The other day DD asked me if the Queen shops at IKEA.
I'm sitting at and IKEA desk drinking from IKEA glasses. everything's bloody IKEA.
Is there anyone who has NO IKEA at all?
No I don't work for them!

Nope I'm not driving a 4hour round trip just to buy flat pack stuff, rather save the fuel and get something decent

Socksey · 14/11/2017 20:35

No Ikea here.... house furnished straight from EBay .... total furniture paid about £150 For 3 bed terrace

BlessYourCottonSocks · 14/11/2017 20:53

Thank you Nacho! That sounds about right. And too ruddy far to traipse to a shop Smile

Maelstrop · 14/11/2017 22:12

I think I went round one time about 10 years ago and might have bought tea lights. I'm not into having identical furniture to the neighbours. I have stuff from Camden market and Portobello Road, not posh or snobby just stuff that attracted me and was different. I had to move from a flat to a house to fit some stuff!

Sparrowlegs248 · 14/11/2017 22:13

Ive never been to ikea. 100% ikea free house

angelawilliams · 15/11/2017 00:11

I swear by IKEA and don't understand why people wouldn't use it! It's so practical, cheap and the stuff looks great too. I wouldn't want to have an IKEA free house!

Twoo · 15/11/2017 04:31

No IKEA in my home. In fact, I've never been in an IKEA store.

I'm a complete IKEA virgin .... Think I might go pop my Cherry this weekend Grin

CatchingBabies · 15/11/2017 04:58

I also don't have an Ikea free room, even the tiny toilet has an Ikea candle in it. My embarrassing moment was taking DD to Ikea with me where she recognised her bedroom in one of the model rooms they have set up. It's round the corner from me so that's my excuse!

chestylarue52 · 15/11/2017 06:03

I hate going to Ikea, not a snobbery thing, I just really hate the experience

I don't have any unless some of my second hand stuff is from there

speakout · 15/11/2017 06:10

It's not just the furniture Maelstrop- it's all the other stuff that' is so good from Ikea.

I have very little Ikea firniture, the odd bedside table and DDs bed, but Ikea is great for stuff like laundry baskets, cutlery, plates, rugs, frames, shower curtains, lampshades ( their lighting section is great)
kitchen ware, pots, kids wooden toys.
The range is so big and changes constantly that I wouldn't recognise an Ikea lamp for instance in my neighbours room.

Oh and the breakfasts, coffee and hot chocolate are amazing.

BarbaraofSevillle · 15/11/2017 06:12

Twoo Don't go at the weekend if you can help it. It will be, erm, quite busy, especially if it is on or near a retail park and it being near Christmas and all that.

Much more civilised during the week, no stress or queining involved. although I realise that if more people start going at quiet times they'll stop being quiet, so crack on with saving all your Ikea shopping for the busiest time of the week.

Toddlerteaplease · 15/11/2017 06:15

My house was all Ikea. But I’ve now got a new sofa, bed and sideboard from other places. My friend told me it was time for grown up furniture! Hmm

Greenglassteacup · 15/11/2017 06:18

We only have one IKEA wheels book trolley and 4 flamingo drinks glasses.

speakout · 15/11/2017 06:20

Sunday morning is a great time to go. OH and I go for breakfast at 9am while the kids are still asleep.
Hot cooked breakfast and unlimited coffee for 2 for a fiver.
There is usually a small queue outside Ikea doors on a Sunday morning from 8.50am.

yomellamoHelly · 15/11/2017 06:22

We have it everywhere. A lot of it looks quite tatty tbh but it's always fantastically practical functional. First bought their stuff when I lived in various unfurnished places in Germany around '91 and was delighted when it came to the UK. Each time we've moved house (and lately after we'd done some building work) it's been a cheap way to furnish the place.

PickAChew · 15/11/2017 06:29

Sunday morning at the Gateshead store is bonkers. Massive car park and you're lucky if you can find a space after 11am.

The queues are much better now they have some self service tills, though.

GrumpyOldMare · 15/11/2017 06:40

No Ikea in my house. Never been to one.

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 15/11/2017 06:54

Nothing In house from ikea

speakout · 15/11/2017 06:57

For those that don't use IKEA, is that because of distance or you don't like the shop or stuff?

BarbaraofSevillle · 15/11/2017 06:59

Well that queue would have to be patient, and well wrapped up at this time of year, speakout as they don't open until 11 am on a Sunday in England.

Although they will let you in some time before that for 'browsing' but they don't allow access to all of the store and obviously you can't pay for anything, so people just end up waiting at the check out anyway.

I always forget about browsing time and think I can get away with the first hour being not too busy, but oh no, as PickAChew says, it's rammed by 11 am.

speakout · 15/11/2017 07:02

BarbaraofSevillle Oh I forgot that England still has restrictive Sunday trading laws.

I'm in Scotland. We often do an ASDA shop on a Sunday at 8am, hit IKEA for 9, quick purchase of what we need and home by 10am.

BarbaraofSevillle · 15/11/2017 07:09

That's the only way to do it, but unfortunately not an option in England. Works OK on Saturday though - first hour usually bearable, hell on earth after that. Otherwise, in most cases, I would rather do without and go another time.

BlackeyedSusan · 15/11/2017 07:20

ikea free here too.

MrsPringles · 15/11/2017 07:23

I am another one in the ‘ikea in every room camp’

It looks like our house is sponsored by them

speakout · 15/11/2017 07:24

BlackeyedSusan is that because you don't like IKEA ? Or no store near you?
