to wonder why Corbyn isn't more popular considering the battering Theresa May/the Tories is getting?

The Tories/Theresa May have been getting an absolute kicking in the press recently (rightly deserved) and every day there seems to be a new controversy. May seems completely inefficient and doesn't seem to know whether she is coming or going (literally).

However, I am surprised that Corbyn/Labour is not polling higher. On all the polls I have looked at his rating seems to be either equal to, very slightly above or very slightly below May. He should be well out in front at this point.

I am not a Corbyn/Labour fan (although agree with a lot of their policies) but I am wondering why is he not polling better?

Well could it be said that the Right likes its politics personal? I believe there has been research on the thoughts of left/right.

I think leftist ideas are more entrenched in philosophy and science. It may explain why many on the right get really hung up on individual leaders.

To me, it matters most that Tory philosophy, its economics, its morality, is deeply faulted.

Gingernaut · 18/11/2017 08:08

Surely, objective science has no political slant?

Dozer · 18/11/2017 08:11

I despise Tory politics and antics but also dislike Corbyn and many of his immediate team and won’t vote Labour while he’s leader.

He wasn’t respected by his Parliamentary colleagues for a start.
Flim flammed over Brexit. Many of the policies would not be affordable.

Rebeccaslicker · 18/11/2017 08:23

Philosophy doesn't pay the bills.

When someone can show me how corbyn's paradise can be paid for, I'll read with interest. I haven't seen a single convincing article or post or broadcast yet!

Alltheprettyseahorses · 18/11/2017 09:12

This isn't relevant to the thread any more, but I wanted to take issue with makeourfuture's point upthread about googling Corbyn's crowds. I'd like to point out that camera angles are wonderful things.

Pictures that come up (I have personal experience of some):
Glastonbury - yes, there was a crowd but they certainly weren't there for him, were they?
Liverpool - I walk past St George's Plateau 6 times a week. Takes under a minute. It is less than 100mx25m and is full of statues and a whacking great WW1 monument. You won't get 10,000 people in there. Nor was the road closed as was claimed - in photos you can clearly see buses going past.
Southport - a group of us had taken the kids to the fair that day and saw the rally when we walked down towards the pier afterwards. There were a couple of hundred at most, almost all bussed in from outside. People sent amused letters to the paper about how few attendees there were.
The Wirral - us lefty types were getting sent invites begging anyone in the northwest to go to support Jeremy or whatnot. He got 200ish inc his own entourage so gatecrashed a pop concert.
Scarborough - here's a great camera angle fake. Look at the publicity shot compared to how few people were actually there in the picture.

I see Corbyn's lot claim that he has the biggest rallies since Churchill. Nah, they're completely having you on. It's all fake and manipulated.

Lol, wonderful post ^

Rebeccaslicker · 18/11/2017 09:25

Wow, fake news! Sad!

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 18/11/2017 09:26

@Alltheprettyseahorses brilliant post

CardinalSin · 18/11/2017 09:33

Great research!

TammySwansonTwo · 18/11/2017 09:35

That photo is pretty misleading though isn't it? What you have there in sight is the upper tier with people, as you'd expect, right up against the railings or they wouldn't see anything. No indication or visibility of the lower level, and no indication in his POV shot that the upper level is more full that it appears in the wide shot.

If you're honestly saying that the media is representing Corbyn as more successful then he is, then I can only assume you're sniffing glue.

Alltheprettyseahorses · 18/11/2017 09:57

TammySwansonTwo - the only misleading photo is the publicity shot of Corbyn. It is clearly angled to make it look like there are far more people there than actually present. I also spoke about personal experience.

Please don't start slinging 'sniffing glue' insults because I pointed out something that you don't like. The media portrayal of Corbyn's popularity is based on press releases, which, having seen some 'crowds' and knowing a few of the places referenced, I would argue are misleading. I don't want to be caught up in a whooooops exchange (wtf happened there Hmm Shock Grin ).

makeourfuture · 18/11/2017 10:00

I have never been to St George's Plateau.

I am seeing some images of Hillsborough commemorative events claiming thousands in attendance. How many people are you suggesting the area will hold?

makeourfuture · 18/11/2017 10:18

When someone can show me how corbyn's paradise can be paid for, I'll read with interest.

Well I will have to yield to those with more knowledge; it is pretty much acknowledged by any economist worth their salt that cutting fiscal expenditure during tough economic times makes things worse.

It has been shown time and again, with the only exception being when very high inflation exists.

Economy 101.

Alltheprettyseahorses · 18/11/2017 10:18

makeourfuture - at Hillsborough, I think the plateau was just for families/officials (but don't quote me on that). We were up past the Market and didn't see that area but basically Lime Street and a huge surrounding area was closed off. It's not the same as Corbyn Hmm.

makeourfuture · 18/11/2017 10:28

Is the plateau just that bit in front of the building, or do they close the road?

neverpostonAIBU · 18/11/2017 11:09

Never post on AIBU. Because if you don't agree with the vipers they swoop, and get personal very quickly - whilst claiming it is the other party and then plead Confused on the mud slinging. Off to the nice boards. Knitting anyone.

Dozer · 18/11/2017 11:16

Even if Corbyn HAD drawn massive crowds, if they were already Labour voters it’s irrelevant: to get elected under our present system you need to win lots of seats across the UK areas.

TammySwansonTwo · 18/11/2017 11:28

No, you're wrong - it shows nothing of the sort. The area with the majority of the crowd in his POV shot is not visible in the wide shot. You can only see the upper level.

TammySwansonTwo · 18/11/2017 11:30

If you look closely at the wide angle you can see that every visible area of the lower level is full of people but not enough is visible to make an assessment.

makeourfuture · 18/11/2017 11:37

Yes Tammy.

I will say one thing we know for certain, the Tories did horribly in the last election. It was a terrible error on their part. And it shows they are in real trouble.

This we can all agree on.

makeourfuture · 18/11/2017 11:41

And I think we all can agree that Britain is awakening again to a simple truth:

For the many, not the few.

Gingernaut · 18/11/2017 11:51

And I think we all can agree that Britain is awakening again to a simple truth:

You really believe that, don't you? 🤣

There are a lot of voters like me.

Repelled by both Labour and Conservativex, disgusted by by the behaviour of the Lib Dems when they fell in with the Tories and would never vote UKIP or RLMP.

As far as I'm concerned, there's no one to vote for.

Lillybilly20 · 18/11/2017 12:26

Gingernaut I totally agree with you! There is no one to vote for. So much so that I had to vote Green 😂 for the many not the few what tosh, is that what Labour said when they were murdering millions of people in Iraq? And Jeremy Corbyn? What a horror! He actually went on a holiday funded by hamas whose main aim is to kill all Jews. He is a hypocrite who went to a posh school and earns £100k a year. He would fuck the country, I mean he thinks venezuela is a good model haha! . Socialism is parasitic. And he is biggest brexiteer of all but he hasnt got the balls to admit it. What a nob

TammySwansonTwo · 18/11/2017 12:43

But the amoral shits we have now, they're just dandy? We don't have many options do we? The priority has to be to get these bastards out.

Lillybilly20 · 18/11/2017 12:50

TammySwansonTwo But it would be 'out the frying pan and into the fire'. I could never vote labour again after all those people they murdered.

We need a new party that is balanced
