AIBU To Not like Blue Christmas lights? (Light-hearted)

I really do not like them and yet where I live they have become very 'popular'.

I love original yellow fairy lights, no chaser, no flashing, no colours as such -no bright white.

Never mind, each to their own! X

To reiterate, the blue LED lights are vile as are the white LED ones.

BulletFox · 17/12/2017 14:54

Oh I love the blue ones!

I used to work with someone vehemently opposed to them, it made me laugh when we drove past some at Christmas and he muttered in displeasure

AnnabelleLecter · 17/12/2017 14:56

I was in a cafe yesterday and they had beautiful blue and white lights- very tiny and twinkly rather than flashing.
I actually like the icy cold ones I thought they looked good in the snow.
We have multi coloured ones here both inside and out.

TheHolidayArmadillo · 17/12/2017 15:13

I'm willing to bet that the majority of the houses near me, if not all of the houses, that have blue lights up aren't celebrating Hanukkah.

mathanxiety · 17/12/2017 19:01

I know they are talking about Christmas Xmas Smile. They are judging something else by the standards of Christmas. Those who put up blue lights are most likely not celebrating Hanukkah, I agree, just taking the one external symbol of it that literally hits you literally between the eyes, only to have others complain that it's not Christmassy. And no, it's not. The point being that complaining they are not Christmassy shows ignorance of what they actually are.

RoseWhiteTips · 17/12/2017 19:34

Sigh

user1489679054 · 17/12/2017 19:45

I can't stand them.

As an aside, I live in the most jewish residential area outside Isreal per capita of population. Barely a single blue light up for Hannukah.

TooManyPaws · 17/12/2017 21:26

My BFF doesn't go for blue lights but she does have a multicoloured flashing menorah 🕎 and musical dreidel instead for Hanukkah.

I prefer the soft white lights and almost ended up in a row with DP when he suggested blue lights but then I saw some on the outside of a local house the other day and they were really pretty in keeping with colours of the door/garage etc 😂 made the mistake of tell DP it looked pretty now he keeps talking about getting them for next year 🙄 but I just think like everything else in the world every one likes different things and can do what that want - apart from my DP, blue lights won't be being seen in this house 😂😂

@FrancisCrawford
The perfect reply, thank you ☺
I was starting to regret starting this thread (despite adding 'Lighthearted').

Oh I know what you mean. I hate bright blue lights, but I prefer multi-coloured lights to plain. Why can't I buy "warm" multi-coloured lights? Can't you make LEDS that aren't so brash??? If you can, where do I buy them?

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 18/12/2017 09:36

I was only saying the same thing to dh last night when we were out walking the dog.

echt · 18/12/2017 10:51

I always buy solar lights and am sad that the soft white light is so hard to buy.

Iwanttobe8stoneagain · 18/12/2017 11:04

I don’t like them at all DH bought some and currently adorn our tree DS and DH love them. Can’t be arsed to change them this year but they might accidentally get packed in the bin.

mumof2sarah · 18/12/2017 11:18

Got to say I didn't mean to offend anyone with the I don't like them! I love Hanukkah blue lights as they're something special but I don't like the idea of them becoming a Christmas decoration, it's too bright to me for that.

I've also got to say that the OP did just seem to mean Xmas lights in blue and to make her feel uneasy for mentioning that is awful. I hope you all enjoy Hanukkah and Christmas, which ever you celebrate ❤️

Posters: "I don't like blue Christmas lights."

mathanxiety: "JEW HATERS."

Yeah, okay.

Zadig · 19/12/2017 20:26

Blue is not Christmassy - it's the emergency services.

happymummy12345 · 19/12/2017 20:28

I love bright multi coloured lights and trees.
My tree has a coloured set and a white set.
I could have them flashing but I don't like it, so they are always on static.

happymummy12345 · 19/12/2017 20:31

In fact, this is my tree. I love it.

DailyMail, that's not what I said, which was - insensitive and possibly ignorant, and definitely incapable of understanding irony.

Yes they are sold as 'blue Christmas lights'. But they are Hanukkah lights. I have noticed that many US traditions arrive in the UK with something significant lost in translation. This is one of them.

We're not fans either, though we have them up as my MIL bought them for us from adult BIL and it seemed wasteful to spend money on others.

I like warm glow yellow. Our neighbour has arranged hers so they look like dancing fire. They're lovely.
