here

What's that all about then? Why does it warrant its own category?

Wheres the equality in bitching about what other women choose to wear and what they call it?
We fought to have women wear what THEY choose, not what you think they should choose. And what they call it is also up to them.

Remember this: its as offensive to try and force women out of a style or manner of clothing as it is to force them into it.

MsHarry · 29/11/2017 19:57

But why is it only in the women's range? Menswear includes skin tight jeans, low cut T shirts , tight shorts et, where is there modest range? Sexism dressed up!

MsHarry · 29/11/2017 19:57

their

MsHarry · 29/11/2017 19:58

and I;m not bitching about what other women choose to wear , women can buy all of those clothes from shops already.

tinysparklyshoes · 29/11/2017 19:59

What bollocks. M&S menswear does not include mens hotpants and "low cut tops".

Battleax · 29/11/2017 20:00

Daft question maybe but, where the demand is chiefly from the Muslim community, what's wrong with "halal clothing"? Or is that not quite accurate?

RemainOptimistic · 29/11/2017 20:01

I'd like to see the immodest menswear section

As someone who is permanently hoiking up the necklines of her clothes to cover my mammaries I would actually really appreciate a modest clothing section. Yeah I can display them but I don't want to and don't see why fashion should force me to. Every shirt I buy I spend time sewing on a press stud to close the bloody thing up to a comfortable level!

tinysparklyshoes · 29/11/2017 20:01

It's not remotely accurate. Unless you think they plan to eat the clothes?

MsHarry · 29/11/2017 20:02

The point is that all of those clothes are available in shops, dresses over leggings, polo necked tops. My problem is that it is solely for women and called 'Modest'.

Reflexella · 29/11/2017 20:02

I don’t care what people wear at all just disliking it being branded as ‘modest’ just reminds me of ‘the handmaids tale’
shudder

stealthemoon · 29/11/2017 20:02

. Are there modest clothes for men?

I don't recall any posts on here that have had any issue with the way women choose to dress, the only issue is with the word. Words matter.

tinysparklyshoes · 29/11/2017 20:03

Are there modest clothes for men?

Almost all of them.

stealthemoon · 29/11/2017 20:03

Yes

Halal isn't just food, is it?

Halal is roughly "allowed". And Harlan is "forbidden".

Or have I misunderstood everything for years?

Halal' definitely not just food, anyway. It's stuff that's okay to do. I'm sure. My Muslim friends have always said it.

Battleax · 29/11/2017 20:04

That was to tiny.

Battleax · 29/11/2017 20:04

Haram^.

tinysparklyshoes · 29/11/2017 20:05

In common parlance it refers to food. People here need to understand the differences between dictionary definitions and actual usage.

Whether you like it or not, "modest clothing" is a term used by millions and millions of people. It makes no difference what any of you think about it.

fuzzywuzzy · 29/11/2017 20:06

Sparkly you’re funny 😂

Modest clothing isn’t just for a Muslim market tho. The market would be for any woman who wants a bit more coverage/non skin tight clothing.
Naming it something like ‘islamic’ or ‘muslim’ clothing narrows down the market, which is the opposite of what the company wants.

Battleax · 29/11/2017 20:07

There must be some alternative to "modest". Why are they not making it a sub brand and really embracing that market segment?

tinysparklyshoes · 29/11/2017 20:08

It's already called modest clothing. That ship sailed decades ago.

Sprogletsmuvva · 29/11/2017 20:09

Battle ax - you’ right. (Forbidden stuff is haram.) Poster who thought it only applies to food shoulda checked first.

Fekko · 29/11/2017 20:09

That market segment don't need a separate line of clothing though! 'They' - shock horror - shop in the same places as everyone else.

YoloSwaggins · 29/11/2017 20:10

Another one we can add to the long ever-growing list of what MN users are professionally offended about:

...the word "modest"

Battleax · 29/11/2017 20:10

But Per Una isn't called "odd clothes" and Autograph isn't called "smartish clothes". Why not make their offering a cohesive collection for buyers wanting "modest"?
