What are your favourite hotels ever. I mean luxury, great food, etc etc

Trying to plan a 40th and this is my inspiration!

Number 43 in Arnside. Special place for us - headed there day after we got married. Fab boutique hotel. Memorable, just right balance of attention and peace. Highly recommend!

ItsAHardKn0ckLife1 · 20/11/2017 23:06

Really justbooked ? My neighbour is a chef there, i night have to pull him up on that Grin

ItsAHardKn0ckLife1 · 20/11/2017 23:06

Might* obvs

ChameNangerRanger · 20/11/2017 23:07

Ooh, now this is tricky. I challenged myself to reply to the 3rd thread down in AiBU, but this is awkward as I don't know any nice hotels in the North.....
Anyway,
YANBU.

Bumblina · 20/11/2017 23:07

Yes Rudding Park was very nice and the rooftop pool is fab. DP wasn't a fan of the price (!) but it was a treat !

foodiefil · 20/11/2017 23:07

@ItsAHardKn0ckLife1 chefs can sadly be 'heater uppers' at times

Lucienandjean · 20/11/2017 23:08

Swindon Park at Masham. swintonestate.com
Rudding Park, Harrogate. www.ruddingpark.co.uk
Langley Castle in Northumberland. www.langleycastle.co.uk

Seaham Hall is amazing and the Spa is fab but it is pretty pricey and they don't seem to have deals very often. Jesmond Dene House does lovely food and is handy for Newcastle city centre.

JaceLancs · 20/11/2017 23:13

Mitton Hall
Jesmond dene
Inn at the lakes
No 43 Arnside

LoniceraJaponica · 20/11/2017 23:21

FlorenceandtheWashingMachine We ate at the Lord Crewe Arms a couple of years ago. The food was fantastic and the place is so full of character. The staff were really friendly as well.

B&b strictly but gorgeous. Available as a private hire as well if you wanted dinner party think he does that.

Near trough of bowland which is stunning.

Lumley Castle is lovely but too many drunk student balls (me and my chums to be fair)

NSEA · 21/11/2017 06:18

Thank you for the replies! Didn’t expect so many. I will trawl through them now.

In answer to @foodiefil questions
Where are you used to staying?
Good hotels. Probably 4 star rather than 5. Often happy to stay at premier inns though. We like modern hotels when staying abroad, favourite hotels have been in LA and Monterey.

Where in the North?
We are in West Yorkshire, but happy to drive 2 hours or so.

What is the occasion?
For my dh 40th. I want a nice surprise.

Do you want to eat in the hotel?
Good food is a bonus. Especially

Rudding Park in Harrogate - exceptional.

raspberrytart · 21/11/2017 06:28

Askham hall, Cumbria
Inn at whitewell, clitheroe.
Linthwaite house hotel, Cumbria

mashpot · 21/11/2017 06:32

I think Swinton Park, linked up thread, is nicer than Rudding. Seaham Hall is good if you want a Spa.

meikyo · 21/11/2017 07:04

Lyzzick Hall near Keswick is a lovely small country house hotel. Outstanding food and service. It only has a small pool and sauna, no spa treatments, but does have superb hiking right outside. We went earlier this month, it was fantastic.

Collaborate · 21/11/2017 07:20

Lots of good hotels already mentioned.

Our favourite though is the Lakeside Hotel at the southern end of lake Windermere.

BarbaraofSevillle · 21/11/2017 08:19

Rudding Park have just refurbished their spa and it looks fab. I haven't got round to going yet but plan to.

LadyDowagerHatt · 21/11/2017 08:41

Another recommendation for the Lord Crewe - we have stayed there twice and are going again for my friend’s 40th (she is hiring the private dining room). Can’t wait, the food is amazing! It is a perfect winter hotel - drinking red wine by the log fire after a walk in the snow was a lovely way to spend the first weekend in January!

ILikeyourHairyHands · 21/11/2017 08:51

Do what Foodie said and go to L'Enclume, we were there on Friday and stayed in one of the suites, dinner was amazing, I've already booked a return visit.

Plus, Cartmel is lovely.

PidgeonSpray · 21/11/2017 09:10

Another vote for Swinton Park in North Yorks

And Rudding near Harrogate

Stay clear of Lumley castle it's very run down

I can also recommend carltontowers.co.uk near North yorks/Selby it's not a hotel as such. It's a provate statley home owned by the duke of norfolk. The website doesn't do it justice. It's breathtaking and has about 20 bedrooms I think.

TimFromRuislip · 21/11/2017 11:51

Yes Lumley Castle and Langley Castle a bit past their best these days.

CherryChasingDotMuncher · 21/11/2017 11:53

Aphrodite’s Lodge, Bowness in Windermere (Lake District). It’s a themed hotel, but very classy and absolutely stunning
