Waitrose delivery man just walked straight in?!

Hello just wanted to hear other peoples thoughts on this. Use Home shopping for food very often, have used all the usual chains such as Ocado, Sainsburys and Asda and decided to give Waitrose a shot with their £20 off your first shop offer...

I booked a early delivery for this morning 7-8am. The guy came within that time, took forever to bring the shopping over from the van to my door, I always order roughly the same amount and I’ve never know it to be this long!

More unnerving was the fact that when he first came I met him at the door he dropped some bags at my step and told me he was off to bring more so I went in closed my front door as I have a toddler running about and a elder son getting ready for school and was standing in my kitchen unloading the bags when he walked straight in the door without knocking which was firmly closed and stood in my hallway with some more bags in his hand.... it made me feel pretty uncomfortable and no other delivery driver has ever done that...

Then I start to smell a lovely aroma of fabric conditioner to see it’s leaked all over a bag of produce which can still be used but all the packaging is slippery and coated in it ... no bottle of fabric conditioner to be seen ..

He informs me on the last bag about the leak and that he is unable to give it to me but he’s going to refund the couple bottles of bleach that he can see have also got covered in the conditioner ... regarding the bag from the kitchen he said take that up with the local branch..

I was expecting Waitrose to be better all round and to be honest they were the worst so far! Even worse than asda and that’s saying something !

Have emailed customer services but surely they aren’t supposed to walk in a closed front door without knocking and without asking ...

.Yes I would have expected him to knock again and wait after I had told him to ‘leave the bags there’ AND shut the door. I think that’s a pretty clear message

Then whinged about the damaged items. Or was he expected to wait on the doorstep after she’d finished unloading?

Hope you’re happy after your complaint OP. You’ve just got someone in trouble for fuck all. Bravo 👏 enjoy your freebies.

eddiemairswife · 23/11/2017 12:54

I've had Waitrose deliver for a year now and can't praise the men and women who deliver too highly. Always on time, always polite, friendly and helpful.

PumpkinSquash · 23/11/2017 12:54

so he is refunding half my shopping, sending me flowers and chocolates today before my school run ! Wow !

OK, cross posted with your speedy update.
So, you complain about a helpful driver, potentially into trouble, and you get your shopping practically for free to boot.
Bonus. Hmm

ShesAStar · 23/11/2017 12:54

Hmmmmmm

SelmaAndJubjub · 23/11/2017 12:54

I think you are getting a slightly hard time, OP, as you hadn't asked him to bring anything in and thought you had asked him to leave it outside. But it does sound like an honest misunderstanding on his part, so unfair to complain.

And YABVU for blaming him for being unable to refund all the items in the leaky bag. Do you think he sets Waitrose policies on refunds? If you want to complain, complain about the policy, not about the individual - who probably finds it as annoying as you do.

Venusflytwat · 23/11/2017 12:54

What a ridiculous fuss over nothing.

Stop shutting doors on people trying to help you. And stop using poor people going about their daily shop to get you free stuff. Plan your deliveries for a time when they don’t trigger your personal life crises.

TsunamiOfShit · 23/11/2017 12:55

Why did you start unpacking the first lot of bags in the kitchen instead of going back to the door to take the next bags off him if it is this important that no-one enters your home?

Poor delivery guy.

Jenala · 23/11/2017 12:55

I don't understand why people think yabu. My delivery drivers never come in. They leave it all on my doorstep. I wouldn't want them to come in and I would be put out if they opened the door.

The products covered in conditioner aren't his fault and not much else he can do. The coming in is weird though and I'm surprised how many people wouldn't mind this. Do you all have them deliver to your bloody kitchens?

Nicknacky · 23/11/2017 12:55

Fantastic! And he fact he has had a bollocking for trying to help is a bonus!

Sparklingbrook · 23/11/2017 12:55

I hope they don't send that poor delivery driver back with the flowers and chocolates.

ThymeLord · 23/11/2017 12:56

I'm off to Asda to fall over in the banana aisle and see if I can get some compo and flowers out of it. I would do an online shop but my front door is at the repair shop so I have nothing to open/close on the delivery driver.

zaalitje · 23/11/2017 12:56

Seems an over reaction from the shop for the story you.posted here, which tbh was a non event.

What did you actually say to them?
Hope the driver hasn't taken the brunt of it

ShesAStar · 23/11/2017 12:56

My DD got stuck in a door at Waitrose, she was allowed to choose a packet of sweets. I used to work in a complaints department, I’ve not heard of such a big reward for so little inconvenience.

somanyusernames · 23/11/2017 12:56

agree with gamer and eddie - I've found waitrose to be by far the best supermarket delivery - very polite delivery staff and always a prompt refund either through the delivery driver or the store for any problems - best stock availability too. I hope you didn't get the driver into trouble but sure you did.

Willow2017 · 23/11/2017 12:57

OMG this has 'triggered' the memory of my washing machine being delivered recently.

I opened the door to one guy who came in to take out my old machine and OMG the other guy came straight in 3 minutes later to help him take it out and put the new one in.....without knocking or asking permission, how fucking dare he? I didnt give him permission to come into my home, what a liberty!
I had to lie down with a cold cloth on my forehead to stave off the vapours. Shock

Jesus wept!

user1495832265 · 23/11/2017 12:57

I don't but that's because the kitchen is frequently a tip.
Use Ocado, Sainsburys and Waitrose regularly. They all offer to bring it in.

somanyusernames · 23/11/2017 12:58

and yes jenala of course they put it in your kitchen so you don't have to carry it in - one of the main perks of online shopping usually that it comes straight into where you want it.

Brighton5555 · 23/11/2017 12:58

I did explain on the telephone my aim wasn’t to get the driver into any trouble but just explain as a customer where I felt he had gone a little wrong, his manager agreed with me and it’s a happy outcome. Again bitchy comments that I must be looking for freebies etc etc ... hmmmm... why is it that many of you have jumped to negative assumptions about me instead of just giving an opinion on what I wrote ... does it always get this personal ?

I've not done online grocery shopping for a while but on some occasions when I have they've carried the bags through for me without being asked (not Waitrose, another big supermarket)
It's called being helpful.

Sparklingbrook · 23/11/2017 12:58

Will they have to knock once for the flowers, then again for the chocolates?

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 23/11/2017 12:58

Well that resolution happened conveniently quickly....

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 23/11/2017 12:58

Well if they "got the service wrong" OP, so did you.

Of course they have over compensated you. Waitrose have a certain reputation to live up to.

Brighton5555 · 23/11/2017 12:59

Thank you :-)
