Ordering chips, AIBU?

The local Chinese takeaway does really good chips. Amazing ones. Got to know this when they sent me some by accident a few weeks ago.

So tonight, DH and I order a takeaway and having been ill all week and struggling through it at work, I fancied treating myself to some of those amazing chips as a side to my meal.

DH strongly objected on two grounds; that I won't eat them all and that its not right to have chips as a side to Chinese food. As I was doing the order online, I just ignored him and added the chips.

When the meal arrived he got really would up about the chips being there, going on and on about how it wasn't a right thing to order, how I was wasting food, how it was unhealthy etc.... He wouldn't let it go and made a huge issue of it.

He then said that I'm banned from ever ordering chips with a Chinese takeaway again. He's now sulking in another room.

I accept that it's not in any way traditional, but they're so good, I feel like sh*t and wanted some extra carbs as a treat. I don't do it every time I order Chinese food. Was his reaction OTT or AIBU about the chips?

He's mean. What is he like the rest of the time? Is this a one off or a pattern?

leftwiththedognow · 30/11/2017 22:37

I've literally just read a 6 page thread about chips. WTAF.

ilovepixie · 30/11/2017 22:37

I love chinese chips. I always order them. LTB!

Maelstrop · 30/11/2017 22:38

Standard late night visit to the local Chinese takeaway used to be chips, rice and curry. Is your husband on glue? Personal favorite: chips, beansprouts, water chestnuts and bamboo shoots in a full of msg sauce. Omg, amazing!

RafikiIsTheBest · 30/11/2017 22:39

Buzzkillington's suggestions sound great, curry in a yorkshire pudding and pizza with a side of roast potatoes. Can I have that altogether? Along with Chinese and chips of course.
BTW not eaten since lunch, bit ravenous.

faceremovinghairscream · 30/11/2017 22:39

I've never needed chips so bad after reading all that, in bed, stomach rumbling. Waaaaaa.

ItsNachoCheese · 30/11/2017 22:39

Thats an ltb offence! Who the fuck does he think he is telling you you arent allowed chips with your chinese? Next you wont be allowed spaghetti with your bolognaise... what an absolute bellend!!

stayhomeclub · 30/11/2017 22:44

We always have Chinese chips. They’re bloody lovely. If it’s wrong I don’t want to be right.

quizqueen · 30/11/2017 22:46

Mmmm, I've never had chips with a Chinese takeaway but will be sure to try some next time. The whole Chinese meal is unhealthy so chips won't make it any worse!!!... and no one will tell me what I can eat.

Pawpainting · 30/11/2017 22:49

A 3 in 1 is my go to Chinese order when I'm back in Ireland. Chips, curry sauce and rice in a tray. Sometimes I get a 5 in 1 and add chicken balls and onions. Delicious

FucksakeCuntingFuckingTwats · 30/11/2017 22:51

Chips with your Chinese is lacking in etiquette

Hahahaha fuck right off what a load of nonsense!

I love garlic and chilli chips from the Chinese they are amazing.

Op I couldn't be with someone so controlling and uptight over the food you consume. Prick.

Ropsleybunny · 30/11/2017 22:52

The real issue is not chips and Chinese, it’s that he thinks he can tell you what you can and cannot do. There’s no way this is right. This is a massive red flag.

PickAChew · 30/11/2017 22:54

Has he never heard the phrase "half rice, half chips?"

And yes, chinese takeaway chips are often pretty fab.

Insomnibrat · 30/11/2017 22:55

I've just consulted my Debretts regarding etiquette relating to Chinese takeaway.
There was a picture of this smiley: Hmm

Ttbb · 30/11/2017 22:56

While I do object to ordering chips with Chinese your DH was way OTT. If you don't already have children I strongly reccomend leaving him before it's too late.

ThereIsIron · 30/11/2017 22:57

Fuckwit. You can't say "Chinese" and "Healthy" in the same conversation.

Originalfoogirl · 30/11/2017 22:58

f you don't already have children I strongly reccomend leaving him before it's too late.

But if there are kids she should stay with the sulky contolling git?

TrinitySquirrel · 30/11/2017 23:01

All of our chinese meals here come with chips or rice as standard. What planet are you living on where it doesn't?

Then again, someone once told me this was not the norm nationally and more common in Merseyside and the NE? All of our chinese takeaways are fish and chip shops too Blush

pallisers · 30/11/2017 23:02

God I'd be exhausted living with that.

He is pretty up himself to think his opinion on chips with chinese is The Law. Also pretty ... thick maybe?

TrinitySquirrel · 30/11/2017 23:02

@therisiron yes you can if it's fooyung and boiled rice. Piss off.

GeeLondon · 30/11/2017 23:03

LTB . Joke . Sounds like a twat though sorry . My DP has a similar love for carbs as I do so would be fighting over them

Mc180768 · 30/11/2017 23:05

Haha. Utter dick.

I'd spend the next month on telling him that too.

Undercurrents of him telling you what you can't do is slightly pertinent but honestly, YANBU, he is.

I'd have to laugh at how unreasonable and irrational his behaviour is. Sulking because you ordered chips. With Chinese. How very dare you?

stargazer2030 · 30/11/2017 23:07

Try salt and pepper chips next time - even better. It's not exactly authentic Chinese cuisine from the local takeaway.

EvilDoctorBallerinaRoastDuck · 30/11/2017 23:07

YABU unless they came with curry sauce.
