Waitrose delivery man just walked straight in?!

Hello just wanted to hear other peoples thoughts on this. Use Home shopping for food very often, have used all the usual chains such as Ocado, Sainsburys and Asda and decided to give Waitrose a shot with their £20 off your first shop offer...

I booked a early delivery for this morning 7-8am. The guy came within that time, took forever to bring the shopping over from the van to my door, I always order roughly the same amount and I’ve never know it to be this long!

More unnerving was the fact that when he first came I met him at the door he dropped some bags at my step and told me he was off to bring more so I went in closed my front door as I have a toddler running about and a elder son getting ready for school and was standing in my kitchen unloading the bags when he walked straight in the door without knocking which was firmly closed and stood in my hallway with some more bags in his hand.... it made me feel pretty uncomfortable and no other delivery driver has ever done that...

Then I start to smell a lovely aroma of fabric conditioner to see it’s leaked all over a bag of produce which can still be used but all the packaging is slippery and coated in it ... no bottle of fabric conditioner to be seen ..

He informs me on the last bag about the leak and that he is unable to give it to me but he’s going to refund the couple bottles of bleach that he can see have also got covered in the conditioner ... regarding the bag from the kitchen he said take that up with the local branch..

I was expecting Waitrose to be better all round and to be honest they were the worst so far! Even worse than asda and that’s saying something !

Have emailed customer services but surely they aren’t supposed to walk in a closed front door without knocking and without asking ...

I was also told by someone who works for a certain supermarket that any returned items are no longer sellable.

I doubt that if Waitrose has the same policy they were happy with losing the money twice over. Hmm

If he's done it with the first lot of bags he'd be out of order but you'd already answered and knew he wasn't on his way back with more bags. I hope he doesn't get into trouble for that!!

Fluffyears · 23/11/2017 20:08

Load of bullshit. Post a picture of the fliers and chocolates!

Maplestaple · 23/11/2017 20:22

I really hope this is made up. What an absolute shit thing to complain about. And you still haven't answered why were you unpacking your shopping when you knew he was bringing more?

kinkajoukid · 23/11/2017 20:28

I have online food shopping but don't have delivery people come into the house - I receive the bags on the doorstep so I absolutely would not expect someone to open a closed door and walk right in.

He definitely should have knocked. Funnily enough we had a similar experience with a Waitrose guy where he breezily pushed his way past my husband who wasn't well or wide awake. I complained as although well-meaning, it was rude. That is the only time we have had a problem with any driver. We have Sainsburys and Ocado 99% of the time and their drivers are great. Especially Sainsburys drivers. Great people.

YABU. He was just doing his job.

Poor delivery driver!

I totally would have been saying complain about the split fabric softener, but to make a compliant with someone trying to help you out? Well, I just feel sorry for him. He’s now got a compliant, and you are all smug at your “winnings” at his expense. You had asked IYWBU before you spoke to them, yet still threw him under the bus, you probably would have got the same resolve without endangering someone’s job.

Iamagreyhound..Chavda...oh please can you leave the snarky, snobby comments out!

Thankyoucomeagain · 23/11/2017 21:07

Hopefully your complaint gets laughed at. When was the last time you complained about something else? Let me guess. Quite recently.

Thankyoucomeagain · 23/11/2017 21:11

Hope you choke on that chocolate.

YABU.

MinervaSaidThar · 23/11/2017 21:41

he is refunding half my shopping, sending me flowers and chocolates today before my school run !

I don't believe you, OP.

PortiaCastis · 23/11/2017 21:49

Customer care at Bracknell deal with refunds and goodwill!

I took that as tongue in cheek. I shop at Asda and have heard it referred to that before in RL. Just a nickname.

They were halfway through the delivery though and he had told her that he was off to get the other bags and that he would be back! It's not like OP didn't know he was there.
She'd shut him out halfway through the delivery and left him hanging on the doorstep whilst she was busy putting the rest of the shopping she did have away. How was he supposed to know she was doing that? She knew he was there. So rude to just shut the door and faff and leave him not knowing what was going on!
Fabric conditioner had apparently burst or something. Was he supposed to just leave the bags on the doorstep and bog off to his next delivery without telling her? As no doubt THAT would have warranted a complaint as well! Poor bloke can't win!

They were in the middle of delivery though. He can't stand there and wait for OP to finish unpacking. He has other deliveries to make. Which he might be very late for. Then the poor sod would get in trouble twice.

I do hope OP came back to read some of the additional comments, still makes me mad thinking about this one!
