The other day DD asked me if the Queen shops at IKEA.
I'm sitting at and IKEA desk drinking from IKEA glasses. everything's bloody IKEA.
Is there anyone who has NO IKEA at all?
No I don't work for them!

The hemnes range is great, my kids have the daybeds in their rooms, they're so practical for when people come to stay.

LaurieMarlow · 14/11/2017 10:30

Is it possible to have nothing at all? Nothing? Not even a washing up brush or a loo brush whoops, forgot this was mumsnet

CoffeeWithMyOxygen · 14/11/2017 10:30

The only Ikea we have that I can think of is a hand me down bookcase. It’s just not really our style, I don’t like that most of their furniture is modern straight lines.

EvilDoctorBallerinaRoastDuck · 14/11/2017 10:34

Ours is now. DD used to have an IKEA bed, but DF broke it while "helping us to move. Hmm

Fireandflames666 · 14/11/2017 10:36

I have nothing from Ikea at this moment in time. However i will be going after Christmas to get my children some bedroom furniture 😂.

Emerencealwayshopeful · 14/11/2017 10:44

My bedroom is ikea free.

Expedit/kallax units in front hallway, kitchen, family room and upstairs landing.

Billy bookcases in DH’s room, lounge room, 2 kids bedrooms

Two of the kids are asleep in ikea expandable beds

Most drinking glasses and random other kitchenware from Ikea.

And there are two ikea kids tables and a number of chairs in the back of the garden/cubby house area.

This thread is the first time I’ve actually listed it all out. I was going to say that child 3 has no ikea in her bedroom but she actually has both the doll bed and the blue canopy thing over her bed. And I lied earlier. I do have ikea in my room, the mirror came from there.

I’ve never ever understood the people who visit ikea as a fun activity. But between my ever growing need for more billy and expidit units and how often we seem to need replacement drinking glasses I may have become one of those people without meaning to.

FlowerPot1234 · 14/11/2017 10:47

I have 6 IKEA teaspoons and that's it.

ForagingForFaerieGold · 14/11/2017 10:47

No Ikea in 'ere.
I dislike most modern flat pack anyway (although I have a bit from Argos) prefer solid wood and get it 2nd hand. I have had a few Ikea catalogues pushed through the door over the years and never liked the look of any of it. Not my style. I probably couldnt afford it anyway. 2nd hand is cheaper (if you know where to look) and often better.

MinervaSaidThar · 14/11/2017 10:51

I could definitely be IKEA free. i think I have some spice jars and spaghetti jar and a bathroom stool.

And our furniture was pretty cheap from elsewhere (£700 for a corner sofa that was much comfier thanthe one we tried in Ikea).

PrimalLass · 14/11/2017 10:53

I’m near Edinburgh, but have paid the £35 delivery for large items (lots of Billys and a desk) and it was totally worth it.

chatwoo · 14/11/2017 11:02

Would love to have less ikea, but always shy away from spending the big bucks on solid wood furniture! We have:

  • King bed in main bedroom
  • Desk and weird triangular shelf unit that leans against wall, in spare bedroom.
  • Nothing in bathrooms and no soft furnishings.
  • Two bookcases (not Billy!), standing lamp, rug, dining table/chairs, TV cabinet and stools that we use as side tables
  • A few small items in kitchen.
loveka · 14/11/2017 11:02

Absolutely no IKEA. I don't rrslly want my houe to look lime everyone elses. Obviously I wouldn't critisise those who do.

I read that the reason why antique furniture is so much cheaper now is because people do to IKEA.

cdtaylornats · 14/11/2017 11:11

Mine, never set foot in the place.

moonmaker · 14/11/2017 11:46

Love IKEA
From ikea :

All cutlery , crockery and glasses
Place mats
Vases
Bath towels
Dds wardrobes , bunk and chests
Ds cot and toys
Our bed , wardrobe and chests
Bathroom cabinet
Pretty much the house.

Coconutspongexo · 14/11/2017 11:50

I live in an IKEA free house!
Never stepped foot in the place either

toomuchtooold · 14/11/2017 11:57

We have an armchair and a table that we bought from John Lewis and Heal's back when it looked like we might never have kids and we were experimenting with the idea of having expensive furniture. Then the IVF worked and it was back to wall to wall Ikea. Literally other than those two pieces of furniture, there is no non ikea furniture in our house. We've moved around a lot so it's useful both because it's cheap but also because there's the same stuff everywhere, so you can move country and then finish kitting out your hall with bookshelves. The only problem is the pillows, which are all a different size in each country. German ones are the weirdest - massive, or else long and skinny. Swiss ones are a bit shorter and fatter than UK, as are Belgian. We have pillows and pillowcases from all of them. It is really annoying.

YouDidNotJustSayThat · 14/11/2017 11:58

Mine was until someone gave us some malm drawers last year. Changed our view on IKEA completely and we've just bought 3 chests of drawers, a triple wardrobe and a shoe cabinet and I can see them lasting years!

BarbaraofSevillle · 14/11/2017 12:02

Excellent YouDid. I often wonder if those people who go on about how flimsy Ikea furniture is have even been to the place let alone built, owned or even touched their furniture.

TammySwansonTwo · 14/11/2017 12:07

You can actually get a lot of stuff delivered from Ikea for £7.50 - there's a massive weight limit, but some things they can't send that way (particularly heavy pieces of furniture, mirrors etc).

Went with my husband when we moved - we only have a small car so I made a list of what we wanted, took it to a member of staff, they picked it all and delivered it next day for £35. Bloody bargain.

TammySwansonTwo · 14/11/2017 12:08

Ooh I love big German square feather pillows. I need some!

DeleteOrDecay · 14/11/2017 12:15

Another one here with Ikea in every room. We have 3 Kallax units, a trofast, bathroom cabinet, bathroom mirror, the famous Ikea toy kitchen, bedroom mirror, and apart from their bed the rest of the furniture in DC’s room is Ikea too. And that’s just the big stuff. We also have Ikea cups plates bowls, cheese graters, tea lights etc.

I love it, so cheap but nice looking and decent quality. Great if you have a young family. Means it’s not a huge loss if something gets ruined, but the furniture still looks nice iykwim.

MrGrumpy01 · 14/11/2017 12:15

Very little. A CD rack that I have had years and the fitted sheets and mattress protectors for our bunk beds. They are continental sized and IKEA is by far the cheapest. We have 2 children's towels and a couple of soft toys.

I don't have one that close so isn't somewhere I go.

DeleteOrDecay · 14/11/2017 12:24

They only serve Swedish meatballs in the café and are really pleased with themselves about it.

Erm, no they don’t. Last time I went to Ikea, the person I went with had salmon from the cafe.

Also lol at wanting the Argos catalogue instead. Ikea furniture is far superior to Argos which has always been very flimsy in my experience.

Some people are very bitter towards Ikea for some strange reasonGrin

VioletCharlotte · 14/11/2017 12:27

Every every room in my house contains something from IKEA.

I bloody love IKEA!

hazell42 · 14/11/2017 12:30

Me. Nothing. Can't stand all those sharp edges and light wood. But then I never buy anything less than 70 years old. Dark wood antique furniture. Costs almost nowt, built to last forever. I think it looks beautiful too
