She is the granddaughter of first President of Bangladesh, and niece of current PM, and refused to answer questions about human rights in Bangladesh saying you need to 'be very careful' about questioning me, before saying to the producer "Thanks for coming Daisy, hope you have a great birth, because child labour is hard! See you!"

I saw that, her words weren't specifically nasty (in isolation) but you could feel the venom drip from the words.

There are a few links on Twitter.

Sheitgeist · 28/11/2017 22:01

I think it's a little bit of a leap to infer that Siddiq said she hoped the journalist/ her bay would die from that exchange.

Sheitgeist · 28/11/2017 22:01

*baby

WillowWeeping · 28/11/2017 22:06

Definitely unpleasant.
Definitely a reach suggesting she said she hoped the journalist would die in childbirth Confused

Unfinishedkitchen · 28/11/2017 22:07

Sorry I don't understand the connection to stillbirth in what she said?

pisacake · 28/11/2017 22:11

Here's the exchange:

I watched the segment and she and her bag carrier came across extremely badly. But I don't think she was saying she hoped the journalist and her baby died. I do think she was saying 'hope you have a miserable labour'.

Either way, she sounds most shady and she'll be regretting this exchange.

DumbledoresApprentice · 28/11/2017 22:13

I’m no fan of Siddiq but she didn’t suggest that at all.

pisacake · 28/11/2017 22:15

Apparently she has complained the police.

Absolutely mental.

I've ran it through Google Translate several times and not once did "thanks for coming Daisy, hope you have a great birth, because child labour is hard! See you" translate to "I hope you and your baby die".

Hmm
SonicBoomBoom · 28/11/2017 22:16

Em, I think you are hearing something that wasn't there

skippy67 · 28/11/2017 22:17

She didn't suggest that at all!

TaylorTinker · 28/11/2017 22:18

Misleading title but tbh I was shocked by this new low in MP behaviour. And I'm quite cynical really.

I

Creatureofthenight · 28/11/2017 22:18

How on earth have you managed to misconstrue that? She's hoping the journalist has a painful labour by the sound of it, but nowhere did she wish that the mother or child die.

pisacake · 28/11/2017 22:19

How is it misconstruing? She said child labour is hard, not that it's painful.

OP posts:
SumThucker · 28/11/2017 22:20

Die in childbirth? Where?! Confused

60sname · 28/11/2017 22:21

That is a ridiculous - and possibly libellous - leap

NotACleverName · 28/11/2017 22:21

How is it misconstruing? She said child labour is hard, not that it's painful.

Exactly that, she said it was hard. Hard ≠ "I hope you and your baby die" ffs.

Fantasticmissfoxy · 28/11/2017 22:22

I think she comes across as a nasty slopey-shouldered piece of work but it's a massive leap to read her comments as threatening let alone inferring she wished the journalist's baby would come to harm 😏

TaylorTinker · 28/11/2017 22:22

Tbh it was such a freakishly weird thing to say. But the run up was quite a performance too.

SunnySkiesSleepsintheMorning · 28/11/2017 22:22

YAB ridiculous in your assertation but her comment was very unpleasant.

Creatureofthenight · 28/11/2017 22:23

Yes labour is hard. Because it's painful.

kmc1111 · 28/11/2017 22:23

I mean, I strongly dislike the woman and she obviously comes off terribly, but I have no idea how anyone could get 'I hope you and your baby die' from that exchange. She was just being petty and bitchy about how unpleasant giving birth is.

limitedperiodonly · 28/11/2017 22:24

You focused on the wrong bit - I don't understand why - but I agree with you that her attitude is shocking and needs addressing

pisacake · 28/11/2017 22:26

Last year Siddiq was complaining (rightly) about women MPs getting abuse. www.theguardian.com/technology/2016/jun/18/vile-online-abuse-against-women-mps-needs-to-be-challenged-now

Now she is targeting a woman (Channel 4 have described it as 'apparently threatening') simply because she is pregnant.
