To ask what song makes you cry

LloydColeandtheCoconuts · 02/12/2017 09:10

For no reason.

Mine is Wings by Little Mix and I don’t really know why. I’m not even a fan of them, although they’re very cute. I’ve just listened to to the song and the tears are flowing. My DP is Hmm.
The other is God Only Knows but I understand why that would make me cry.

Anyway. what songs are guaranteed to make you have good cry.

Aww tbf I think that little mix song is quite empowering and uplifting.

Gave it all away by boyzone I don't even like boyzone but it made me howl it was little stephen gately's last song.

Leona Lewis version of Run.
PINKS family portrait.

Smile (though you heart is breaking)

Time to say goodbye, Andrea Broceli version.

On my own from Lesmis

Tazmum01 · 02/12/2017 09:25

Over the rainbow by Eva Cassidy. I made a cd of songs to play at the memorial service of my twin girls and this one makes my heart ache every time I hear it.

MarthasHarbour · 02/12/2017 09:25

scarymonsters much love Flowers

Mouikey · 02/12/2017 09:25

Fix you - Coldplay, used to hate them, inadvertently saw them play this live and cried like a baby - love them now!

Run - Snow Patrol, because of the back story.

Linkin Park - most of them these days, all of them are so sad and melancholy... I wish we could tell Chester he was worthy 😢

Aurora - Foo Fighters, happy sad as it’s someone specials name (I have to wear waterproof mascara if I see it live!).

KatieKookaburra26 · 02/12/2017 09:26

Dance with my father

HopefullyAnonymous · 02/12/2017 09:26

Time to say goodbye, for me too. My Grandad was very much into Pavarotti etc and used to sing lots of opera to me (wonderful voice) but this song particularly sticks in my memory and every time I hear it it’s like he’s singing it to me. I miss him terribly.

LloydColeandtheCoconuts · 02/12/2017 09:28

I’m so sorry scary Flowers

Days and Many Rivers to Cross are definate chin wobblers, I agree.

These are the days of our lives by Queen.

The words about being young and carefree with your whole life ahead of you really gets to me. I am in mid life crisis and the words are very poignant to me.

BrizzleDrizzle · 02/12/2017 09:31

Joy Division - She's lost control and REM's Everybody Hurts.

Str4ngedaysindeed · 02/12/2017 09:32

Behind The Bars by Elliott Smith 😢

parrotonmyshoulder · 02/12/2017 09:32

Vincent by Don McLean.

Steaksauce · 02/12/2017 09:33

American Trilogy by Elvis. It reminds me of my dad. He always turned it up
and sang along and when I listen to it I can almost hear his voice singing along with it.

Redisthemagicolour · 02/12/2017 09:34

Slipping through my fingers by ABBA. Fist heard it when dd1 was about 3 and it made me cry then. Still does if I think about the words - which I seem to often now she is very nearly 13 (and ds and dd2 not far behind)

LloydColeandtheCoconuts · 02/12/2017 09:38

Those lyrics to Letter To A John look devasting.
And as for Elliot Smith 😭😭😭😭😭😭

Hymn To Her - The Pretenders

Str4ngedaysindeed · 02/12/2017 09:40

Ds 17 played me the Elliott Smith song and well, that was it!

ThisIsMyUsername02123 · 02/12/2017 09:41

'Somewhere Only We Know'
Amazing song.

claraschu · 02/12/2017 09:42

Almost any hymn/ Christmas Carol,if I am singing it in a group, which is odd because I am a very convinced atheist.

Many of Schubert's songs, for instance Der Lindenbaum, but many others too.

The Marseillaise in Casablanca

Notreallyarsed · 02/12/2017 09:44

Supermarket Flowers by Ed Sheeran I heard it the day after my Mum died and it broke me.

We are Young by Fun - it was the background to footage of DP and his friends in Iraq and so many of the young boys in the video never came home

You’ll Never Walk Alone - in the video there’s an elderly couple dancing and I realised that will never be my Mum and Dad.

Thine Be the Glory - a hymn from my gran and Mum’s funerals, it chokes me.

Amazing Grace

TheSassyAssassin · 02/12/2017 09:44

Say Something - A Great Big World & Christina Aguilera (video for this has me in pieces). Supermarket Flowers - Ed Sheeran. Also agree with Slipping Through My Fingers (ABBA) and Everybody Hurts (REM....reminds me of friend's suicide Sad)....

Fabellini · 02/12/2017 09:44

Northernmum100 I had that song on the cd of stuff to play at dh's funeral last year, it summed up how we'd met when we were only 20 and 21 and thought we had forever ahead of us. He was only 49.
It doesn't make me cry though...the songs that make me cry are
There You'll Be by Faith Hill, and My Immortal by Evanescence.
They both induce real, wracking sobbing, snot, and sometimes a bit of lying on the floor.

Zaphodsotherhead · 02/12/2017 09:44

That song 'If you ever come back'...is it Maroon 5? They play it on the radio at work a lot. I start listening to the lyrics and thinking of my Dd who has moved to Australia, probably permanently, and I have to swallow very very hard to carry on.

Peachyking000 · 02/12/2017 09:46

Bright Eyes - makes me think of the ghost rabbit in Watership Down

letsdolunch321 · 02/12/2017 09:47

Wind beneath my wings -
Bette Midler

Makes me thing of my mum who passed 18yrs ago 😢😢

Joinourclub · 02/12/2017 09:48
