We went to the Lakes for my 40th to a place called Brimstone. Not a hotel as such but the room and service were amazing!!! Thoroughly recommend- it’s in the Lakes near Grasmere.

Rebeccaslicker · 20/11/2017 22:22

Armathwaite hall is nice - Lake District.
Rudding park - Yorkshire
Moddershall oaks - Staffordshire/cheshire oaks

HolyShmoly · 20/11/2017 22:28

I've stayed in some of these and visited some of these,

www.rockliffehall.com/ Durham/North Yorkshire Wonderful, but you're a bit out in the middle of nowhere so you can't go for a nice pint in a pub
www.daffodilhotel.co.uk/ Grasmere, the Lakes (fully recommend going to the gingerbread shop and stocking up on it all
le-petit-chateau.com/ Northumberland (been for a wedding and it's amazing, the rooms look incredible.)
www.crabandlobster.co.uk/ I haven't been there, but I have heard wonderful things

Seaham Hall is meant to be very good, I haven't been.

IggyAce · 20/11/2017 22:29

Wynyard Hall, redworth hall or Rockcliffe hall.

mumisnotmyname · 20/11/2017 22:30

The Devonshire Arms in Bolton Abbey is very nice and relaxed.

vinoandbrie · 20/11/2017 22:30

Gilpin Lodge in the Lakes - the spa lodges in particular

beadyboo · 20/11/2017 22:30

I’ve stayed at Northcote and the Grosvenor and loved them both. I’d also recommend Losehill in Derbyshire. More relaxed, but lovely food and nice scenery.
I hope you have a lovely time wherever you end up.

MrsPworkingmummy · 20/11/2017 22:30

Ooooo so many to choose from. For good food, I would recommend Jesmond Dene House (10 course tasting menu is divine) which you could combine with a city break in Newcastle. However, I think my favourite hotel is The Edinburgh Residence as their suites are amazing. If you like quirky, the Crab and Lobster will meet your expectations - we had a sauna and a hot-tub in our suite and the meal there was pretty good. Too be honest, you're spoilt for choice -there are some fantastic hotels in the North East!

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 20/11/2017 22:31

I like the Houndsgate in Darlington.

FlorenceandtheWashingMachine · 20/11/2017 22:36

If you like smaller places, the Lord Crewe Arms in Blanchland is lovely (and just recommended by Tatler) www.lordcrewearmsblanchland.co.uk/

I have not stayed there but the tiny spa and the food at Walwick Hall near Hadrian's Wall are great and the guests always look very happy! walwickhall.com/

Metellaestinhortobibit · 20/11/2017 22:42

Forestside in Grasmere...absolutely superb!

MaximaDeWit · 20/11/2017 22:51

Rudding Park near Harrogate is fantastic.

foodiefil · 20/11/2017 22:55

Wynyard hall is very impressive

Jesmond dene is impressive and near Newcastle city centre

Ramside Hall Hotel has a lovely new spa

If you were to give us more info I'd ask for:

Where are you used to staying?
Where in the North?
What is the occasion?
Do you want to eat in the hotel?

For info:

I like to eat in (for special occasions) Michelin star restaurants, L'Enclume, Raby Hunt, Black Swan, Star Inn, Yorke Arms, Hand & Flowers.

Justbookedasummmerholiday · 20/11/2017 22:58

Lumley Castle serve brought in frozen food and frozen bread buns.

loobylou10 · 20/11/2017 23:01

Rudding Park in Harrogate
Brimstone in the Lakes - the reading room was amazing!

foodiefil · 20/11/2017 23:03

@Justbookedasummmerholiday you can only rely on your building and setting for so long ey?

(I am in agreement with you re: frozen food)

trashcanjunkie · 20/11/2017 23:04

The Joiners Arms is gorgeous and owned by Le Petit Chateau people. Also Hotel duVin in Newcastle but they’re a bit snooty and not very clean.

FamilyOhNo · 20/11/2017 23:05

Matfen Hall in Northumberland is very good too.

They have a smaller room for private dining which might work for you.
