The other day DD asked me if the Queen shops at IKEA.
I'm sitting at and IKEA desk drinking from IKEA glasses. everything's bloody IKEA.
Is there anyone who has NO IKEA at all?
No I don't work for them!

Ooh I love big German square feather pillows. I need some!

I'll do you a swap for some British ones that fit our pillowcases Grin

fartyghost · 14/11/2017 12:37

Yes. There is nothing from IKEA in this house at all :-)

I do have a resident Swede though.

BluePheasant · 14/11/2017 12:39

We were IKEA free until DD was about 3 and I couldn’t find anything better than the Trofast range for toy storage and all the endless bits and bobs. It’s perfect! Oh and she has the easel too, bargain compared to others I’d seen.

I suspect we’d have more bits if we lived close enough to a shop!

Sallystyle · 14/11/2017 12:39

I have nothing.

I have never been to IKEA. That will change on the 4th Dec. I'm going away for the evening with a friend and she wants to IKEA after. I won't have money to buy anything though!

OracleofDelphi · 14/11/2017 12:42

I have been to Ikea many times, but now dont have anything in my house. I like older furniture, and reusing stuff.... when I was a student I had a book case, small table and a shoe rack ..... I too cannot abide light coloured wood, so no nothing from Ikea here.

TammySwansonTwo · 14/11/2017 12:46

Ikea isn't full of light coloured wood though!

We've just bought our first house and while I would love to fill it with unique vintage pieces they'd only get ruined with twin toddlers! Will replace things as I can afford to.

My favourite things are my teal trolleys - three baskets on castors, so useful for so many things!

MyWhatICallNameChange · 14/11/2017 12:49

I have no furniture as I don't have a car and can't afford to order anything right now, but I do have some candles and a lamp.

Most of my crap furniture is from Argos.

ilovekitkats · 14/11/2017 12:49

I’ve never been to Ikea so don’t own anything from them, nor do I intend to when they build one near us next year.

BarbaraofSevillle · 14/11/2017 12:50

It's not all white veneered like a PP upthread suggested.

Lovelylovelyladies · 14/11/2017 12:51

Sorry, I thought this was a joke! I don't own a single thing from Ikea. Never stepped foot in one.
So to answer your question Yes. A completely Ikea free house here.

RaininSummer · 14/11/2017 12:51

I have never even been to IKEA let alone have stuff in my house.

LePimpernelScarlette · 14/11/2017 12:53

We have a desk in my son's room that is IKEA, everything else I have inherited or bought elsewhere. I like old furniture so have bought some fab pieces for next to nothing and the quality is amazing!

GlowWine · 14/11/2017 12:56

Sorry plenty of IKEA stuff here too. But I wanted to pick up on the 'disposable' comment. I have ikea furniture here that dates back to the very early 80s (Germany) and still going strong. Our living room storage goes back to the early 90s, and has survived several house moves. Though I agree too that some stuff does wear out, you still get what you pay for.

PrimalLass · 14/11/2017 12:57

They only serve Swedish meatballs in the café and are really pleased with themselves about it.

They don't. I had piri piri chicken on Saturday.

burntup · 14/11/2017 12:58

No furniture other than some kallax units. Can't wait to get rid to be honest. Lots of plastic cups etc. though.

Twinkletowedelephant · 14/11/2017 12:59

Don't own anything from IKEA....not from lack of trying it's quite gmdar and don't think the kids would see it as a fun day out

jellyshoeswithdiamonds · 14/11/2017 13:35

We went when one first opened (not very near to us) in Cardiff, my dd was a baby I carried her around. Hated the layout, furniture looked nice but not that solid. Bought some clear plastic bowls.

Dd is now 18 yo, bowls have gone. The house is Ikea free.

When dd wanted her room decorated 2 years ago she dragged me to Ikea, I hated the layout, disliked the furniture. Came away empty handed.

Just don’t see the attraction of the place.

Theresamayscough · 14/11/2017 13:38

GOd God no total tat. Much prefer furniture I don’t need to put together. Horrible cheap stuff.

Queeniebed · 14/11/2017 14:22

My father despises it. I on the other hand love the storage and other bits and bobs. DH has just joined Family IKEA. I would never buy the beds or sofas. I find them small and uncomfortable

PickAChew · 14/11/2017 14:23

We have an eclectic mix in our house, too, of IKEA, second hand (one thing is second hand IKEA because it was in much better condition than our old one that had seen many years of serious assault but had been discontinued) and more "grown up" furniture.

DS1 will have his own room, when we move. Storage is the weak point of the house so he will have a bank of pax wardrobes. We're also after a bed with drawers and the best one we've seen in a style we all like is about £200 from IKEA. John Lewis have a similar one for over twice the price but I checked it out in-store and it's not nearly as well made as the IKEA one.

DH is intending to treat himself to an old writing bureau for our grown up sitting room/study, which will be an IKEA free zone. We'll also be checking out the furniture auctions for our own bedroom, too as we want dark wood and it's rather unfashionable, right now. DS1 will get our 14 year old and still sound drawers.

Ansumpasty · 14/11/2017 14:24

I don't even have an IKEA free body; their meatballs are one of the main reasons I go Grin

PickAChew · 14/11/2017 14:25

14 year old IKEA drawers, that is.

BoredOnMatLeave · 14/11/2017 14:28

I'm fairly sure we have nothing Ikea, however there is a cushion on the sofa I'm not 100% sure on.

Not that I hate it or anything I just can't deal with walking all around then queuing for an hour to pay. We also don't have any flat pack furniture as I'm not sure our relationship would survive the assembly.

kaytee87 · 14/11/2017 14:31

I might have some ikea glasses or cutlery but I don’t buy their furniture. Don’t like it at all.

kaytee87 · 14/11/2017 14:34

Oh I lie I have a couple of lamps from there
