to be fed up of people telling me how dangerous......

riding a motorbike is. I am aware of the dangers and risks. I came off a few weeks ago during a lesson and i was ok because of the gear I wear. Since then all people tell me is how dangerous it is and how selfish I am when I have kids.

If finally found something I love to do and I bought a little 125 to gain experience and confidence before I go to try for my full license again.

I wrote my first car off and was told not to give up and the best thing I could do was get straight back out before the fear took hold. I hurt myself more in the car than I did on the bike

And money would help my kids if I died how? Would it take away the pain? Would it make them feel better? How would money help?

You are incredibly stupid.

MissMustBeAMug · 02/12/2017 19:40

Jesus fecking wept.

It’s a lot easier to get over your idiot mother dying if you have the security that comes with a lump sum of money (to replace the money they’d lose by you not being here to earn it)

You know, money, that thing that keeps them warm, houses, fed, well supplied for school. All that jazz.

This must be a wind up, no way has anyone let you be in charge of a piece of machinery.

Ermm · 02/12/2017 19:41

Well think of all the things that you do and provide for your children now and then think about how much it would cost for all those things to be done and provided for if you are dead or maimed and then realise there is a gap and that if you dont have life insurance your children would suffer.

but are you seriously asking?

MatildaTheCat · 02/12/2017 19:42

Well money would help in that it pays for childcare, food, education and other crap like that.

I imagine the reason people say this is because so many of us know people, mostly young people, who have died in motorbike accidents.

But it doesn’t sound as if that will happen to you since you are so clever. Hmm

MaidenMotherCrone · 02/12/2017 19:44

I was just quietly reading all the posts and then I got to this

m unsure what life insurance would even do for me or my family. Genuinely i dont. Dont have a will either because I cant see a need for one.

People keep telling you how dangerous it is because they know you are not very bright!

deepestdarkestperu · 02/12/2017 19:47

I don't know - it would stop them becoming homeless or starving because their parent has died?

Fucksake.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 02/12/2017 19:47

Oh. This thread is an attention-seeking ego boost for you, OP. As you were then. Knock yourself out, do what you want.

I hope your kids have support from other sources because you are definitely not that. Just very, very self-absorbed.

EvilRingahBitch · 02/12/2017 19:50

The danger with pushbikes is other road users driving in an inconsiderate way. Motorbikes have all that danger but are also entirely capable of killing you off their own bat. Scary numbers of motorcycle riders die in single vehicle accidents. Everybody is human, everybody makes momentary slips of concentration and judgment, and on a motorbike those tiny lapses can kill far too easily.

winglesspegasus · 02/12/2017 19:50

ridingsafely.com/ridingsafely1.html
the people who say they are dangerous are probably the ones you should avoid driving around was a somewhat tongue in check comment
i say somewhat as i go down the road watching some nit on their cell phone, talking to the passengers or playing really loud music and paying no attention to the road or whats on it.
classic line at mc accident i didnt see them, granted some vehicles have blind spots but it is THe answer when someone slams into a rider.of course you didnt see them you were too busy doing everything but driving(my personal freak was the one putting on make up)

starshaker · 02/12/2017 19:50

Seriously fuck right off. Im not stupid, I KNOW THE RISKS. The bigger risk is if I dont have something to do that makes me want to leave the house. That makes me smile. That stops me thinking about how much I want to kill myself. Me staying at home all day everyday is soul destroying. I dont work because I cannot cope with it. I have anxiety, depression, ptsd and agoraphobia. Having my bike has meant I can leave the house.

I dont have life insurance because I dont have a mortgage and if I did die I dont know what would happen to my kids. Being on the bike is risky but living the way I was was a sure fire way for me to end up in a box. I dont have a will because I have nothing to leave to anybody.

borntobequiet · 02/12/2017 19:51

I wouldn't give you any advice on the grounds that you would be too stupid and selfish to take any notice.

borntobequiet · 02/12/2017 19:53

Especially after your last post. Get help, not a bike.

starshaker · 02/12/2017 19:54

Ive had all the help they can give me. Get cbt and other therapy, it doesn't work. My bike does

Killdora · 02/12/2017 19:55
Hmm

Well here’s an idea, gets some fucking life insurance and whatever happens to your kids it will be a hell of a lot better than what would happen currently.

You are selfish and need to grow up. Flounce about all you like but the very, very least you can do for your poor dc is sort out some bloody life insurance.

SunnySkiesSleepsintheMorning · 02/12/2017 19:59

Statistically, you are more likely to die but I’d have said YANBU as it's your choice, as long as you’ve made provisions for your family. However, you haven’t which is selfish and irresponsible, bike or no bike.

Ermm · 02/12/2017 20:00

Having significant mental health issues does not mean it is okay to knowingly take such a risk with implications for your children. It does not absolve you of responsibility.

SunnySkiesSleepsintheMorning · 02/12/2017 20:00

Sorry, we cross posted. You clearly aren’t well, I’m sorry.

frogsoup · 02/12/2017 20:00

My dad used to ride a motorbike to work every day (40 mins drive). He was (and is) an extremely cautious driver. He'd still come off approximately once a year. He was never very seriously injured (though enough to put him in hospital a few times), but through sheer luck, not judgement. There were some bloody idiot car drivers, and when it's icy or wet 2 wheels at 60mph are, well, quite dicey. He got cold feet after I was about 9 or 10 and decided he valued staying to watch me grow up over riding. I'd prefer one of my kids to join the conservative party than ride a motorbike, and I'm telling you, that's saying something.

1DAD2KIDS · 02/12/2017 20:01

A lot depends how you ride. It's your choice, tell them to get stuffed.

My Grandad nearly lost his leg in the late 1940s in a motorcycle accident. His leg was save by a scruffy (Grandma's words) woman doctor who Grandma said had got her experiance during the war. Others advised it be cut off but, couldn't be saved as it was smashed up. But this doctor seemed comfident and my grandad was a young working man so gave her a try. He kept his leg and my Grandma banned him from motorcycles for life (my Grandma was a fearsome and pigheaded Yorkshire woman when she put her foot down).

frogsoup · 02/12/2017 20:01

If you need an exciting hobby to help your mental health, there are surely other options!!!

BrizzleDrizzle · 02/12/2017 20:02

They are right, it is very dangerous. it's one of the (many) things I wouldn't do now I have children - sky diving, bungee jumping I wouldn't have done those anyway because I'm a coward and riding a motorbike.

Nottheduchessofcambridge · 02/12/2017 20:03

I love love love my bike, I think bikers are very very aware of how dangerous it is and no, we don’t need constantly telling. I have two children and I am overly aware of every vehicle around me at any time. Apart from the twatty bikers out there, most accidents are caused by car drivers not looking out for bikes. I definitely think there should be more biker awareness questions in the theory test.

MissMustBeAMug · 02/12/2017 20:03

I would say it boils down to this op.

No on here knows you, no one really give a shiny shite if you ‘ride’ or not. If you go splat on a lorry tomorrow no one here is going to know or lose sleep are they?

But (and it’s a big but) no one like to think of children left adrift in the world, bereft if even the simplest securit, purely because their parent isn’t too quick of thinking.

So to sum up: Ride away, no one gives a shit. But if there is a teeny tiny responsible bone in your body then ffs pull your head out of your ass, put your dc first and get some bloody life insurance!!!!

Eolian · 02/12/2017 20:04

I don't understand. Your posts are basically saying "I know riding a motorbike is dangerous. AIBU to get pissed off when people say riding a motorbike is dangerous?". Umm... YABU.
