It's a common theme on AIBU?: my employer is doing something terrible. Sooner or later someone asks the OP if they are a member of a trade union, which they never are (or else they wouldn't be posting in the first place).

If you can't be bothered to join a union, please don't complain or ask us to sort your problems when your employer treats you like shit.

I really don't have the time to explain my entire loathing for a political party and its ideologies. It also isn't the topic of this thread!

Oh dear. It seems that you don’t really know why. Labour are a bit too workerish for you and you think you’re fancy. Is that it?

And yes you do have time. The length of your other posts shows that. Come on FlowerPot1234 be a sport. Just share 1 or 2 Labour policies that you ‘detest’.

The rest of the post was for Eolian. Sorry that wasn’t clear and thanks for the little faces. Here are some for you GrinGrinGrin

crikey op who died and made you head prefect of AIBU?

No one. OP simply raised a question. An AIBU. Which is the point of AIBU.

Oh dear. It seems that you can't really understand English.

Oh dear god. You're one of those, aren't you?

dislike for Labour isn't a reason not to seek the protection of union membership.

Well, actually it is a very good reason. The Unions fund Labour.

Some do. Mine has opted out. They want to be free to lobby all parties.

Traffig · 22/11/2017 16:08

You can opt out of the part of the political levy in your contribution if you don't want it to go to the Labour Party ( and your union donates to Labour)

In Northern Ireland trade union members are legally exempt from contributing to a trade union’s political fund.

Here, you must ‘contract in’ to the political fund. The political fund does not all go to the Labour party by the way it is used for other things.
This applies to all Northern Ireland union members, regardless of where your union's headquarters are.

Traffig · 22/11/2017 16:14

I don't think this group belong to the Labour Party but seem to be trade union members
www.toryworkers.co.uk/

Also, just watched Phillip Hammonds Budget and the announcement that re Training for jobs, the Government will be working on a new initiative in partnership with the TUC.

So.... nope... I don't buy into all this ill informed rhetoric and blanket statements further up stream.

Norman Tebbit used to be a union rep for the pilots union BALPA.. he even was involved in organising a strike back in the day...

Then he changed his plane for a bike...Smile

What’s ‘one of those’.

Oh dear. It seems that you can't really understand English.

That’s not true is it.

Come on FlowerPot1234 indulge me. Just one then. One Labour policy which you detest and which resulted in your loathing for the party.

slightlyglittermaned · 22/11/2017 20:52

Is it really that relevant?

The point is, "I don't like Labour" is a weak excuse to not join a union, given that not all unions even fund Labour as EBearhug pointed out.

Walnutwhiplash · 22/11/2017 21:16

Some unions are amazing; some are shit. For 20 yrs I paid into a union (one that doesn't fund the LP) which, when my employer decided to tear up the job description of everyone in my dept, negotiated a lucrative deal for the men in the dept and threw the women in the dept under the bus.

Arealhumanbeing · 22/11/2017 21:19

Is it really that relevant?

Not really. Its the ‘loathing’ and ‘detesting’ which annoys me.

Always the same type. Very happy to express their opinion, never ever able to explain it. And usually have nothing to look forward to under a conservative government. They just don’t realise that because they won’t read the effing manifestos and the Labour (workers) party doesn’t suit their self image.

For the record I have some extremely fancy tendencies. Smile My feet are on the ground though.
