She is the granddaughter of first President of Bangladesh, and niece of current PM, and refused to answer questions about human rights in Bangladesh saying you need to 'be very careful' about questioning me, before saying to the producer "Thanks for coming Daisy, hope you have a great birth, because child labour is hard! See you!"

I think what is more shocking is why she will campaign for 1 British citizen but not another - and the constituency argument doesn't tally with her promise to help other Bangladeshi citizens.

Why won't he intervene, or at least say she will try?

YetAnotherHelenMumsnet · 28/11/2017 22:41

Hi pisacake, we find the suggestion is not clear, indeed not much is clear at all, so if you could just stick to what is said on the clip we would be most grateful, as it would allow the thread to continue. Thanks.

skippy67 · 28/11/2017 22:41

The "suggestion" isn't clear. It only exists in your head OP.

HidingUnderARock · 28/11/2017 22:43

Fake News!

But it got us all to watch the clip, so congratz on your clickbait.

TaylorTinker · 28/11/2017 22:44

I'm thinking channel 4 have their emphasis wrong.

It's still the most disturbing clip of an MP talking to a journalist that I think I've ever seen.

Eltonjohnssyrup · 28/11/2017 22:45

What I find much worse is that she repeatedly lies about not knowing who the disappeared man is despite Ch4 bringing it to her attention previously as have his family and other campaigners.

He's probably dead and she knows this full well but is keeping her gob shut to protect her aunt.

It's just vile she is so dishonest.

Here is Daisy Ayliffe's twitter.

Complaints have been submitted to the Labour party about the comments made to her.

Here is Alex Thomson who says the remark is 'apparently threatening'

I watched it, and it didn't come off as a threat at all, rather a ham-handed way of a politician trying to reconnect, however clumsily, on a human level with the journalist she'd just had a fairly awkward and difficult interview with. I think she was actually trying to be nice - or at least come off as nice - not nasty. (And she obviously didn't succeed, but that's a different matter.)

Whatsoccuringlovely · 28/11/2017 22:47

She didn’t wish the reporter or her child would die that’s ludicrous.

However she is obviously only interested in aligning herself with a popular cause and making a name for herself.

She’s an MP! That’s what they do. And labour MPs now days are the biggest band wagon jumpers ever unfortunately that’s why I resigned from the Party and didn’t vote Corbyn.

Hopefully soon sense will prevail.

What a nasty comment though from one woman to another though. Shameful

pisacake · 28/11/2017 22:47

You really think you'd say 'childbirth is hard' to someone to make them feel better?

OP posts:
Eltonjohnssyrup · 28/11/2017 22:48

I think she was implying that she hoped it hurt.

Valentine2 · 28/11/2017 22:48

Wtf. One of the classi face palm moments of Mumsnet.

AnyFucker · 28/11/2017 22:49

Tulip looked completely rattled and lost the plot somewhat. Most unprofessional and certainly not fitting for her position. What she said was quite bizarre actually but not a threat IMO. More a misguided and frankly childish attempt at getting her own back for her perceived persecution.

Weebo · 28/11/2017 22:51

If you had asked if it was an inappropriate thing to say I doubt anyone here would have disagreed with you.

But to suggest she meant anything to do with your thread title makes it look like you have an agenda.

Binkybix · 28/11/2017 22:53

Not a threat although deeply unpleasant. The rest of the story is pretty shocking though.

Originalfoogirl · 28/11/2017 22:54

What a crock. She wasn’t even hinting that she wished her ill.

squoosh · 28/11/2017 22:55

Really?!

Lockheart · 28/11/2017 22:56

It's a very bitchy remark at best. Obviously wasn't meant nicely or conversationally. There was no need to refer to the pregnancy at all, she was just lashing out.

pisacake · 28/11/2017 22:59

I liked the 'are you saying I'm Bangladeshi?' 'You better not be saying I'm Bangladeshi' bit

No they're not saying that, they're saying you are actual family of the actual Bangladeshi PM and part of a Bangladeshi political dynasty, and you have actually got yourself involved in Bangladeshi politics in the past. (Her blog: <a class="break-all" href="http://web.archive.org/web/20090130052325/www.tulipsiddiq.com/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">web.archive.org/web/20090130052325/www.tulipsiddiq.com/ (Since scrubbed from the record.))

Her uncle is also senior in Bangladeshi politics. www.lhrtimes.com/2012/09/02/bangladesh-pm-advisors-accused-of-massive-corruption/ (Tarique Ahmed Siddique)

Viviennemary · 28/11/2017 23:03

Don't get it. Sorry.

pisacake · 28/11/2017 23:04

She is also a member of the Women & Equalities Commission in Parliament

OP posts:
Lockheart · 28/11/2017 23:04

She was also obviously lying about not knowing about the case of this barrister and was trying to deflect "Is he British? Is he a West Hampstead constituent?" (because apparently we're the only people that matter) - utterly deplorable.

I very nearly voted for her this year as well! She's my MP, I may well write to her..

Eltonjohnssyrup · 28/11/2017 23:08

Interestingly, apparently the government in Bangladesh takes a very hard line on Jihadis and promoters of extremism...

But despite that, no matter how much I hate the ideology, extremists deserve due process and a trial. That's what Corbyn says passionately...

LizzieSiddal · 28/11/2017 23:11

“a ham-handed way of a politician trying to reconnect, however clumsily, on a human level with the journalist she'd just had a fairly awkward and difficult interview with. I think she was actually trying to be nice“

Her tone suggested something very different.

Growingboys · 28/11/2017 23:14

Can't stand Tulip and this more than confirms it.
