Dad taking dd to ladies toilet

MN - help dh and I with a disagreement please.

When dd(4) needs the loo in a public place, he takes her to the ladies' loos. I told him that women don't like that and he should take her to the men's loo. Aibu or is he?

My preference- cubicles with sinks inside every toilet and available for use by both sexes without the need to share space. Not keen on unisex where this is not the case. Anecdotally, when I was at uni, we went to a bar in freshers week which had unisex toilets (which everyone thought was such a novelty). A friend from my course came back from the toilets hysterical because some fucking creep (also on our course) had groped her between the legs and asked if she wanted to fuck him in one of the cubicles while she was washing her hands. So, on balance, it seems men can't be trusted not to assault women if everything is unisex.

Ewanwhosearmy · 19/11/2017 12:04

People are fixating on this "individual cubicles so nothing to see" argument. For me, the more important issue is that you very rarely find a ladies toilet without a massive queue. My absolute pet hate is queuing with my DD for the ladies and seeing large boys in front of me; not because they might see something but because they are adding to our waiting time when 99% of the time there is no queue for the Gents.

Recently at a NT place there were 2 grandparents changing a baby in the ladies. WTF? Why does it take 2 of them?

Valerrie · 19/11/2017 12:07

Since when has having a child made someone more vulnerable than being disabled? Confused

Must be a grandparent thing. My parents seem incapable of doing anything separately although thankfully i don't think df has ever used the ladies loos. Gets a bit pathetic though even the need to turn everything into a family event trumps the inconvenience to everyone else.

ChocoLeibnizAddict · 19/11/2017 12:12

are people suggesting able bodied people use the disabled toilets here?

Depends on individual circumstances.

I took DD in to the disabled loos at asda the other day because I had her in the big trolly and was desperate for the loo.

I'd rather a man went in with his DD than the ladies loo.

FruitCider · 19/11/2017 12:12

I went out with my child to said shopping centre this morning and did not use the disabled loo. The result was that my child had to urinate with the cubicle door open as they refused to let me shut the door unless I came in and I couldn’t close the door around us both!

Why do toilet doors open inwards anyway?!?! If they opened outwards that would resolve the problem! I’m really uncomfortable with making my child urinate without privacy.

I agree the doors are a pain in the arse.

Not ideal to have to leave the door open we always told our Dds though to check they can do the locks befire they close the door and if they have trouble to not lock it so yes they have probably done it with the door open too. Another reason why boys and men should not be in the ladies

Thats absolutely appalling.

The only individual circumstances it depends on is whether you or your child has a disability

ChocoLeibnizAddict · 19/11/2017 12:44

Like I said, I was desperate and there was no space for me to put my trolly in the ladies. I'm not going to block the ladies loo and pee with the door open.

Don’t most Asda’s have the parent and children toilets now? For people in this exact situation / baby changing / feeding room?
Incredibly entitled to think you can just waltz into the disabled toilets because you didn’t plan your trip correctly. Next time, just fucking wet yourself and you might, might have the tiniest insight into how fucking embarrassing it can be for those with genuine disabilities who can’t access the only** facility they can use because your entitled arse felt you could take it away from them.
Heaven forbid you leave your shopping unattended.

Ilovelampandchair · 19/11/2017 12:46

I've no problem with anyone being in any toilet for a legitimate toilet reason.

ChocoLeibnizAddict · 19/11/2017 12:47

I really don't care. I've become in continent since giving birth so I find it hard to keep it in.

And no, there was only men's, ladies and a disabled toilet. No parent/child toilet.

Gileswithachainsaw · 19/11/2017 12:47

Don't most supermarkets have trolly parks so you can leave them to use toilets/cafe/ try on clothes etc

ChocoLeibnizAddict · 19/11/2017 12:47

You mean heaven forbid I leavey toddler unattended?

GruffaloPants · 19/11/2017 12:48

Wouldn't bother me. Is he meant to take her into the gents where there are guys at urinals.

Sayyouwill · 19/11/2017 12:50

Was she fused to the trolly?

Sayyouwill · 19/11/2017 12:51

One day, if/when you or someone you love suffers a genuine disability, you’ll sharp learn to care.

Gileswithachainsaw · 19/11/2017 12:51

Yes gruffalo

Just like all dads and older brothers etc have to do.

Gileswithachainsaw · 19/11/2017 12:55

Cos actually even in the extremely unlikely event someone caught sight of a penis of a man at a urinal. Unlikely unless you were stood right there looking,

There's a massive difference between someone deliberately waving it in your face and deliberately trying to intimidate you and be inappropriate and a split second accidental glance as you are hurried last a urinal.

My mother is disabled. She just said that she wouldn't mind if I used the toilet as I'm in continent.

You're trying to start a fight. Go see a therapist for your anger issues

Sayyouwill · 19/11/2017 12:59

My dad used to nip into the men’s, announce he was bringing his daughter in so the men in there didn’t get startled or anything, then walk me in with his hand over my eyes into the clearest cubicle.
I remember it smelling horrible but if I needed the loo, where else were we meant to go?

Sayyouwill · 19/11/2017 13:01

So because your mother said it was okay you’ve assumed that you now can use the disabled toilets? Does she also issue out blue badges?

I’m disabled and I do mind if you use the toilet. If you are medically incontinent then that is a disability and you should probably seek help.

ChocoLeibnizAddict · 19/11/2017 13:02

Sick of you now. Bye

Sayyouwill · 19/11/2017 13:03

What a lovely person you are.
