice at all, but a good deep blue is lovely, imo.

I think the confusion with emergency lights is dangerous.
People will stop reacting to them.

Oblomov17 · 12/12/2017 06:49

I love blue lights. They're my favourite.

whiteroseredrose · 12/12/2017 06:49

I agree with you OP. Not Christmassy and easily confused with emergency services.

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 12/12/2017 06:52

Our neighbours have some outside that they don’t have to look at but I do. I keep thinking it’s the Police.

WombOfOnesOwn · 12/12/2017 06:52

They hurt my eyes, like someone is drilling into them with a very tiny drill. UV lights do the same thing. If I'm around them too long and look at them too closely (maybe 5 minutes or so) I get woozy and then end up with a full-on migraine.

So I guess I'm saying ... I wish they were never invented!

AdalindSchade · 12/12/2017 06:55

I hate blue Christmas lights. They look awful.

FairfaxAikman · 12/12/2017 06:58

I think they should be banned - at the very least near roads - because they do look like emergency services.
There's a house at the side of a motorway that o drive regularly. The house is after a bend/curve and you see a fair number of drivers hit the brakes when they come round and see them - potentially lethal in snow and ice.

LittleCandle · 12/12/2017 06:59

I don't like them and I especially hate the flashing ones the new neighbours have just inflicted upon us in the last 2 days...

caroline161 · 12/12/2017 08:01

Our neighbours who live opposite have some. My dad babysat the other night and thought the police had arrived..

Roussette · 12/12/2017 08:08

I want lights the colour of candlelight or a warm fire in the grate, not lights the cold colour of a morgue, a freezer room or an ambulance flashing light!

CocaColaTruck · 12/12/2017 08:17

Hate, hate, hate them. And the nasty green ones.

LivLemler · 12/12/2017 08:19

How dare you OP. This is not a light-hearted issue AT ALL. The only acceptable lights are warm white or coloured. Blue or bright white are an abomination.

Tobebythesea · 12/12/2017 08:21

YANBU. I also hate blue lights. It’s so cold looking and not festive.

Crumbs1 · 12/12/2017 08:23

They’re ghastly.
The flashing ones must cause traffic accidents as they look like emergency vehicles when you come around a bend and see them unexpectedl.

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 12/12/2017 08:25

We put blue lights up one year. They did look cold but have to say when it snowed they looked better against a white background.
Didn't make a connection with emergency services though.

Lucisky · 12/12/2017 08:31

I don't like the style of lights at all now, and yes, the blue (and red) as single colour strings are not attractive.
LED lights do not throw the light like the old fashioned push in bulbs. When I turn my tree lights on the decorations are not illuminated - they just look rather black. The old lights used to reflect off the decorations. I think it is something to do with the lack of lumens in individual led's?
When I used just push ins, a string of 40 was really bright on a 4ft tree - you didn't need more, and anway, they didn't come in strings with hundreds of lights 30 years ago. Now on my 4ft tree I have 200 lights, but they don't look that bright. Christmas just ain't the same anymore.

Ecureuil · 12/12/2017 08:34

YADNBU

CaptainHammer · 12/12/2017 08:34

Yanbu.
I drive a lot for work and always think they are emergency vehicles. They are really irritating.

Mupflup · 12/12/2017 08:40

Horrid things. This year one of our neighbours has also gone for a bright neon red / cold white flashing combo. Their house looks like a cross between a Coke advert and a cheap strip club.

Onionringo · 12/12/2017 09:00

I hate blue lights too. My next door neighbours have blue outdoor lights. Whenever I'm watching tv, I keep thinking an ambulance is coming.
