What’s happened to supermarket prices today?

Went to Tesco and coop today and there’s a noticeable increase in prices on almost everything. What’s happened, or is it just my perception?

no its not i said the same thing at aldis today did more or less the same shopping i do every week and from the beginning of this year the total has crept up bit by bit, what was around £60 in january is now coming to around £80

It’s Brexit. The pound is weak since the referendum so imports are more expensive.

Havent been shopping today but I do know that the thought of buying butter horrifies me now. Its suddenly extortionate.

I only noticed it in roll on deodorant. Usually a good choice in wilkos for about a quid but apart from one they were all £2 +. Reckon it's so they can discount heavily from black friday onwards.

I was going to start my Christmas shopping this weekend but am going to wait I think.

Definitely brexit and this is just the beginning! Once interest rates really get going, and they will go up, the increase in costs across the board will hurt. Especially mortgages.

DH and df are business/financial brains and everything they've said has happened in the last ten years. Their predictions for the next ten are bleak in terms of disposal income and the cost of living. Their advice is get your mortgages down now and you'll bolster the hit. Ignore at your peril.

How can brexit be the reason why even uk produced foods (with no import costs) are going up at the same rate? e.g. Rachel's organic butter now £2.00 in Waitrose, it was £1.60 just a few months ago.

Brexit weakened the pound. It never recovered its former level. But instead we all keep being told to 'cut back' and tighten our belts and austerity shite and inflation's already peaked and idiots keep falling for it.

It's brexitm, plus businesses taking advantage of brexit, plus prices go up anyway. Prices don't go down ever do they.

eg milk imported and then turned into other products in the UK
and as the EU nationals start to leave wages will have to rise to get the jobs done
so inflation will climb higher

ontherightpath because we don’t live in isolation, all industries received products from abroad. And who ever heard of companies anticipating economic difficulties to ensure they survive ... oh yeah it’s called forward planning. You can’t even be treated for an illness without using treatments from abroad. Scientific endeavour predicts a counties economic prosperity 10-20 yrs hence, but science is already being decimated by Brexit. Plus, haven’t you seen areas of farming are in crisis as low paid European farm workers desert us after having enough of this British jingoistic nonsense.
