She is the granddaughter of first President of Bangladesh, and niece of current PM, and refused to answer questions about human rights in Bangladesh saying you need to 'be very careful' about questioning me, before saying to the producer "Thanks for coming Daisy, hope you have a great birth, because child labour is hard! See you!"

Here she is last month declaring her pride and sense of connection to the Bangladeshi government.

I think she was implying she hoped the birth would be horrible. A disgusting comment to make but not a threat as such.

She comes off very badly from that interview!! Very slimy. I wouldn't trust her at all.

I'm not even sure she should be allowed to be a U.K. MP since she has such close links to Bangladeshi government.

donquixotedelamancha · 28/11/2017 23:27

I'll probably be voting Labour next time, but no way I would vote for her.

Her responses about the disappeared lawyer were disgusting. When she claimed again that she didn't know who he was (having previously been asked about it on film, let alone the letters from the family) shows she lies as easily as she breathes.

Her ridiculous attempts to pretend racism from C4 for just asking questions belittles genuine racism.

Given the context of the previous interactions it's obvious the pregnancy comment was unpleasant, but it wasn't a death threat.

LizzieSiddal · 28/11/2017 23:27

She come across in that piece, as a bully and a nasty piece of work.

boomboom78 · 28/11/2017 23:41

I don't think it was a threat but what a bizarre thing to say & stupid to do it on camera, plus pulling the racist deflection card. She came across as a lying weasel, that will help the labour campaign 🙄

pisacake · 28/11/2017 23:49

She has this sort of 'how DARE you even QUESTION me' attitude, which I don't think is that common in the UK, but I see it A LOT in Indonesia where some people behave appallingly (often from a very young age) because of their connections and perceived untouchability.

Initially I thought that she was just going for the racism angle, but I actually wonder if this is the result of her upbringing (which in the countries she grew up in would typically have a lot of people waiting on you hand + food even without being a member of a political dynasty).

She has links to Putin too. www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3035229/Labour-candidate-accused-going-extraordinary-lengths-cover-links-Putin-1bn-arms-deal.html

She's my MP and I've not been sure what I think of her before now. I didn't vote for her

Whatsoccuringlovely · 28/11/2017 23:55

She’s was caught out and hit out in a spiteful childish nasty disgusting way.

I hope no woman or feminist supporting man ever votes for her in the future.

Spiteful silly immature idiot and we can do better

Gwlondon · 28/11/2017 23:56

To be honest you don't ever tell a pregnant woman that "labour is hard" as you are walking off. It's a nasty thing to say if you finish a conversation like that. Also, some people have nice labours!!! Orgasmic births and all that. If you have to tell a pregnant lady labour is hard you add something positive.

Someone needs to help Tulip because she will forever be asked about Ahmad bin Quasem now. It does put everything in perspective. Being kidnapped in front of your family. Tulip is going to have to respond better than that.

Holliewantstobehot · 28/11/2017 23:59

She was trying to deflect the question. If she didn't know who he was (or did, but had the sense to pretend she didn't) she would have just said pass me the details and I'll see what I can do.

cdtaylornats · 29/11/2017 00:21

You know what happens to MPs who do things and don't run it past the foreign office? See Pretti Patel.

Why ask a London MP to phone the Bangladeshi PM on behalf of a non-constituent. How would people feel if a relative of Mrs. May phoned her up and asked her to do a run around the justice system.

StrangeLookingParasite · 29/11/2017 00:25

I think I can see what you mean. It's sort of along the lines of 'child labour is hard, wouldn't it be awful if womething went wrong' kind of thing.
She comes across as incredibly slippery, every awful cliché about politicians.

And yes, she could do something, it's just that she won't.

StrangeLookingParasite · 29/11/2017 00:27

Why ask a London MP to phone the Bangladeshi PM on behalf of a non-constituent.

What? Because the PM is her aunt.

Whatsoccuringlovely · 29/11/2017 00:29

why ask a London MP??

Erm there are far more MPs representing constituencies outside of London who actually are mature enough and professional enough to answer a question without being spiteful and nasty to a pregnant journalist.

What the actual fuck that has to do with representing London escapes me?

highinthesky · 29/11/2017 00:30

She’s just horrid and nasty.

Holliewantstobehot · 29/11/2017 00:31

But surely then you just say its a matter for the foreign office, but I'd be happy to help if I can. I'll write to BoJo and offer my assistance.

highinthesky · 29/11/2017 00:32

Someone needs to help Tulip because she will forever be asked about Ahmad bin Quasem now.

She doesn’t need help, what she needs is the Labour whip to encourage her to explore her own humanity.

Sugarcoma · 29/11/2017 00:35

YANBU - the editor of Channel 4 News has complained to Labour and the HOC. She’s my MP and I think what she said is disgusting.

AlmaSedgewick · 29/11/2017 00:42

I loathe her, she's my former MP. Never did a thing for most constituents - only tackled issues on her own side of the tracks iyswim. But she got a huge increase at the last election because it's such a lefty area - a red tub of lard would have had the same success.

Entitled, bratty, champagne socialist of the worst kind. But they ❤️ her up in Hampstead.

Sugarcoma · 29/11/2017 00:47

Just RTFT - I can’t believe some people are implying she was trying to be nice. WTAF.

For a start in an earlier exchange she said to the journo “be very careful” which is outrageous in a democratic country with freedom of the press and then a few minutes later told his visibly pregnant producer in an extremely nasty and sarcastic tone of voice to “Hope you have a great birth, because child labour is hard" (obviously mixing up “child birth” and “labour”).

At best it was suggesting she hopes it’s a difficult delivery and at worst - who knows? I agree with the OPs suggestion.

Awful.

ComingUpTrumps · 29/11/2017 01:37

Bloody hell!! I actually respected her a bit until reading this now!! She comes across really badly in that interview (as PP have said) - Christ Confused She ain't going to do Labour any favours - that's for sure!!

Traffig · 29/11/2017 01:50

She is a disgrace watching that. Another politico social climber. What is it with Labour in these areas?
I could not vote for her at all. I would have to spoil my ballot paper.

The only reason I would vote Labour is because I have a really good MP and she deserves to be re elected. Plus she knows how to deal with difficult questions from the press without being an arrogant arse.

ArcheryAnnie · 29/11/2017 08:09

squoosh hmm, I think she was trying to appear to be nice, rather from proceeding with a genuine impulse to be nice, if you see what I mean. It's a fairly standard - if pretty ham-handed, as here - tactic in trying to recover something from a bad and awkward interview with someone you dislike but want on your side. I can see the internal thought process - even a subconscious one - as being a bit "I've just come across as angry and defensive, and this journalist has completely skewered me on film. I shall recover some ground by attempting to publicly connect with her, woman to woman, and she (and everyone else) will therefore feel more warmly to me!" Except it massive backfired, of course.

tl;dr I don't see it as a threat at all.

HateSummer · 29/11/2017 08:23

It sounded like she was wishing bad luck on her during birth.

It’s like me saying to someone, “I hope your operation goes well, because it is really dangerous”. Not wishing a person good luck or filling them with hope is it?

Her tone was really threatening too.

nauticant · 29/11/2017 08:27

I didn't see it is a threat but it looks like a parting shot of telling a pregnant woman she might be coming to harm. That is really nasty.
