To be disappointed/peed off with CBeebies?

ButterfliesAreWeird · 04/12/2017 20:07

Today I bought my son the monthly CBeebies magazine and this was smack bang in the middle of it. It was supposed to be about doctors but this is just promoting cancer, heart disease, diabetes, ect. I'm no vegan but I know when I'm sitting there eating a cheese and egg sandwich that it's not good for me, yet this is stating it's vital to have 2 unhealthy groups of food each day to be healthy. This gos against the NHS, the WHO, and just science in general. I would have expected this 10 years ago but it's 2017 and we know better.

To be disappointed/peed off with CBeebies?

Well I've been say in the corner all night and still the OP has not returned, I wonder if something happened after she ate her gross sandwich.

But here is your song @miaowthecat

Bodicea · 05/12/2017 11:44

Actually the plate needs to be redrawn with meat and good fats and veg being a much higher proportion and carbs reduced. Loads of research on it. There are people campaigning to get it altered.

SittingAround1 · 05/12/2017 12:01

I can confirm that cheese in scrambled egg is tasty. But you need the right cheese. It has to be one that melts properly, I've found cheddar or mozzarella the best.

I'll go find some peer reviewed studies to prove it.

NCforthis12345 · 05/12/2017 12:27

I am not biased when I say this because I eat all of those food groups, but after watching a couple of documentaries I can see the OP's point.

OP probably isn't coming back because she/he has probably realised that there is no way she can make others see her view. At all.

I think before people mock and get offended they should watch a couple of documentaries available on Netflix.

What the Health.
Vegucated.

I believe Forks over Knives is rather informative also.

It is a big eye opener!

And providing we are eating enough of the whole grain and plant based foods then we ARE meeting all of our nutritional needs. Although I can imagine it is very difficult to get DC to consume enough of those foods and therefore eggs, cheese etc. is possibly a quicker way to meet those needs.

I have pulled a grip out of my up do for you OP!

EvilDoctorBallerinaRoastDuck · 05/12/2017 12:48

Bodicea the last time I looked up carbs for children on the government website, they were advising 50 - 60% carbs a day. That was a few weeks ago. Xmas Confused

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 05/12/2017 12:59

But Netflix documentaries tend not to be peer reviewed IME.

I’d be surprised if many of them involve a systematic trawling of all the available data alongside a qualitative analysis of the quality of the studies and their limitations.

HermionesRightHook · 05/12/2017 13:05

But @NCforthis12345 we were promised academia, not Netflix! Because actual science is more reliable than really enthusiastic vegans.

pinkblink · 05/12/2017 13:16

If you're getting your knickers in such a twist about these foods why are you eating a cancer sandwich? Hmm

foolonthehill · 05/12/2017 13:31

I am still trying to work out how to get 1300mg per day of plant based calcium into a child when a cup of kale has less than 100mg............................................Envy...me after more than13 cups of kale

bettydraper31 · 05/12/2017 13:34

I just tried an egg and cheese sandwich. It was epic. Thank OP 👌

SimultaneousEquation · 05/12/2017 13:35

U ok hun?

bettydraper31 · 05/12/2017 13:48

Who, me?

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 05/12/2017 13:53

The brain is at least 60% fat - and children need fat to build their brains.

A healthy diet for an adult and a healthy diet for a child are different, and children should not be having lots of low fat products.

Cagliostro · 05/12/2017 13:54

Signing in. Bring on the science!

jainaproudm · 05/12/2017 14:22

I watched What the Health and, while it's true that the meat and dairy industries are pretty horrible morally (and also for the environment), it was also wildly, obviously biased, made insane sweeping statements, and smelt a lot like fearmongering to me.

PelvicFloorClenchReminder · 05/12/2017 16:27

I expect Bing said that cheese and egg sandwiches were pooey and then Sula agreed they were well bad and they flushed them all down the toilet so Flop would make carroty bagels instead. That counts as a legit peer reviewed study.

WellThisIsShit · 05/12/2017 16:40

Boo, no articles? Disappointing thread!

Atenco · 05/12/2017 16:48

And providing we are eating enough of the whole grain and plant based foods then we ARE meeting all of our nutritional needs

If you are following a vegan diet, please remember that you need to supplement with Vitamin B.

squishysquirmy · 05/12/2017 16:53

11 pages and still no peer reveiwed studies?
It is not healthy for children to eat the kind of food an adult trying to lose weight eats.

On octonauts, fish biscuits and kelp cakes seems to provide all the nutrition needed by every species. Probably vegan too.

Kewcumber · 05/12/2017 17:55

Is peer-reviewed Netflix a thing now?

Actually I would be prepared to change my mind with the right evidence. Preferably not from Netflix or Amazon Prime or Youtube.

outputgap · 05/12/2017 17:59

Tubby custard is still ok though, right?

gingergenius · 05/12/2017 18:05

And tubby toast @outputgap
