To ask what song makes you cry

LloydColeandtheCoconuts · 02/12/2017 09:10

For no reason.

Mine is Wings by Little Mix and I don’t really know why. I’m not even a fan of them, although they’re very cute. I’ve just listened to to the song and the tears are flowing. My DP is Hmm.
The other is God Only Knows but I understand why that would make me cry.

Anyway. what songs are guaranteed to make you have good cry.

There You'll Be - Faith Hill. Always play it when I'm thinking of my baby in heaven.

The Story - Sara Ramirez version from Greys Anatomy

Run - Snow Patrols acoustic version

juneavrile · 02/12/2017 10:59

So many songs on this thread that I don't know. Will have to have a Spotify snivelfest.

Mine are:

Success Has Made a Failure of Our Home by Sinead o Connor - at the end she sing's 'am I not your girl' and it's heart breaking.

Against all odds - Phil Collins (!)

You're the Best Thing That Ever Happened to Me - Gladys Knight

MuseumOfIdiots · 02/12/2017 10:59

At the moment, "White Wine in the Sun" by Tim Minchin. My dad died earlier this year and, well, listen to the chorus.

Somethingfantastic89 · 02/12/2017 11:01

Seraphina Slipping through my fingers by Abba gets me sobbing every time.

Chrys2017 · 02/12/2017 11:06

Can't Get it Out of My Head by ELO (story of my life)

Driftwood by Travis (the tragedy of unfulfilled potential)

Wendell Gee and So. Central Rain, both by REM

Lovecat · 02/12/2017 11:13

Local Boy In The Photograph by the Stereophonics.

My brother was murdered at 19 (25 years ago now) and even though the circumstances are totally unrelated and it's different ages, that line "You'll always be, twenty-three" kills me every time. I'm tearing up just typing it.

SwearySwearyQuiteContrary · 02/12/2017 11:14

Both Sides Now by Joni Mitchell. And then Emma Thompson had to go and do some of the most amazing tragic acting to it too.

Whocansay · 02/12/2017 11:15

The Living Years - Mike & The Mechanics. Love the song, but it came on the radio the other morning and I was tearing up within seconds. Had to go off.

Also 'Come All Ye Faithful'. No idea why. My eldest DS will now hold my hand when it gets played at the Carol service.

summerdays · 02/12/2017 11:17

The Rose by Westlife, this part:

When the night has been too lonely
And the road has been too long
When you think that love is only
For the lucky and the strong

every time

And See you again by Charlie Puth

Whocansay · 02/12/2017 11:18

Breathe Me by Sia
Seasons In The Sun by Terry Jacks
The Boxer/I Am A Rock by Simon & Garfunkel
To Build A Home by Cinematic Orchestra
Gorecki/Gabriel by Lamb
Protection/Safe from Harm by Massive Attack

All for various reasons - grief/bad times and various fuck ups in my life.

CinderellasShoes · 02/12/2017 11:25

Breathe me by Sia

Missrubyring · 02/12/2017 11:26

Linkin Park - One more light.
Mike Shinoda - Looking for an Answer.
Both struck a chord with me about depression and seeing someone you love not being able to get through it.

hayser33 · 02/12/2017 11:28

Queen ...Days of our lives (I think it's called that) made even more sad as I belive he was dying at the time he recorded the video to it Sad

wheresthel1ght · 02/12/2017 11:29

Oh god...

Dance with my father

Fields of Gold

Wind beneath my wings

And puff the magic dragon. Makes singing it with dd a bin starter

LloydColeandtheCoconuts · 02/12/2017 11:33

Somewhere Over The Rainbow - Eva Cassidy (I fill up just typing the words)
Firework - Katy Perry (Mine & DS’s song, he’s had/got confidence issues and I sing this to him to boost him up)
Heroes - Alesso (Another DS confidence booster)

ScaryMonstersAndSuperCreeps · 02/12/2017 11:52

Just remembered Supermarket Flowers by Ed Sheeran.... Sad

KatieKookaburra26 · 02/12/2017 11:58

Oh and small bump by ed Sheehan. When I was pregnant with dd there were lots of complications and the song came on, don’t think I’ve ever cried that much

CrashBangTrollop · 02/12/2017 12:05

'Silent Night' performed by Jose Carreras, Placido Domingo, and Sissel Kyrkjebo. I sat on my own listening to it last Christmas, my dad was incredibly ill, I'd had an argument with DH and everything went to shit.

Both tenors' voices are now well past their best, Sissel's soprano is as pure as crystal. My only happy memories of my dad involved listening to Jose Carreras, we both love him, and I sobbed like a baby.

piperatthegates · 02/12/2017 12:20

For me it's Songbird - Eva Cassidy, Shine On You Crazy Diamond - Pink Floyd, Have I Told You Lately - Van Morrison all played at my lovely husbands funeral, You're My Best Friend by Queen because we were, and from my childhood Old Shep by Elvis still makes me tear up now.

1DAD2KIDS · 02/12/2017 12:40

No Bravery - James Blunt

Still hits a cord post Kosovo. The same things are still happening.

PersonalClown · 02/12/2017 12:44

See You Again by Charlie Puth. Released the day my Dad died. I cannot listen to it without the tears flowing.

You're the Best Thing-The Style Council. Played at Dads funeral.

Supermarket Flowers-Ed Sheeran. Kinda obvious.

So many others but I'm just a weepy, emotional bitch these days. So much can set me off for no reason.
