I don't understand the hype about Yorkshire?

Is it just me to be fed up with continuous hype about Yorkshire?

TV programmes devoted to the county etc etc. I spent some time up there recently and feel the South West, where I'm from, has far more to offer.

It's not a golden triangle but I was right, there is a rhubarb triangle en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhubarb_Triangle

ginplease8383 · 09/12/2017 15:31

@grimeofthecentury Why is that? Why is it more depressing than other parts? I'm genuinely interested.

LoniceraJaponica · 09/12/2017 15:32

I love the South West, but I don't live there and don't need to find a job/fund a mortgage there.

Lizzylou · 09/12/2017 15:43

Yorkshire is in the most part beautiful, but as has been mentioned it is huge. We spent many lovely holidays around N Yorks when the DC were younger, lovely.
We live in Lancashire and there are lots of beautiful places here too. The UK is a very beautiful country in parts. Just cold and wet.

They eat cheese and fruit cake in Yorkshire, which is just genius.

SuddenBeetE · 09/12/2017 15:48

Ah lovely lovely Yorkshire.

Well, not you South Yorkshire.

Not like London is hyped up much at all, is it OP? Confused

lovemylover · 09/12/2017 15:49

Best fish and chips ever, in Scarborough and Whitby, anywhere on the east coast in fact

LoniceraJaponica · 09/12/2017 16:06

"Well, not you South Yorkshire."

Why not? I live in a rather pretty part of South Yorkshire. This is the view a few yards from my house.

I don't understand the hype about Yorkshire?

South Yorkshire? Where Sheffield is? To me always the epicentre of Yorkshire. York and Harrogate too touristy and up themselves. Leeds -well see Leeds United Comments. Hull-flat. Sheffield is lovely.(though not what is was)
Yes I'm from Sheffield.

PumpkinSquash · 09/12/2017 16:33

Has no one mentioned how ugly and flat East Yorkshire is though?

What, all of it? Confused There's some lovely parts of East Yorkshire too.
Beverly, for example.

ThaiRedCurry · 09/12/2017 16:35

Yorkshire is God’s country!

VanillaMincePie · 09/12/2017 16:38

The Wolds, Bempton Rocks, the lovely villages near Burton Agnes..... yeah, East Yorkshire is awful. Xmas Hmm

Lizzie48 · 09/12/2017 16:40

Over-hyped??? The Yorkshire Dales and the North York Moors, and fish and chips?? What rot! And what do you mean by hype anyway??

TheWitchAndTrevor · 09/12/2017 16:42

The East Yorkshire coast is where you find all the comforts in summer Xmas WinkXmas Grin

PumpkinSquash · 09/12/2017 16:45

Some brilliant place names in East Yorkshire too. My favourite's the Land of Nod. Grin
Always makes me smile when we pass the sign to the Land of Nod on the way to the seaside! Smile

IfNot · 09/12/2017 16:51

Yanb entirely U.
Yes, there are some lovely bits of Yorkshire, but interestingly none of the many tv programmes are set in Rotherham. Or Dewsbury. There are places in Yorkshire that would turn your soul to soot if you spent any length of time in them.
Dorset and Devon are very lovely.. Although I have always found the people remarkably unfriendly in the South West so there is that.

cricketqueen · 09/12/2017 16:52

I grew up in Yorkshire, currently living in Wales. I miss my small Yorkshire village, love phoning my mum up and hearing the local gossip. Like anywhere there are nice bits and bad bits. It's just in Yorkshire the nice bits are extraordinary. And the bad bits well we like to just ignore them, I mean my DH is from Halifax but I don't hold it against him.

MrsGrindah · 09/12/2017 16:53

I am from Yorkshire and I don’t agree that it’s the first thing we tell people. I am from Yorkshire and think Leeds is waaaay better than Manchester, but then again, I am from Yorkshire so would say that. As someone who was born in Yorkshire and still lives there I love it.Was sooo proud when the Tour de France started there and luckily, because I was born and bred in Yorkshire and still live there, I got to see it.
P. S I am from Yorkshire.

Farrar · 09/12/2017 16:53

Did you visit the whole of Yorkshire.. I doubt it.

Yorkshire is in a word, stunning. Beyond that, it's people are the friendliest you'll ever find.

If you don't like it, stick with the South East, Yorkshire's tourism does well enough.

Farrar · 09/12/2017 16:55

Plus.. house prices in the North 👌🏼
