To ask what song makes you cry

For no reason.

Mine is Wings by Little Mix and I don’t really know why. I’m not even a fan of them, although they’re very cute. I’ve just listened to to the song and the tears are flowing. My DP is Hmm.
The other is God Only Knows but I understand why that would make me cry.

Anyway. what songs are guaranteed to make you have good cry.

Canaan’s land performed by kate Rusby gets me every time.
I’m not an overly emotional person but I could literally be doing anything and that song will set me off....glad it’s usually just on my I pod and not a regular feature on mainstream radio Xmas Smile

Sand and Water - Beth Nielsen Chapman

And some Victoria Wood songs, especially this one about a girl who wants to escape to a better life .

Slarti · 02/12/2017 13:05

"My Boy" by Neil Young

I don't know why the idea of children growing up should make me cry but I'm very sentimental and it always gets to me. It really hammers home how fleeting childhood is, especially the line "Boy, you'd better take your time / I thought we had just begun."

Whohasnickedmyvodka · 02/12/2017 13:10

Shine bright like a diamond by rhianna and superhero by the script both played at my dd eves funeral she was still born but fought all the way to live xxx

PetShopGirl · 02/12/2017 13:10

This Woman's Work - Kate Bush. Both my DS's were born by C Section so the only time I have been through labour was with the baby we lost at 22 weeks. I adore the song, but it chokes me up every time thinking about what DH and I went through together.

LexieLulu · 02/12/2017 13:12

Katy perry firework. In the video there's a girl fighting cancer, now I associate the song children with cancer.

😭

LexieLulu · 02/12/2017 13:15

Also somewhere over the rainbow, it was my mothers funeral song.

It was on tv at the Ariana grande Manchester concert, (Tbf I cried the majority of the concert)

Long December by counting crows. Some beautiful lyrics. I always find Christmas/new year an emotional time.

Also, james blunt was on radio 2 the other week singing live. I would never have thoight of myself as a fan but he sang "goodbye my lover" with so much emotion in his voice. I absolutely sobbed my heart out (by way of a disclaimer, i am pregnant and it has been a tough few months).

Too much love will kill you by Queen
Ronan by Taylor Swift

This is a bit daft, but the original Band Aid - Do they know it’s Christmas?” - Bono’s line - “tonight thank God it’s them, instead of you” now that I’m older, really hits me every time.

White Lies by The Sterophonics - a track in their last (not just released) album. I listened to it over and over when I was in a certain situation two years ago and now it’s like Pavlov’s dog... Xmas Hmm

Dido's Lament

headinhands · 02/12/2017 14:17

Everybody hurts. R.E.M. But only since this year after losing my sister. I never appreciated it before but it helped me feel less isolated when I was in agony.

Ellendegeneres · 02/12/2017 14:19

See you again- wiz khalifa and Charlie puth.
I break down every time. It makes me miss my sister so much

userofthiswebsite · 02/12/2017 14:20

There are a few but this one is timely:

The carol O Holy Night - there's a video on Youtube where it's sung just so beautifully

Puppymonkeybaby1 · 02/12/2017 14:22

In the living years - mike & the mechanics. My dad died a few years back and there was still so much I said between us. We didn't 'see eye to eye' and every time I hear that song it kills me

It was a very good year - Frank Sinatra. Just wraps up life in one song and makes you realise how short it really is

RoboticSealpup · 02/12/2017 14:44

Con te partiro - Andrea Bocelli (I think the original is better than the English version 'Time to say goodbye'.)

Waste of paint - Bright Eyes. A heartbreaking account of self-hatred.

Until it sleeps - Metallica. I think it's about grief and cancer but it could be about any physical or mental illness really.

Cheripie64 · 02/12/2017 14:59

Always on my mind - Elvis
My mum's funeral song, grew up listening to Elvis every Sunday morning.
