AIBU that people that rent shouldn't have pets

My friend is having to find another rented property but can't find anywhere that will accept pets, she's asked me to have her 2 dogs, I have 2 dogs already but they will have to be put down if I don't have them 😞 Why do people who rent have pets when this puts them in a difficult position. I can see a lot of dogs being put down as homes will be more difficult to find

Depends on the house and the area. If you know there's lots of similar houses to rent near you that take pets, no problem. If you know it's an issue, sadly you need to wait. When I was a letting agent we regularly turned away people with pets because the landlords said no or the properties were unsuitable. On the political poster thread I gave some examples of the huge issues pets can cause for landlords when the owners are irresponsible - it's not surprising that some landlords will try to avoid that.

As usual, a small number of shit people spoil things for everyone else!

Here in a rural area, dogs and cats, and other pets are entirely normal, and most small landlords probably wouldn't object but in a city, with an owner out to work for 10 hours, the animal is likely to be both bored and stressed, which is not good news for the fixtures and fittings.

Yanbu.
People think about themselves not about the animal. The animal is priority. Yes it’s annoying to not be able to have a pet but if it’s best for the pet you shouldn’t.

Why can't she travel further to take her dogs to a rehoming place? What about Battersea? They have animals coming from all around the country

Battleax · 24/11/2017 21:42

Battersea have a waiting list to take animals.
