OK, I have a question about "Slide me, Homeslice!" Is the proffered hand simply horizontal, palm up or upright like a high five?

Coconutspongexo · 04/12/2017 17:02

He’s a comedian Soup

crunched · 04/12/2017 17:03

Being in the Midlands, the favourite way my DD dismisses me is by using the charming phrase "0121,do one" ...bless
And ugly things are "butters".
Well, fairs

SoupDragon · 04/12/2017 17:06

Thank goodness for that! I had a feeling I thought wasn't real (especially having googled the lyrics) but couldn't be sure :)

It's horizontal, palm up. You slap (slide) their hand then upturn yours to receive a reciprocal move. I'm sure there's a name for it but damned if I can think what it is! Other than "slide", of course...

LemonadeWithACherry · 04/12/2017 17:20

I linked to Man's Not Hot upthread you pussies. - sucks teeth -

SoupDragon · 04/12/2017 17:22

Marvellous! I wouldn't want to mix my slide with my high five. I'd look like a total idiot.

Coconutspongexo · 04/12/2017 17:24

Kmt you mean lemonde

LemonadeWithACherry · 04/12/2017 17:27
  • Glares menacingly at Dipping -

Nobody arksed you cuz.

Highmaintenancefemalestuff · 04/12/2017 17:32

This thread is making me howl. My children are 5 and 16 months so not using this language just yet however, the 16 month old does do the 'pop pop pop' ECT from man's not hot.
I do hear it from kids on the street, we live in Cheshire.

simiisme · 04/12/2017 17:38

NightRaven - Amazing! Yes, do this. She'll cringe if you do it in front of her friends.

Alidoll · 04/12/2017 17:41

Or when her friends arrive at her house make sure you’re wearing a onesie with big slippers and hair in rollers with a hairnet.

THAT should do it!

Coconutspongexo · 04/12/2017 17:42

Allow it sis allow it

calamityjam · 04/12/2017 17:46

Yes we have mans not hot here too. Dd and ds10 just regaled me with the full version complete with the mandatory skyaaa popopop!

Nyx1 · 04/12/2017 17:53

aw, homeslice is so lovely!

LisaMed1 · 04/12/2017 17:53

What does fam mean?

DS is still in primary, and I can keep up with what he and his pals say, but him and his pals were all born in West Yorkshire and I still speak fluent Scouse.

I don't hold with embarrassing your children on the whole, but sometimes it's a mother's duty

formerbabe · 04/12/2017 17:54

What does fam mean?

Short for family but seems to be extended for good friends who are like family!

KathyBeale · 04/12/2017 18:01

I LOVE this. Like others have said, I think it's really clever to talk differently depending on who you're with.

Halal ting is awesome. We used to say things were kosher, back in the day. I'm in Sarf Lahndahn, too.

Does anyone remember when the Scottish relay team won a swimming gold medal at the Commonwealth Games and they were interviewed on R4. They kept saying it was sick, and afterwards, John Humphreys had to translate and explain they meant it was good. It really made me laugh.

LolaTheDarkdestroyer · 04/12/2017 18:13

I'm "peak" if I say no to something..son and his friends call each other "g" on every message Grin

MrsPinkCock · 04/12/2017 18:14

Oh dear god, I have four of these.

“Yeah fam” and “nah mate” is the extent of the conversation I get from most of them.

AtlanticWaves · 04/12/2017 18:19

We're in France so I've got this to look forward to in French...

As it is, DH and I found it really funny when 4 year old DS1 came out of school saying "salut mec" to his friends (roughly translated as "yo guys" though usually used by much older teens/adults)

He has slang for "that's easy" (fastoche instead of facile) and "I can do it" (je suis cap - i.e. I am capable)

4 year old slang is easy. Not sure what the teenage years will bring!

SoupDragon · 04/12/2017 18:29

I'd not really given any thought to there being equivalent in foreign languages. :o

Footle · 04/12/2017 18:40

AtlanticWaves - a lot of back-to-frontery, eg zarbi instead of bizarre etc etc.

JonSnowsWife · 04/12/2017 18:46

Nah mate.

Apparently Stormzy does NOT sound like Beaker from The Muppet Show.
