Chocolate reindeer incident - who was bu?

EscapeFromHubby · 17/11/2017 08:33

Last night I was eating a chocolate reindeer. Had bought it a few days ago but DH wasn't overly pleased I hadn't got him one as well. Ate part of it then left it on the living room side table as I had to go out to the kitchen to do something.

One of the dogs then comes running out of the living room with foil in his mouth chased by DH was says dog has eaten reindeer. Great! My fault, shouldn't have left it on the side. But then DH and DD1 keep giggling about something.

DH and DD1 can be quite the jokers so I think they've eaten the reindeer and are blaming dog. This goes on for a while with them saying it was the dog, no it wasn't, they might've had a bit and got carried away and now it's gone, no they didn't really eat. So I don't know what they've done with it! I start looking around to see if it's hidden anywhere and DD1 starts warm/cold/hot etc. By this point I'm getting really pissed off. It's my chocolate and I want it back.

Then I have the bright idea that if DH has taken my reindeer I'll tip some of his beer away. I tell him this and head to the kitchen, get the bottles out of the fridge and open them. DD1 tells DH she thinks I'm serious and perhaps he should stop me but he doesn't, just more chuckling. So the beer goes down the sink. DH storms out, clearly pissed at me for tipping his beer away. Back in living room reindeer has magically reappeared on table untouched with DD1 trying to say it was there all along. DH then went to bed with the raging arse.

So WIBU to tip DH beer away in return for taking my reindeer (he did have plenty of chances to stop the joke before it got to that point) or was he BU for then getting arsey with me?

Why didn't you share it?

Only1scoop · 17/11/2017 10:04

At least this wasn’t a

“DH just ate the last salted caramel should I LTB” twee load of crap.

I wince when I read those

Floralnomad · 17/11/2017 10:04

I reckon the dog is the only one who comes out of this looking reasonable , and the OP looks the most stupid and unreasonable .

WomblingThree · 17/11/2017 10:06

I feel the amount of fuss regarding chocolate and dogs borders on hysteria on here sometimes. My idiot black lab ate a giant toblerone, foil and cardboard included. Our vet just laughed when I phoned them in a panic and told us to keep an eye on him. It’s totally subjective.

Jokes are only funny if everyone laughs, but let’s face it, he only did it because you were being selfish. Rubbing his and your DD’s face in it that you had only bought chocolate for you was pathetic. I’m a right miserable cow, and even I can’t imagine not asking if anyone else wants a bit (whilst hoping that they don’t). If I hadn’t bought everyone some chocolate, I would eat it while they weren’t there, or I’d just not be a tightarse and buy one each.

Glumglowworm · 17/11/2017 10:06

Totally childish all round

If your DH and DD are quite the jokers and you're not, I can see that would piss you off after awhile.

This incident ON ITS OWN, went too far.

BUT, if this is symptomatic of the way they behave generally, then good for you for putting in a boundary and letting them know they've gone too far.

Clandestino · 17/11/2017 10:07

Don't forget to include the reason "DH ate my reindeer and blamed it on the dog".

No, please, don't do it pet. Be a good girl and apologise to your family.

WeirdAndPissedOff · 17/11/2017 10:08

Rebecca - all types of chocolate are toxic to all breeds of dog (and cat), but for lower-cocoa types of chocolate they have to eat quite a large quantity of chocolate to have an effect.

I think it's about 1 ounce per pound of body weight for milk chocolate - so a terrier would have to eat around half a kilo of milk chocolate, even more if white chocolate, to do any harm.
Dark or bakers chocolate is more dangerous, and potentially a few squares are toxic to a small dog.
However on the lower end of toxicity you're more likely to just end up with vomiting and diarrhoea.

Posting for the inevitable deletion message.

Rebeccaslicker · 17/11/2017 10:09

Thank you weird, that makes sense

Rebeccaslicker · 17/11/2017 10:09

I've never seen a cat eat chocolate; they seem to be a bit more discriminating than dogs!

JennyOnAPlate · 17/11/2017 10:10

Yanbu. I’d have poured the beer away and shoved the empty bottle up his arse.

Loungingbutnotforlong · 17/11/2017 10:10

The problem is- none of us were there and none of us know the OP or her DH. Is she really a highly strung, humourless drama queen (greedy and wasteful to boot), or is she a stressed out, hardworking Mum who wanted 5 mind peace, a little treat and instead got teased and bullied by her own husband until she snapped.
I actually feel more sorry for the OP and her DD- if her DH was really such a light hearted joker and all round good guy, he would have stopped the joke/ bullying when he saw that his wife was upset. He flounced when his beer was poured away, but somehow thought his wife should find it hilarious that he had eaten her chocolate- mean!

frankie001 · 17/11/2017 10:13

I now want a chocolate reindeer.

mummyhaschangedhername · 17/11/2017 10:13

All of you are being unreasonable!

There comes a point with a "joke" where it starts to become bullying, I can understand why the OP started to get upset about it. When it stops being funny for all involved, the joke should be over.

GiveMeStrengh · 17/11/2017 10:32

I would have done the same tbh (though i would have drank the beer not wasted it) I take my chocolate seriously haha but usually if im having a treat, my DP and DS would get a treat too so maybe next time you fancy a chocolate reindeer, buy one for DH and DD aswell just to save your sanity if nothing else

Crumbs1 · 17/11/2017 10:34

Really? Are you both old enough to have a child? You’re married so all things are equally both of yours. Why would you waste the beer because you were teased. Have you no sense of humour? Did you not offer it around in the first place?

Aridane · 17/11/2017 10:39

Why the inevitable deletion message?

PercySimone · 17/11/2017 10:44

My children know never to leave chocolate where the dog could get it. You sound very childish. If my children behaved in the manner you described: petty squabbling and tit for tat, I would have put the reindeer in the bin and sent them to bed. Ridiculous.

thatcatpidgeon · 17/11/2017 10:45

Really? Are you 12? The not sharing, the not being concerned that a dog may have eaten chocolate, the waste of money and alcohol of throwing away perfectly good beer, the doing this in front of a child and setting a bad example, anyone in this scenario finding any of that acceptable or amusing. Wowsers.

highwoodwitch · 17/11/2017 10:45

Chocolate, reindeer, beer, kids, vet, bullying - so funny. Don't believe a word of it.

GnomeDePlume · 17/11/2017 10:47

I call Reverse and it's the dog who is posting.

AddictedtoSnickers · 17/11/2017 10:49

Madness for buying expensive Christmas gifting chocolate in November and eating it yourself! I often wonder why all this chocolate crap is for sale earlier and earlier each year...now I know, people are fucking eating it!! Do you scoff advent calendars in November too? If it was a 100g reindeer it will have about 60g of sugar in it! And all the stupid carry on with the dog and the beer....wtf?
