The other day DD asked me if the Queen shops at IKEA.
I'm sitting at and IKEA desk drinking from IKEA glasses. everything's bloody IKEA.
Is there anyone who has NO IKEA at all?
No I don't work for them!

We have loads of ikea! The fact we have a child made it necessary for us because I’d rather pay £13 for a high chair you can put away if necessary (not happened yet) or use as a booster seat on a chair (happened a lot) rather than £££’s for one that was all books and crannies instead of wipe clean! Storage boxes for our garage are a must because the third floor means limited loft space. Finally I just like building stuff!

I have an Ikea free house but not through choice.

The only new pieces of furniture in our house are the two beds and the telly stand.

The rest are hand-me-downs from either my mil, my mum or dp's Nan (had to go into residential care so we got some of her nicer stuff).

It's all either from Argos (and falling apart at the seams) or is proper solid wood and basically indestructible.

We're replacing the falling apart pieces slowly but surely with furniture that won't disintegrate in a few years (some of it will probably end up from Ikea because we aren't exactly minted, but it's still more expensive than Argos/wilko) .

You know, chest of draws with proper joints instead of staples and plywood at the back type thing

I find the best time to go is Friday evening, I go after work and get there about 6.30. You can have your pick of the parking spaces, the cafe is nice and quiet, you can actually browse rather than getting swept along in a huge crowd following the arrows and there are no queues at the checkout.

I live about a mile away from an IKEA and I go about twice a year. Generally early on a weekday. Ours gets full of pensioners going out for lunch.

Apart from a Malm chest of drawers, all the other bits & bobs are from the textiles or kitchen department. Last time I went I spent £15.

Does it count if there's no IKEA anywhere near where I live and I've not found an online supplier for my country? If so, then yes, I'm IKEA free.

@speakout I can walk to the store. Just had a bad experience when pregnant. also it is too tricky to negotiate with autistic children. and too far to walk round with hypermobile hips.

we had furniture made that fit the dimensions of the room. (forever furniture) and is robust for aforementioned autistic child.

or I get cheap stuff from aldi or asda as the parking is free there.

Our last house was IKEA free. Only because there wasn't an IKEA anywhere near us. One opened close by last summer and we are fans!

English stores are open at 10 on Sundays for 'breakfast and browsing' and open properly at 11.

Have developed a passionate dislike of our Billy bookcase and the hemnes chest of drawer bottoms are falling out. I’m slowly replacing everything Ikea in our house

Me too with Hemnes. The drawer bottoms aren't big enough - only by about a millimetre, but enough so that after a couple of years they start to fall out. grrrr

If you had enough DIY skills to put a Hemnes together, you'll certainly be able to fix a loose drawer bottom.

Whether you should have to is a different matter.

See my post ^^.

I’ve never even been to IKEA, never mind buy anything from them

My nearest one is in Edinburgh, and as I don’t drive I have never been

I mean I have been to Edinburgh (my happy place) but never had any desire to visit IKEA

I was going to say we're Ikea free but DS says the bookcases I bought second hand are Ikea...

The Hemnes drawer bottoms have already been fixed twice. Looking pretty terminal this time.

Our house has absolutely nothing from IKEA. We simply don't live close enough to one, otherwise it would be another story!

Witchcraft. I can’t imagine it as I sit on my IKEA sofa looking at my living room which could be straight from an IKEA catalogue. It’s not all IKEA, but mainly.

I spare bedroom is Ikea-free and I thought our bedroom was Ikea-free too, but then I remembered the mattress topper (which is crap because it slides across and down the mattress, leading me to fall out of bed on more than one occasion).

The only piece of Ikea furniture we have is a tub chair in the living room. We only have that because it was dumped outside the office where I used to work, no-one wanted it, so I brought it home. The dog loves it, she just fits in and enjoys curling up in it.

We've got some kitchenware, one set of towels and one set of bedlinen, but not loads.

Our house is a funny old mix, junk shop finds, a dining table made by a friend, dining chairs rescued from a skip, sofas from Sofa Workshop and actually bought new, inherited pieces. It's a mess, tbh, but we like it.
