To ask what song makes you cry

For no reason.

Mine is Wings by Little Mix and I don’t really know why. I’m not even a fan of them, although they’re very cute. I’ve just listened to to the song and the tears are flowing. My DP is Hmm.
The other is God Only Knows but I understand why that would make me cry.

Anyway. what songs are guaranteed to make you have good cry.

Run, the Leona Lewis version. I sang it (badly) to my daughter for the 8 hours she was with me.

tinytemper66 · 02/12/2017 20:28

Dance with my father again by Luther Vandross!

IfyouseeRitaMoreno · 02/12/2017 20:30

The one that goes “Say something, I’m giving up on you” by Christina Aguilera and some serious looking guy at the piano.

Roar by Katy Perry

And Slipping Through My Fingers by ABBA. That scene in Mamma Mia when Meryl knows she’s losing her baby daughter. Sad

Bananamanfan · 02/12/2017 20:31

Tender, by blur. I've sung it to all 3 dcs when babies, and i can't sing it myself without becoming a hooting, weeping mess now.

affectionincoldclimate · 02/12/2017 20:35

Hurt by Johnny Cash

And more recently Fast Love by George Michael by Adele - when slowed down it's such a poignant song especially when you now know George was grieving the death of his boyfriend. Made me cry on a bus.

FoofFighter · 02/12/2017 20:37

ABBA "Slipping through my fingers"

Quite self explanatory really but gets me every time.
And all I want for xmas is you Blush

Chocwocdoodah · 02/12/2017 20:39

This thread is breaking my heart but Thevanguardsix - what a bloody amazing, joyful story!

SleepingBooty · 02/12/2017 20:40

Hanson (Blush don't judge) Yearbook.
The lyrics are about a missing boy that disappears mysteriously and all that's left is his picture in the yearbook.

Cowardlycustard2 · 02/12/2017 20:40

Some amazing songs on this thread. I am so sorry for all those who have lost loved ones Flowers. I forgot to add Fingers by Grant McLennan. A beautiful song by an artist much underrated in his lifetime. The background to a very sad separation in my past, “hey you, watch me fall through your fingers, I will slip away like sand” welling up just thinking about it

Soyalatteforme · 02/12/2017 20:42

Dance with me Father for me too. I wish I could 😪

HashtagTired · 02/12/2017 20:42

thegreylady · 02/12/2017 20:56

Oh and The Rose..is it Bette Midler?
“Some say love is like a river....”

CPtart · 02/12/2017 20:58

"Don't want to miss a thing" by Aerosmith.

pumpkinpie5 · 02/12/2017 20:58

The rose- Betty Midler

Free - lighthouse family

Redemption song - Bob Marley

Feel my love - Adele

Woody67 · 02/12/2017 21:02

"Everything I own" by Bread. It reminds me of my Dad.

Apparently David Gates wrote it as a tribute to his Dad.

thegreylady · 02/12/2017 21:04

Oddly the most poignant of all, the one I want at my funeral, would be Those were the Days by Mary Hopkin. It takes me back to student days in Leeds in the sixties and to a particular pub near the University. How I identify with the line,”Is that lonely woman really me?”
Nowadays it isn’t but it was once, half a lifetime ago.

bimbobaggins · 02/12/2017 21:05

When I was younger everybody hurts by R.E.M., more recently how long will I love you and I’ve discovered a new one only this week, my arms are open by the script

user1469751309 · 02/12/2017 21:05

Bon Iver - I can't make you love me. Every time I hear it I'm a mess

SparklingSnowfall · 02/12/2017 21:07

Here comes the sun by the Beatles, has me almost hysterical every time 😭😭😭

SparklingSnowfall · 02/12/2017 21:15

Somehow I've never heard slipping through my fingers before, just put it on Spotify, oh god 😭

Allwashedup · 02/12/2017 21:21

December Song - George Michael
Do You Remember - Phil Collins

quirkychick · 02/12/2017 21:22

Sparkling I'm the same with Here comes the Sun, I love it, it just was a song that was played/sung to me as a little kid and brings back (happy) memories.
Jessie's song in Toy Story 2
One Fine Day, Madame Butterfly and very similarly Bring Him Home from Les Miserable (would love to see, but would end up a blubber mess, we used to have the album at home when I was younger)

So, sorry to hear some people's stories of loss Flowers
