To not tell my soon-to-be DW about my mad ex-DW

Whom I have locked up in my attic? I met her abroad ages ago and married her but then she went mad and I had to confine her to the upper floor of my house. A while ago, I had to hire a governess for my DD (of sorts - her mother was a french performer who left her to me when she died) and she and I hit it off. Long story short, I asked the governess to marry me and now my ex-DW is kicking up a fuss. My soon-to-be DW is snooping around and I'm worried that she will find my ex, who is sometimes violent. If we leave the country after we are married, AIBU to not tell her about my ex-DW? Surely what she doesn't know won't hurt her?

Hmm
Boilerbitch · 26/11/2017 22:00

Nah, it's fine. You've got smoke alarms, right?

QueenArseClangers · 26/11/2017 22:01

Have you had an STI check at the clinic? I’m sure syphillis has had an affect on ExDW’s MH.

Izzy24 · 26/11/2017 22:01

Hmm,
This I will all go up in smoke will it not?

shushpenfold · 26/11/2017 22:01

Ah but You know how this ends don’t you....fire, blindness etc. I would tell her. X

DullAndOld · 26/11/2017 22:01

I did this once, pretending to be the girl from Cold Comfort Farm ("I am staying with family in the country, should I buy my relative a little mop, he is doing the washing up with a bunch of twigs') and got banned.
Just so you know.
Funny though.
OP be really careful with oil lamps and the like...

Somethingfantastic89 · 26/11/2017 22:01

So you just read Jane Eyre? Grin

Trills · 26/11/2017 22:01

Are you sure she's your ex or are you actively contemplating bigamy?

Letmesleepalready · 26/11/2017 22:01

Whatever you decide, just make sure you don’t leave any candles laying around...

MaidOfStars · 26/11/2017 22:03

Well done, OP. You read a book. A proper one.

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 26/11/2017 22:03

Do not invite your ex bill to the wedding!

DullAndOld · 26/11/2017 22:03

oh come on don't be mean, OP is trying to amuse and entertain us...

TheBananaStand2 · 26/11/2017 22:03

Nah, don't worry about it OP. But watch out for any long lost family members who might roll up and spoil your big day.

elephantoverthehill · 26/11/2017 22:07

Well, I don't have a name but the fecking exW did. Everyone keeps reminding me about her. At least you are called 'Jane'.

sagamartha · 26/11/2017 22:10

You think you've got problems?

I've just let my 4 kids go off for a few days sailing to an island on a lake after they begged and DH just gave a message saying Don't drown.

elephantoverthehill · 26/11/2017 22:12

Well Saga duffers are pretty useless as DCs. So they might as well drown.

DullAndOld · 26/11/2017 22:12

oh Mrs de Winter did you have a nasty dream? Did you go to Manderley again?

WeWillRochYou · 26/11/2017 22:13

So ex Bil turns up at my house - like WTF amirite? IDK what to do with him so I'm just pretending that everything is fine. He's not a strong man, there's nothing he can do to me physically and his sister is guarded by one of my most loyal servan- sorry, employees. Thanks for the advice but ex-DW is securely locked up - what's the worst that can happen?

pieceofpurplesky · 26/11/2017 22:15

Exw will get out, you know that right? Don’t go buying anything frivolous for fiancé as it may get ruined

WideSargassoBertha · 26/11/2017 22:15

Rochester? Is that you, you total bastard????

tiptopteepe · 26/11/2017 22:16

If you look anything like Michael Fassbender then honestly you can do anything you want. She will certainly forgive you in the end.

HebeMumsnet · 26/11/2017 22:16

Sorry to barge in, OP, but we think what you might need is a slightly interfering but well-meaning governess to take the strain of some of the day-to-day stuff.

Also, have you thought about doing a loft conversion? They're pretty reasonable and solve a multitude of problems in a family home such as yours.

As previous posters have said, however, do take care with naked flames etc. So easy to have a accident. Do pop back and let us know how it's going.

flumpybear · 26/11/2017 22:18

I think that’s pretty normal OP - I have two lifts, one ex in each Wink

ButchyRestingFace · 26/11/2017 22:19

Forget the new wife, OP.

Do you have home contents and buildings insurance? 🍀

Slightlyperturbedowlagain · 26/11/2017 22:19

Anyone seen the 'AIBU fiancée/employer has a mad wife locked in the attic and refuses to discuss it, should I LTB?'
I am waiting for an update and can't find it.
