I don't understand the hype about Yorkshire?

Is it just me to be fed up with continuous hype about Yorkshire?

TV programmes devoted to the county etc etc. I spent some time up there recently and feel the South West, where I'm from, has far more to offer.

My sister and I used to work in Yorkshire, quite nice in parts but the people were exceptionally vile. Like, leave your job to get away from them vile. Ew.

I'm staying in Staithes at the moment - drove over the North York moors this afternoon - it was stunning and Yorkshire gold tea is the best tea ever.

guest477337 · 09/12/2017 02:19

It's God's country for a reason

SealSong · 09/12/2017 02:27

I had a superb day out at the Yorkshire Sculpturee Park today, there was snow on the ground first thing and blue skies; Yorkshire at its finest. Tomorrow I'm off to York overnight for some Christmas shopping and the Christmas market, then eating and drinking in some of the fabulous bars and restaurants there. Great stuff.

Yorkshire doesn't need hype when it's this good.

HoneyIshrunkthebiscuit · 09/12/2017 02:40

What tv programmes about Yorkshire???

Kerantli · 09/12/2017 02:49

Yorkshire lass born and bred here.
Don't see much hype about Yorkshire (but I do agree with a PP when they said "you never have to ask if someones from Yorkshire as they'll tell you")

I do however have a southerner DP (Bristol area) and play the whole "Spot Emley Moor Mast" when coming back when visiting the In-laws. I used to be able to see the mast from my bedroom window when younger, miss it a lot now I'm in Leeds! I also did do the whole "boo the red rose and cheer the white rose" thing when coming back from Blackpool recently.

However, there are some absolute dumps in Yorkshire, just like there are in the rest of the country.

earlybirdhasanap · 09/12/2017 07:40

Good. We'll keep our relatively cheap house prices and quiet roads. The more people that thinks it's rubbish the better in my view. Wink
Can't play the when to spot Emley moor mast game as we live right by it. We can always see it. Except the rare times we leave Yorkshire. Which is obviously about once a year because why would you leave Yorkshire?!

VivaLeBeaver · 09/12/2017 07:47

“Eh up cock”worked for me.

Married to the daft bugger now.

BrizzleDrizzle · 09/12/2017 07:49

I don't miss Yorkshire at all, miserable, cold and too unfriendly.

Mugshotzforlunch · 09/12/2017 07:57

If it's not from yorkshire it's shite!
What more is there to say Grin

twinone · 09/12/2017 08:02

Absolutely love some parts of Yorkshire. We've had many a wonderful holiday in Staithes.
If I drive my dd to school, the road goes into and out of Yorkshire (the Gisburn road). I only commented the other week that we were privileged to have such a view on the school run. It is truly stunning, though parts of Lancashire are too Wink

Deathraystare · 09/12/2017 08:05

It always amuses me when people will crow about being from Yorkshire. The chef James Martin will always go on and on and on about it. Apparently he is from ...Yorkshire. Did you know that??? Yeah, I have the impression that he is from ........Yorkshire!

Msqueen33 · 09/12/2017 08:06

I love Yorkshire (and I’m from the south). My last partner was from Yorkshire and I hoped I’d end up there but he left me for someone very far south and I’ve ended up back down south with a die hard southerner. Though my parents are here. But Yorkshire is beautiful.

SheffieldStealer · 09/12/2017 08:09

Yorkshire is God's country, yes. But Cumbria is where his actual holiday home is.

Wacadu · 09/12/2017 08:14

I live in Scotland which is beautiful, but I love Yorkshire. I also love Cumbria, Lancashire, Staffordshire, Norfolk - all wonderful places for lots of different reasons.

Each to their own. Maybe switch off your telly?

LoislovesStewie · 09/12/2017 08:15

I'm from the South West and now live in Yorkshire, personally I like both places.i'm from a small town and live in a small town now; the people are actually very similar. I used to look out at hills, now I look at the beach but I find both places to have friendly people .My stepmother( who was from Lancashire ) always said that people in the South West were nosy! I don't think so, just small town people! Not much happens and when it does it's huge news.I've lived all over the UK( including London) and honestly I think it's the same all over.

BlondeB83 · 09/12/2017 08:16

Yorkshire is stunningly beautiful. YABU

treaclesoda · 09/12/2017 08:19

I can see by the fact that the OP never returned that she was clearly on the up.

But I'll just chip in anyway. I'm not even from England, I'm from N Ireland, and even I know how fantastic Yorkshire is. I've visited several times and I've only managed to see about a tenth of it.

Mind you, I've also been blown away by how fantastic the Peak District is, and how beautiful North Wales is. There are a lot of really fantastic places in the UK.

DigitalGhost · 09/12/2017 08:22

@BizzleDrizzle UNFRIENDLY?! Where did you go? I can't even leave my house without 20 people saying hello to me.

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 09/12/2017 08:24

Kent is the garden of England. Just saying Smile

DeloresJaneUmbridge · 09/12/2017 08:27

I'm in the over populated south east. I bloody love Yorkshire ...been a few times. If my life here was not so established I would quite happily move up there. Beautiful place.

DeloresJaneUmbridge · 09/12/2017 08:28

Was the OP a plant from the Yorkshire Tourist Board trying to get a bit of free boosting for her area with a goady post. Grin

Creambun2 · 09/12/2017 08:29

Many places in Yorkshire are rough.

BrizzleDrizzle · 09/12/2017 08:29

A small village in the dales where you were ignored unless 20generations of your family were from there. Gave up, sold the house and moved back here after 10 years.

MelanieCheeks · 09/12/2017 08:32

Hale and pace Yorkshire airways sketch.....let me see if it's on t'YouTube.
