I usually don't eat much chocolate, but really enjoy nibbling demolishing the tubs of chocolates that come out at Christmas. But now they're all swimming in Palm oil

YANBU I've always enjoyed a tub of Christmas chocs. DH won some recently and they were extremely inferior!

Oh no! Which brand of chocolates specifically? I can't be wasting money on non-chocolate that parades as real chocolate

DS was saying this morning that his Cadbury choc calendar leaves an aftertaste in his mouth that lasts an hour or so. I bought DH a Divine Fairtrade one and wish now I'd got them all that as the choc is much nicer than Cadburys!

It's ruined. And chocolate oranges are smaller. ruined and toblerones are smaller. ruined and we're expected to carry on as if Christmas is still the same. Well it's not. Won't someone think of Christmas????

They all seem to have been changed, roses, quality street, celebrations, heroes... all .

Dh suggested I use it as a way to help kick start my planned new year post-baby weight loss. He thinks he's hilarious as he actually likes the new versions. Ignorant heathen!

It's wagon wheels and curly Wurleys for me. Smaller by a country mile. And Christmas selection boxes. Used to be ENORMOUS when I was a kid.

Virtually all chocolates have palm oil. It's very annoying. Thorntons taste like shit crap no clue now. Even Godiva and Hotel Chocolat. It's a crime, I tell you, a crime.

Nousername that's a great site, I didn't realise it existed. Unfortunately no waitrose here though, maybe I'll have to start the health kick early after all and amuse myself by grumbling constantly about how things were much better "in my day" (I'm only in my 30s!)

This ruination of all things chocolate is very disturbing news.

It is another big hint that 2018 may be the year of going sugar free. (And beating the diet coke addiction too). In a sick and twisted way people might stay healthier if all chocolate becomes too vile to actually eat - it could be a good thing for the old waistline! Following my lunch of actual real food I have just sat and munched a chocolate shortbread slice and precisely 75 grams of Tesco milk chocolate. I am disgusting

We buy our chocolate in Aldi now...Moser Roth, and it's so much nicer than Cadburys.

Charbonnel doesn't use palm oil. Costs a fucking fortune, but worth it. No slimy texture. No deforestation.

It is becoming very hard to find chocolate that isn't all greasy-palm-oil-foul-tasting-blech!

We also buy Aldis and DH likes finding others, he hates the palm oil flavour even more than I do, if that could be possible.

I fear we will run out of 'proper' chocolate before I die, as kids these days know no different and all chocolate manufacturers make the switch to nasty cheap ingredients - without changing the recipe, of course!!

I haven't noticed this oily texture thing everyone complains about. They all taste nice to me. This must mean I have no taste or standards.

If anyone is around the Midlands, chocolate utopia in Nottingham is amazing... Think they do web delivery now but not 100% sure.
Their shop also does hot chocolate that is basically melted chocolate mixed with hot milk topped with whipped cream, drink of the gods! (Although I have without the cream- too sickly with!)

There's a hot chocolate recipe bouncing around Pinterest which is made up of...

• full fat milk
• cream
• condensed milk
• dark chocolate drops
• optional glug of booze

What about ones like Leonidas? Do they suffer the palm oil issue too?

I bought some truffles in M&S which were half price. Don't know what they taste like yet though. I sometimes treat myself to Amelia rope chocolate at Christmas which is expensive but best chocolate ever IMHO. And Beech's coffee creams mentioned on another thread. And the orange creams, peppermint creams and so on. But intending to cut down on sweet stuff this year.

Home made from raw cacao is lovely and simple to make.

We opened quality street, usually my favourite, but they were vile.
We have a tub of Roses, but think these will be eaten by the kids.
Such a shame our favorites have been ruined.
They are idiots as well, because if they used the original recipe and flavours, along with the larger tins, they'd make so much more profit over xmas.
I'd love to buy a huge original tin of either Roses or QS.
