To think this isn't appropriate or very professional from school?

My child's church primary school has a special mass on an evening after school and they've asked children and parents to attend.

The school has now sent a text saying that children can wear their own clothes, but ha e stated "No tracksuits, short skirts or strappy tops".

It's not the tracksuits bit that bothers me, it's the bit about no short skirts or strappy tops.

Why not just ask for appropriate clothing for winter church? Why the need to specify about short skirts and strappy tops. These are primary school children and it just sounds like they are implying something.

I think it's really inappropriate and unprofessional coming from a school.

How is it sexist? No strappy tops or short skirts or tracksuits for anyone, not just for girls.

church is inherently sexist, you can't complain about sexist expectations for dress. Either dress appropriately for church or don't go.

A private girls school in my nearest city had to issue a very similar notice to their pupils one year - as a result of so many of the “young ladies” turning up for some dance or other looking anything but ladylike.

The school being complained by the OP about was right to issue the notice. What a damning indictment of some parents, that the reminder had to be sent in the first place. Surely THAT is the point.

Schools, quite rightly, are fed up of kids dressing in an inappropriate way given any leeway at all.

This ^^
Most parents are perfectly nice, normal and reasonable.

Some are the type of idiots who think:
'Appropriate outdoor coat' means wear a branded sports hoody that's not outdoor appropriate
'Black leather school shoes. No trainers' means go and buy black trainers and whine when school say no
'Natural hair colours only' means let your chils dye their hair bright red
'No jewellery' means get your childs ears pieced in yhe middle of term and kick off
'No nail varnish or fake nails' means not for other kids but if their aunty does acrylics as a treat then it's fine.

I don't think they are being sexist. I bet they are pre-empting are situation they have had before...
