I started listing these in a "things that annoy you" thread and I thought of so many I thought I'd make my own.

Soaps. I can watch them and be entertained by them but the characters stupidity and predictability in the storylines annoy me sometimes! Let me count the ways:

  1. Most people, when having a secret conversation, try to keep things discreet like "don't mention what I told you earlier, ok"? Not in soapland. It's "don't tell anyone that I slept with my ex husband in his new wife's bed last month and now I'm pregnant with his child, ok?" Cut to new wife hiding behind door, listening to everything, plotting revenge.
  1. Character claims to be poor and jobless and they are depressed. Next thing you know they're in the bloody pub or at the cafe having some tea and cake. Thought you were skint!?
  1. "Have it on the house". I must say I'd love to know where all these friendly freebie-giving establishments are in real life because the only time I've been offered something for free is when I've had a bottle of wine accidentally knocked over me by the waiter. Staff in soap land are always giving stuff away free, even when they've only worked there five minutes!
  1. So self-absorbed. (Think of Janine in EastEnders for this scenario). How come is it that she can set someone up for a crime and they are ranting and raving in the Queen Vic as the police bustle them out, screaming abuse at Janine and not one person sees that sly, evil look she always gives and think it suspicious? Also, whilst we're on the subject of Janine (and other baddies) why is it that when someone has seemingly pulled off a crime that is completely out of character for them, and they are blaming Janine, nobody stops to think "Hang on a minute, maybe this character is telling the truth and it actually is Janine, the woman who says and does bitchy and nasty things on a daily basis"?
  1. Characters just "decide" they are going to move to America or Australia. Erm, no, you cannot just do that, it takes ages to sort out! And when they do move their whole life fits into one suitcase.
  1. "I've got something really important to tell you. Meet me at the pub later". Two things: One: Which pub? What time? Two: Er, no, this really important thing is not waiting until we're at the pub later, you will tell me this instant"!

Please add your own and yes this is lighthearted.

When theres a really cute couple and they ruin it.

.

Spangles1963 · 08/12/2017 18:45

No one EVER does a stroke of housework, yet their houses always look immaculate, never any paperwork, magazines or newspapers lying around. It's so unrealistic.

Spangles1963 · 08/12/2017 18:47

And when someone DOES actually do any housework,a really big thing is made out of it. Yes Mick Carter I'm looking at you

Spangles1963 · 08/12/2017 18:59

Anyone who is a reallly nasty character to begin with always ends up being a really nice person. Billy Mitchell

Spangles1963 · 08/12/2017 19:02

Littlebatcatcalledlucile What? There's no launderette in EastEnders any more?! Shows how long since I watched it!

LittleLionMansMummy · 08/12/2017 19:07

I hate the way the police and criminal justice system are portrayed. Ok, it isn't perfect irl but it's so different to the way soaps portray it (I.e absolutely no empathy or understanding and ability to use professional judgement by police officers, arresting and prosecuting innocent people with no hard evidence). Sorry to go all serious but it does a huge disservice to those who work in this environment. And I say this as a huge Corrie fan.

LittleLionMansMummy · 08/12/2017 19:08

Oh and failure by police to act on clear evidence too - such as in Bethany Platt's case.

Akire · 08/12/2017 19:09

Corrie- about 95% of the kids have had one parent/step parent, mums long term partner die/get murdered. Often one parent and a new partner

Yet when a teen goes off rails because of said death, none of the other kids or teens say anything. They all just look suprised. This week potential another child left fatherless plus an unborn one, it’s ridiculous.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 08/12/2017 19:47

OMG. Garys back

Tastesjustlikecherrycola85 · 08/12/2017 20:26

That no one in Eastenders owned a washing machine prior to the launderette closing

MandaraSugar · 08/12/2017 20:31

This thread has had me crying with laughter, hats off to you OP for starting it!

  1. When people are rowing they never shout over each other. One party says their piece, the other says theirs, the other says a line, so on and so on. Wish every time I had a row I was allowed to say my bit without interruption 🤐
  2. Some of the child acting is painful to watch. Child’s mother dies unexpectedly, child later runs into living room to say “I miss mummy” to adult relatives, as flat as you like, runs out again, devoid of any emotion 😐
  3. Anyone goes off to uni and the rest of the street/village thinks they’re Einstein 📗
  4. An ‘old mate’ just turns up on the doorstep and 5 mins later is down the pub and a fully fledged member of the community, next week their “dark secret” starts to unravel... 🙄

Kissing noises makes me want to barf

Imsorrynow · 08/12/2017 20:39

Sharon in Eastenders tottering about in the house in her stilettos and not comfy slippers - why?

ILoveMillhousesDad · 08/12/2017 20:42

Nrtft sorry, but am arguement happens and the jukebox automatically turn quiet.

The way EVERYONE has each others mobile phone number. I mean, why???

And if the all have each others mobile, why do they send a text that says

'Meet me at the park.

Phil'

Who puts their OWN NAME AT THE END OF A TEXT 🤔

EvilDoctorBallerinaRoastDuck · 08/12/2017 20:48

everyone seems amazingly fertile and can get pregnant after only one dalliance

To be fair, that's me. Xmas Blush

EvilDoctorBallerinaRoastDuck · 08/12/2017 21:01

I have a friend who works in a launderette. She got very cross when Dot lit up at work after the smoking ban. Xmas Grin

HandbagCrazy · 08/12/2017 21:11

When characters move away and you're supposed to forget about them because they don't come back for big events - like Emmerdale. Moira got married, buried a daughter, lost a brother in law etc and her other daughter never came home.
Neighbours - steph has been mentally unwell, lost children, moved away, came back, bought a business - no mention of her sisters AT ALL! Angry

LittleLionMansMummy · 08/12/2017 21:14

Izzie got over Katie's death quickly didn't she?!

HandbagCrazy · 08/12/2017 21:15

Oh and mobile phone contacts. Who has their friends full names in their phone? If you see a characters phone, it's always to call Phil Mitchell / Ian Beale, never just Shazza or Dot.

No one ever goes on holiday - they either go nowhere or move away. Why? Surely most people would go on a weekend break or somewhere sunny for a week or 2?

woodhill · 08/12/2017 21:17

Re:Sharron - Mind you remember Rebecca from Neighbours doing the washing in a wrap dress and stilettos and ditto Therese

MooChops89 · 08/12/2017 21:21

Misunderstandings that occur because people get interrupted before they can tell people things, and drag along for weeks.

And how every single event - wedding reception, wake, birthday - is held in the local pub!

DownstairsMixUp · 08/12/2017 21:24

Someone gets found out they have murdered someone and arrested, trial and sentence is literally the next week. Grin

DownstairsMixUp · 08/12/2017 21:29

Also yy to the portrayal of nurses in particular. Hollyoaks, them nurses outfits are ridiculous! Also what nurses are they? Child? Adult? Mental Health? They seem to do any sort and are more qualified than a bloody doctor!
