The other day DD asked me if the Queen shops at IKEA.
I'm sitting at and IKEA desk drinking from IKEA glasses. everything's bloody IKEA.
Is there anyone who has NO IKEA at all?
No I don't work for them!

Yep I'm in Scotland, don't drive, not near an Ikea.
I remember, growing up, my family used to drive to the Gateshead one as it was so exciting.
When I lived in Newcastle I used to get the bus there to buy little bits and bobs for dd's room.
Now I just don't have the first clue how to get there by public transport.
A lot of my home stuff is second hand/freebay/from supermarkets or budget stores like home bargains, and then I make lots of things like textiles.

We have an Ikea poang chair and foot stool that’s over 25 years old in the lounge but otherwise the lounge is an Ikea free zone. The kitchen is too but all the bedrooms are full of billy and malm and other Ikea delights.

PickAChew · 13/11/2017 23:25

I was about to offer up my bathroom but then remembered that I made the curtain at the window out of a bigger IKEA curtain.

Bufferingkisses · 13/11/2017 23:26

My ground floor is.

Upstairs we have wardrobes and drawers. All of which we kept when we moved into the house. They'd done 7 years of students. They've now done another 3 years with us and are all as good as new.

Like it or not I certainly can't fault it!

PickAChew · 13/11/2017 23:26

Bath mat, too!

haba · 13/11/2017 23:26

My husband and I have nothing from Ikea...as they won't deliver to Balmoral!
Though Kate has sometimes brought us those delicious ginger biscuits at Christmas time...

Redglitter · 13/11/2017 23:27

I pass an Ikea every day going to work but my house is completely Ikea free. I don't particularly like their stuff

PersianCatLady · 13/11/2017 23:27

I have never been to Ikea so my house is Ikea free.

haba · 13/11/2017 23:27

And we do have a Billy for books...but he's an equerry.

OhGodWhatTheHellNow · 13/11/2017 23:28

I'm Ikea free, but much of our furniture came with the house - think massive victorian lumps that I can't work out how they got them in never mind moving them...
Anyway, isn't Ikea where you're supposed to take your dc to run around and climb in all the cupboards? I'll get my coat...

Thanks Queenie, knew you'd make it on here!

to me , ikea is easy disposable furniture

And its great if you have kids or need to furnish a whole house quickly.

It takes effort to furnish exactly how you want it, rather than just how one store can do it.

Also, most of it, if it breaks or goes out of favour, its replaceable.

I don't like shopping so when we bought our house we spent three years dpoing everything EXACTLY how we want it and furnished as such.

I can now relax knowing other than refreshing colours its how we want it

IfyouseeRitaMoreno · 13/11/2017 23:32

Nearly everything in my house is IKEA, either new or through eBay.

I have 4 non Ikea pieces of furniture. All I need are some yellow areas on the floor and a bloke in my kitchen offering me meatballs Grin

caoraich · 13/11/2017 23:32

I love IKEA

And I have the slightly amusing benefit of being able to snootily say to people "all my furniture is inherited". Mainly because my parents were BIG fans when it first came to the UK in the 80s, remain big fans to this day and frequently upgrade, leaving me with the cast-offs Grin

My Billy and Malm have been with me through various cities, student flats and finally my first proper home of my own.

Between that, the twirly bamboo and the 40 mins free soft play, IKEA is my spiritual home.

Chrys2017 · 13/11/2017 23:34

Getting there... just have to get rid of a bedside table and a kitchen trolley (although actually I will always keep the latter as my mum bought and put it together for me). Oh, and towel rails, coat hooks, kitchen rails, glasses, garlic press, plant pots, picture frames, blankets, a pestle and mortar, storage jars, storage baskets, clothespins, coat hangers… er, I think that's it! Probably never will happen then!

ToothTrauma · 13/11/2017 23:36

I’ve got so much IKEA that I was in there recently and one of the ‘rooms’ was furnished exactly like my lounge Blush

grumpysquash3 · 13/11/2017 23:37

I imagine the TAAT from this will be 'Does anyone have a John Lewis free house?'
Because those that don't shop in IKEA must shop in JL!
[Actually I have both, it's a match made in heaven :)]

caoraich · 13/11/2017 23:37

Also, Queenie, they DO deliver to Balmoral - I know as I used to live down the road Grin

As a kid we used to get delivery from the Gateshead one, before there were any Scottish branches. £35 quid and if you drove down and did their pick and delivery you could go back in the lorry with the drivers. The height of excitement aged nine but probably not allowed now and you can order online anyway

I am almost certain that the main reason my parents visit me in Glasgow so frequently is because of being able to "just pop to IKEA"

SilverySurfer · 13/11/2017 23:37

Me and live quite happily without.

SleepingBooty · 13/11/2017 23:39

No, everything in our house is Ikea. Beds, sofa, dining table and all other furniture. Ì love the sleek lines and it's really good quality and good value.

Shakey15000 · 13/11/2017 23:39

Ye Gads no! My Expedit bookcases are a thing of beauty Wink

And we've promised to re-decorate DS's bedroom next year, warranting another visit. It's more for my own benefit, that much is known Smile

why12345 · 13/11/2017 23:39

Every room in my house has something from ikea in it. 😁

blanklook · 13/11/2017 23:39

I have never been to ikea and I don't have anything from ikea

Me too, not because I'm anti Ikea for any reason, if one was within easy travelling distance I'd go and look, but the closest one is too far away.

selfishcrab · 13/11/2017 23:41

No Ikea here as I don't really like the stuff, do go though occassionally as I love the meatballs and gravy :)

woolythoughts · 13/11/2017 23:42

And I don't have anything from JL either!
