I don't understand the hype about Yorkshire?

Is it just me to be fed up with continuous hype about Yorkshire?

TV programmes devoted to the county etc etc. I spent some time up there recently and feel the South West, where I'm from, has far more to offer.

The trouble with the Yorkshire people is that they think they are Northerners. The North of England lies beyond the Tees and is called Westmoreland, Cumberland, Northumberland and above all DURHAM, the Land of the Prince Bishops.

Yorkshire is just the up-market end of the Midlands.

Lexilooo · 09/12/2017 10:09

It's lovely, yes ... and if you look at it really hard, squinting a bit and in the right light, you'll find it's almost as lovely as Derbyshire

Shush don't tell everyone, or they'll all come and visit! The queues for the dovedale stepping stones are already getting like Alton Towers! 😂

Anyway Jane Austen said that of all the counties of England Derbyshire is the most beautiful and she has her picture on the ten pound note so take that people of Yorkshire 😋

Wilburissomepig · 09/12/2017 10:09

We'll be retiring to Yorkshire in a few years if we can. Bloody beautiful place.

jainaproudm · 09/12/2017 10:23

You've been to all of Yorkshire then, have you? Pretty big area, as it's effectively four counties in one area... It's also bloody beautiful. Stay in the south you goady witch

jainaproudm · 09/12/2017 10:26

Oh and I'm from Lancashire (RED ROSE

BarbaraofSevillle · 09/12/2017 10:28

I've been to the top of the Elmley Moor mast, from which you can see pretty much all of Yorkshire and beyond.

I've also got my own pet Yorkshireman, who I can shag whenever the hell I like.

Andrewofgg · 09/12/2017 10:32

From Lancashire? Sorry: there's no treatment for that. If there were there would be no Lancastrians, would there?

Great. I assume you're back down in the South West now where you're happy? We've got enough folk up here and we won't miss you Blush

Love Yorkshire, I find south west overly expensive.

ForTheLoveOfSleep · 09/12/2017 10:44

I'm from Devon and this is where I currently live. However, I spent several years living in Yorkshire (DP is from Sheffield) and can honestly say, beauty wise, the Yorkshire Moors in winter are absolutely without a doubt the most stunning thing I have ever been.
I miss living there and we visit several times a year.

Derwent, Derbyshire is also one of my favourite places. The North is just prettier.

StarkintheSouth · 09/12/2017 10:45

Yorkshire girl living down south here. Some
Parts of Yorkshire I miss so much. Some parts can definitely go in the sea tho. But I’m allowed to say that..!

jainaproudm · 09/12/2017 10:45

Oooooh @andrewofgg I'll only allow it as I'll be becoming a white rose immigrant some time soon and I've fallen in love with Jackson's bread...

stevie69 · 09/12/2017 10:47

Yorkshire is just the up-market end of the Midlands.

Absolutely not. I'm a White Rose princess and most definitely a northener Grin

flooredbored · 09/12/2017 10:49

@lexilooo Austen is on the ten pound note but behind her is a beautiful scenic view of Godmersham in Kent!Smile

LoniceraJaponica · 09/12/2017 10:56

Hello there fellow Yorkshire lovers.

I am also a Southerner who moved oop north to Yorkshire. I don't miss living in South London at all, or the commute to work. OH is from Northumberland so the only Yorkshire born person in our house is DD.

I love many parts of the UK and am particularly fond of Devon, Cornwall, Dorset, Wales, Northumberland, Shropshire, Norfolk, Scotland - in fact anywhere that we have holidayed.

We are fortunate enough to live in a village, but within easy access to the M1 and can get to several major cities in under an hour.

And we have Yorkshire Day on 1st August as well!

How many other counties have their own day?

LoniceraJaponica · 09/12/2017 10:57

Oh, and next year's Tour de Yorkshire is having one of the starts in Barnsley!

LoniceraJaponica · 09/12/2017 11:00

And it is passing within a mile of our house. So excited.

JacquesHammer · 09/12/2017 11:16

oh dear

DO forgive me for a poorly constructed sentence on a chat forum. Having been up most of the night in pain I wasn't attentive enough to MN. Dreadful.

Still. There's another addition to my near photographic memory of usernames and their posts, so thank you Grin

@stevie69 I am even more convinced we're the same person now Grin

Unnoticed · 09/12/2017 11:22

Yorkshire is beautiful; I say this as someone from Lancashire! The North York Moors are fantastic for a holiday - no queuing cars, no rip of car parks, lovely places to eat. Compared to Cornwall and the Lakes it’s bliss.

SlothMama · 09/12/2017 11:34

Good for you, I prefer Yorkshire to the South West, sure there's some pretty places but it's overpriced imo.

CandyMelts · 09/12/2017 11:40

I just realised I've only ever shagged Yorkshire men Shock

Born and bred here but spent 10 years away, and loved lots of other parts of the UK. I imagine if you're not from here the yorkshire pride is pretty annoying.

But on the other hand Yorkshire puddings are the best food ever so we may have a point.

However the so called "golden triangle" mean property prices are not all cheap where I am...

stevie69 · 09/12/2017 11:42

@JacquesHammer

Sorry to hear you haven't been feeling so great. This cold Yorkshire weather won't be helping you so wrap up warm, OK?

I didn't realise that you were here in Yorkshire, too Smile

You know what? We joke about being the same person and, the weird thing is—that you could actually be a colleague or someone I know. Unlikely, I know but it must happen sometimes; strange, this anonymous cyber world .....

Teake care and hope you're feeling better soon.

Pigflewpast · 09/12/2017 11:43

I don't think I've ever told anyone I'm from Yorkshire, I've told anyone who asks that I'm from Leeds. You know, that great big city with shops, roads and everything. We even have traffic jams, like down there in London.
But my school run is through gorgeous countryside, the only traffic jam on it is if the cows are crossing from milking, or when a young deer decided to walk slowly down the road.
We also play the Emley Moor mast game as a sign of being nearly home, have done since I were na but a nipper, despite it being t'other side of t'big afforementioned city now.

stevie69 · 09/12/2017 11:43

Oh, and sorry for the Yorkshire Airlines post. I didn't see that someone had already put it up.

That will teach me to RTFT Grin
