Waitrose delivery man just walked straight in?!

Hello just wanted to hear other peoples thoughts on this. Use Home shopping for food very often, have used all the usual chains such as Ocado, Sainsburys and Asda and decided to give Waitrose a shot with their £20 off your first shop offer...

I booked a early delivery for this morning 7-8am. The guy came within that time, took forever to bring the shopping over from the van to my door, I always order roughly the same amount and I’ve never know it to be this long!

More unnerving was the fact that when he first came I met him at the door he dropped some bags at my step and told me he was off to bring more so I went in closed my front door as I have a toddler running about and a elder son getting ready for school and was standing in my kitchen unloading the bags when he walked straight in the door without knocking which was firmly closed and stood in my hallway with some more bags in his hand.... it made me feel pretty uncomfortable and no other delivery driver has ever done that...

Then I start to smell a lovely aroma of fabric conditioner to see it’s leaked all over a bag of produce which can still be used but all the packaging is slippery and coated in it ... no bottle of fabric conditioner to be seen ..

He informs me on the last bag about the leak and that he is unable to give it to me but he’s going to refund the couple bottles of bleach that he can see have also got covered in the conditioner ... regarding the bag from the kitchen he said take that up with the local branch..

I was expecting Waitrose to be better all round and to be honest they were the worst so far! Even worse than asda and that’s saying something !

Have emailed customer services but surely they aren’t supposed to walk in a closed front door without knocking and without asking ...

Oh dear. A flounce. Over a supermarket delivery. Sad

bellweather · 23/11/2017 12:42

Op fwiw most of the delivery drivers to my house have always knocked too. I have an indoor cat so I wouldn’t be too pleased if the driver had just let themselves in while carrying shopping as the cat could escape!
It’s happened once and now I always tell them I have a cat so they are a bit more careful

RadioGaGoo · 23/11/2017 12:43

Hahaha, I love it when people have to end up resorting to say 'triggered'. The OP will be calling everyone snowflakes next.

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 23/11/2017 12:44

I hope to God they don't give you a voucher, op. For complaining about someone doing his job the way he's been instructed to.

whiskyowl · 23/11/2017 12:44

@MissionItsPossible "Who will play you in the movie"

I spat out my tea laughing. Thank you!

Come on, accidents with fabric conditioner happen, and the guy was just trying to be helpful walking into your hallway.

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 23/11/2017 12:44

What could that pile of horseshit have triggered in anybody?!

ThymeLord · 23/11/2017 12:46

I'm triggered as fuck over here.

Sparklingbrook · 23/11/2017 12:46

I have never had a supermarket delivery. What is actually supposed to happen? Are there options as to what you want the person delivering to do or do you just tell them when they arrive?

MissionItsPossible · 23/11/2017 12:48

Sorry whisky! Grin

Bettyspants · 23/11/2017 12:48

I've never been refunded on the spot with any company, it's always had to be done via email.

streetlife70s · 23/11/2017 12:49

Bloody hell I know you take your life in your hands posting in AIBU but you’ve had some downright nasty responses OP.

If it’s any tiny consolation I ageee with you and I’d have been really weirded out. Yes I would have expected him to knock again and wait after I had told him to ‘leave the bags there’ AND shut the door. I think that’s a pretty clear message.

Maplestaple · 23/11/2017 12:49

Why were your unpacking in the kitchen when you had more shopping on its way? My delivery driver comes to my front door and I unload it and put it in my hallway or line the DC up and they take it off to where it needs to go. I try to be as quick as poss so he can get on his way to make more deliveries and do his job.

Ffs its people like you that get people the sack. He was doing his job, how long was he supposed to wait at the front door for?

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 23/11/2017 12:49

I'm triggered as fuck over here

Just a final update - just had a manger call me
From the local branch who was so lovely about the situation and agreed that it’s not normally how they do things so he is refunding half my shopping, sending me flowers and chocolates today before my school run ! Wow ! They may have got the service wrong this morning but I’m super happy with this outcome

Drip feeding triggers me Grin

PurpleMinionMummy · 23/11/2017 12:51

I've never invited a shopping delivery person into my house and unless you do its rude for them to assume and walk in.

Brighton5555 · 23/11/2017 12:51

Thanks x

What an unusually speedy resolution.

PumpkinSquash · 23/11/2017 12:52

Haaaaa TRIGGERED Grin
You sound a right one for that outburst alone, OP! Poor bloke, I feel sorry for him.
If you didn't want to hear if you were BU or not, why bloody ask in the first place?! Grin
I could get your point more if you didn't know he was there and just let himself in with a "coo-ee" and sauntered in. That wouldn't be on.
If he'd already brought some bags in, and said he was going back to get some more, why would you shut the door in his face? How rude!
What was he supposed to do, especially if there was a problem with the delivery, ie the burst fabric conditioner? Just ditch it on the doorstep and run off?
Then you'd have been moaning about the state of the delivery and how he didn't even refund you, horrible man! Hmm

Sparklingbrook · 23/11/2017 12:52

What did you actually say to the manager to get flowers and chocolates and a refund of half your shopping? Shock

I am really fearing for the delivery driver now.

ButchyRestingFace · 23/11/2017 12:52

yes I wanted to know your thoughts if any but I wasn’t expecting to be insulted at the same time

Don’t be coy!

Anyone who posts on AIBU these days is expecting anything from a light barbacuing to total incineration.

YABU, btw. Smile

user1495832265 · 23/11/2017 12:52

Well that was all sorted out very quickly.
Is it a bravo Waitrose moment, or is a Hmm more appropriate?

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 23/11/2017 12:53

I have a DS who doesn't like strangers in the house, a DD who would have been getting dressed for school downstairs at the time and two house cats.

I still think OP was being incredibly rude to shut the door mid delivery & proceed to unpack in the kitchen! I do push the door almost closed in between each box of stuff - but I just quickly dump the stuff in the kitchen & am back at the door ready to take the next box full before the delivery driver gets there!

The driver obviously thought that a) you wanted your shopping but b) you also wanted the door closed. So he brought the shopping through the door for you. Had you not already answered the door once, it would be different.

TacoFlavouredKisses · 23/11/2017 12:53

Thyme Grin

Is it just me or have there been a lot of mid-thread OP flounces recently?
