I don't like the tree

Most years we go together as a family to pick the tree. This year DH suggested as we had a few things on and he had sometime off work he would get it himself.

I don't like it at all. It is slightly shorter but much much narrower than any tree we have ever had. When it was delivered my reaction wasn't great. I looked at it and said "it is very small"
DH is taking it very personally and was very upset with me which I was really surprised about. We have made up since but I still don't like the tree.

For context, I work part time and do 95% of the Christmas organising so I may be used to doing things a certain way.

I really still want to get another tree. AIBU

sorry for pityparty Xmas Shock
You are allowed to hate your tree and insist on another, obvs Xmas Blush

Clovertoast · 07/12/2017 10:22

It's a tree.
First world problems.
Get a grip pleasw.

Mars100 · 07/12/2017 10:22

Hilarious that posters are suggesting the OP's DH has feelings attached to this tree. That he'll be hurt if she gets a different one.

Ifailed · 07/12/2017 10:24

Maybe OP could get an artificial "tree" of the correct dimensions that will satisfy her?

Nyx1 · 07/12/2017 10:26

is there an annual Margo Leadbetter (sp?) prize? Some serious contenders around atm.

CiderwithBuda · 07/12/2017 10:26

Why are people on here so bloody nasty sometimes?

He knows the type of tree they normally get. He presumably knows the size roughly. So why buy a small narrow crappy tree? More than likely because he just grabbed the first one he saw.

So the OP is perfectly entitled to be disappointed. And not like the tree. They are her feelings and they are valid.

OP - could you use the smaller tree in another room and buy a bigger one? I would be disappointed too.

roomsonfire · 07/12/2017 10:27

My sister gets shitty if someone touches the decorations on her tree and they aren't perfect. Dont be her OP. It makes xmas a miserable affair.

You cannot control every little thing in life. If the tree is too short go crazy and make a big star for the top. Little narrower? go mad with baubles.

honestly. Get a grip, love. Its a tree and there are more stressful things that are going to happen over xmas. Inlaws, extended family, oven failures (mine broke last year on boxing day!!) wrong gifts... the tree is the least of your worries!

Hmm

I think it's perfectly ok to say a tree is too small. I find it OTT that he was upset. It's perfectly reasonable to expect an adult to be able to by a decent tree that would fit the existing decorations on it.

A few years ago my dad once came back with a crap tree and my mum told him to go and buy another one.

I don't really understand the infantilisation of men that means they can't be expected to select appropriate items in shops.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 07/12/2017 10:36

Why are people on here so bloody nasty sometimes?

I don’t know. Maybe it makes them feel better about themselves. It’s obvious the OP is upset and saying crap like “ first world problem “ isn’t going to help.

RidingWindhorses · 07/12/2017 10:37

Getting grief as a thank you? Why should he be thanked for going out and choosing a tree? And why couldn’t he have put his brain in gear and get one similar to the previous years? To me it says that he saw the first one and thought it would do!

This.

Clandestino · 07/12/2017 10:38

Massively and totally BU. Seriously. The shape of the tree is wrong, Christmas just got destroyed.

RidingWindhorses · 07/12/2017 10:43

Except she didn't say Christmas was destroyed or anything close, she just said she doesn't like it and wants to get another one.

Personally I would get another one.

FiFiLaPoodle · 07/12/2017 10:43

@TheEyesDontHaveIt

Have you also said "it's very small" to your DH about something else?

WTF? Why say that? Confused

I think the OP does need to suck it up though, and from her posts, I am under the impression that she likes to take over at Christmas. Put this down to experience OP, and make sure you choose TOGETHER next year!

And ignore the typical 'ooh I wish I had YOUR problems' posts, and the people playing 'I have a worse life than you' bingo. They are on every thread. Many problems are trivial, but not to the person who is bothered by their problem.

Jaxhog · 07/12/2017 10:50

He tried to help and the first thing you do is criticise. So it isn't what you wanted, get over it, it's just a tree!

NataliaOsipova · 07/12/2017 10:53

So DH has a short narrow one, but OP prefers a longer, thicker one?

😂😂😂😂

In fairness, OP, I get you. (I am a bit of a control freak and I would be pissed off too!). But - others are right. It's a tree, it's up for a few weeks and it really isn't worth rocking your relationship for.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 07/12/2017 10:54

He tried to help? And? Does that mean the OP mustn’t say anything because he went out and bought the tree?

beargryllshasabigrope · 07/12/2017 10:55

It’s just a tree. It’ll be gone soon

nannybeach · 07/12/2017 10:55

Yes, its just a tree, I had a serious job persuding my DH to get a real tree this year, we usually have a small artifical one, but he is just the opposite, when he goes shopping, for a tree or any other plant, inspecting, comparing, umming an ahhing dries me nuts, i am, just like pick a bloody tree!

Walkerbean16 · 07/12/2017 11:12

I'll swap you OP. We usually go get one too but my hisband is working late every night so i got one delivered. Its GINORMOUS. Oops.

Walkerbean16 · 07/12/2017 11:15

Scuse the mess. It's ridiculously big. Help!

I don't like the tree
OpalTree · 07/12/2017 11:20

Hee hee. Loving the innuendo posts Grin

OpalTree · 07/12/2017 11:21

I like that tree walker

OpalTree · 07/12/2017 11:22

Walker's one is long, firm and plump. That would satisfy anyone

TinklyLittleLaugh · 07/12/2017 11:24

That's a fine tree Walker
