Waitrose delivery man just walked straight in?!

Hello just wanted to hear other peoples thoughts on this. Use Home shopping for food very often, have used all the usual chains such as Ocado, Sainsburys and Asda and decided to give Waitrose a shot with their £20 off your first shop offer...

I booked a early delivery for this morning 7-8am. The guy came within that time, took forever to bring the shopping over from the van to my door, I always order roughly the same amount and I’ve never know it to be this long!

More unnerving was the fact that when he first came I met him at the door he dropped some bags at my step and told me he was off to bring more so I went in closed my front door as I have a toddler running about and a elder son getting ready for school and was standing in my kitchen unloading the bags when he walked straight in the door without knocking which was firmly closed and stood in my hallway with some more bags in his hand.... it made me feel pretty uncomfortable and no other delivery driver has ever done that...

Then I start to smell a lovely aroma of fabric conditioner to see it’s leaked all over a bag of produce which can still be used but all the packaging is slippery and coated in it ... no bottle of fabric conditioner to be seen ..

He informs me on the last bag about the leak and that he is unable to give it to me but he’s going to refund the couple bottles of bleach that he can see have also got covered in the conditioner ... regarding the bag from the kitchen he said take that up with the local branch..

I was expecting Waitrose to be better all round and to be honest they were the worst so far! Even worse than asda and that’s saying something !

Have emailed customer services but surely they aren’t supposed to walk in a closed front door without knocking and without asking ...

Will they have to knock once for the flowers, then again for the chocolates?

Grin Grin stop it, you're killing me here Grin

If Waitrose don't think the driver did anything wrong he won't get into trouble.

My stuff is scanned there and then by the driver if it requires a refund. I've never been told to take it up with the local store.

ShesAStar · 23/11/2017 12:59

The outcome doesn’t sound plausible.

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 23/11/2017 13:01

The coming in is weird though and I'm surprised how many people wouldn't mind this. Do you all have them deliver to your bloody kitchens

I am generally asked whether I want the shopping brought in. I always say no thank you, but then I come back to the door!

I can see how saying nothing, shutting the door & then pissing off to unpack the first load could send the message that you are expecting the rest to be brought through to you!

cantStopTheRock · 23/11/2017 13:01

"why is it that many of you have jumped to negative assumptions about me"

Because you sound grabby and a very, very negative person. They aren't assumptions as everything you've said shows what you're like.

Enjoy your chocolates Hmm

JonSnow

Waitrose and Ocado deliveries aren't the same thing. Yes, Ocado delivers mostly Waitrose brand products, in addition to their own, but they have a huge distribution centre and also deliver for Morrisons (I think).
If you book direct with Waitrose it all comes from your local store, in a Waitrose van.

PumpkinSquash · 23/11/2017 13:02

was thinking the same. I hope the flowers aren't too big a bunch so he can carry both at once otherwise he'll have the door shut in his face again.
(If it's the same delivery man, I bet he'd be delighting in choosing the flowers with the pointiest leaves and biggest prickly stems Grin )

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 23/11/2017 13:02

Make him use the Tradesman's Entrance when he comes back with your flowers, op. For the avoidance of yet another faux pas that you'll need to be compensated for.

RainbowPastel · 23/11/2017 13:03

Poor driver just doing his job and you will have got him into trouble.

Nicknacky · 23/11/2017 13:04

So you didn't email to complain but to let them know where he went wrong? That's called a complaint.

Or do you also email to tell them when they do it right?

why12345 · 23/11/2017 13:05

Why do you deserve half your shopping refunded, flowers and chocolate?? A bottle popped?? So bloody what. Go get a refund and you had already opened the door to the driver and he was delivering your shopping!!! What a fussy person!! I just hope the poor man didn’t get into trouble for doing his job!

JonSnowsWife · 23/11/2017 13:05

Ah right user I've always assumed they're the same thing. Blush

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 23/11/2017 13:06

I would have refused the flowers & chocolates OP.

The delivery driver might ask to use the loo next time! Imagine the horror!

streetlife70s · 23/11/2017 13:07

I’m trying to find the post where the OP said she smashed him over the head with a claw hammer, buried him under the patio and demanded Waitrose sold his possessions to compensate her.

I can’t find it but judging by some of the responses you must have said that at some point.

Silverthorn · 23/11/2017 13:08

I imagine most people who shop at waitrose have the butler deal with tradespeople. What an ordeal OP has had.
(Sarcastic emoticon)
Carrying groceries into the kitchen is part of the service.

JonSnowsWife · 23/11/2017 13:11

No. They've always stayed at the door as DS loves helping me carry the bags through to the kitchen and saying good morning to the Sainsbury's / Ocado man.

They do however help if you request sometimes, I know this as DM had a knee replacement in the summer and the Sainsbury's drivers were more than helpful in taking shopping through to the kitchen as DM was on crutches and literally couldn't carry it.

OP - YABVVVVVVVVVU. Poor driver. He was just helping you.

I hope that your freebies dont get docked from his wages.

Awful behaviour on your part! HTH.

bluebells1 · 23/11/2017 13:14

JonSnowsWife · 23/11/2017 13:15

Leave the bags where though OP?

If your house is anything like mine there's very little space.

PumpkinSquash · 23/11/2017 13:15

why is it that many of you have jumped to negative assumptions about me"

Because that's how you're portraying yourself.

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 23/11/2017 13:15

He'll probably leave them on the doorstep, giving op grounds to complain again.

Cantgetagoodusername · 23/11/2017 13:17

Really?

You complain about a delivery driver for fuck all reason then get 'apparently' compensated with all that Hmm

I hope it makes you happy OP. Online shopping delivery drivers work bloody hard for a crap hourly rate & you go & complain about him being helpful. Bravo you!

Why were you unloading your shopping in the kitchen when you hadn't received all your items? It doesn't work like that Confused I take all the items at the front door, let them pile up in the hall way, where my toddler & 9 month old pile all over it. Such is life eh?

why12345 · 23/11/2017 13:18

Perfectly said!
